Less than a year ago, Burress carried a unregistered gun into a night club and shot himself accidentally in the thigh. This in itself is stupid and careless. Today, Burress accepts the plea agreement of two years in prison for carrying a unregistered handgun. Don't get me wrong, he broke the law and he deserves to be punished. However it seems like a lot of time for carrying a unregistered weapon. I understand they want to get guns off the streets in New York City but still feels a little excessive.
As for a possible career after this sentence, he might have one. He could get out in 20 months and could be eligible to return by the 2011 season. However it might be just a minor role on a team. I doubt he will achieve his star status he once had. Not many receivers stay a star in their mid 30's. He could be a starter again but his best days are behind him.
