Looks like it will be a tight Stanley Cup Finals.
After the Blackhawks took game one in triple overtime, the Bruins comeback and get an overtime win themselves... though this one just in the 1st and only overtime. With the game tied at 1-1 and with it almost 14 minutes into the OT, the Blackhawks failed to clear the puck out of their zone and the Bruins made them pay. With assists from Tyler Seguin and Adam McQuaid, Daniel Paille scored the game winning goal past Chicago goalkeeper Corey Crawford for the game winner. Final was 2-1 Bruins.
A huge win for the Bruins evening the series at 1-1 as they go to Boston. This tired Bruins squad managed to overwhelm the Blackhawks in the overtime in game two and come away with the victory.
What is very impressive so far in this series is both goaltenders. Boston's Tuukka Rask and Chicago's Corey Crawford have been remarkable to watch, just great goal tending displays from both of them so far. It might be more about good defense than good goal tending in this series because both of these goaltenders are playing their best.

Blackhawks Win in Double OT; Advance to Stanley Cup Finals
There will be no repeat Stanley Cup Champions.
The Chicago Blackhawks managed to survive a double overtime game against the Los Angeles Kings to win it 4-3 and advance to the Stanley Cup Finals. It was Patrick Kane scoring the series clincher in the 2nd overtime thanks to a two on one counter attack lead by Jonathan Toews. It was Kane's third goal of the night.
Chicago takes the series 4-1 and eliminate the Kings.
Now it's on to the Stanley Cup Finals to face the Boston Bruins in an Original Six finals, first since 1979. It's a great match up between two teams who have been counted out of the postseason at one time or another. Chicago was down 3-1 in the series with the Red Wings in the conference semis to come back and win the series 4-3. And Boston was down by three goals in the third period of game 7 between them and Maple Leafs back in the Conference quarters.
Whatever might happen in the Stanley Cup Finals, don't count out either side.

Keep an 'Eye Out' for Visors in the NHL
The other night, Marc Staal of the New York Rangers was hit right in the eye with a puck during Tuesday night's game vs. the Philadelphia Flyers. It was redirected off a shot and hit him right in the eye.
While it seems like the 26 year old defenseman will make a full recovery, he's out indefinitely and the incident has reignited the debate of whether or not to make visors mandatory in the NHL. They are right now optional for the players but the league would like to see them as mandatory. The NHL Deputy commissioner Bill Daly told ESPNNewYork.com "We have consistently been in favor of a rule mandating visors. The PA has historically been in favor of maintaining 'Player choice,' coupled with continued education and sensitization."
Hockey is a dangerous sport what with all the hits, puck shots and deflections, and the fights that we all scream for night after night. So a simple thing like adding visors to helmets seems like a no brainer. I would even go a step further and either get full visor masks or face masks like in football.
Maybe players are afraid that they'll break and cause facial damage. Maybe some can't see through them. Or maybe they wouldn't be able to fight properly what with some visor in the way... it's agreed; the visors remain optional. Hell, get rid of them all together. AND I AM NOT ENTERTAINED!!!
P.S. I only need two more blog titles like that to complete my "Inappropriate Comedian" card. After that, I get a footlong sub.

Blackhawks Win Marks Best Season Start Ever
The Chicago Blackhawks made history on Friday night and the San Jose Sharks helped them out. In a game in Chicago, the Hawks would hold on to a 2-1 victory over the visiting Sharks to mark the best regular season start for an NHL team ever. With the win, the Blackhawks have started the 2013 season recording a point in each of their first 17 games. The old record was 16 games done by the 06-07 Ducks. Of course this means with their record of 14-0-3, the Blackhawks haven't lost a game in regulation this season.
Certainly a fine bit of history for Chicago but could this be a bad sign? Usually you want to be near the end of the season or just entering the postseason when you get on this kind of streak. Now the Blackhawks might be the best team in the league and maybe talent will be enough for them. But this streak may mean nothing to them if they do not make a deep playoff run off of it. They still remember being bounced in the first round of the postseason last year and they certainly don't want an early exit this time around.
P.S. As for the Sharks, they got swept in the season series vs. Chicago. No reason to watch San Jose play until they face Aniheim again. I like the Ducks.

NHL Lockout Coming to an End
It looks like there will be hockey this season. That's a good thing considering when this story broke most people replied "Something happened to Hockey?"
Both the league and the players reached a tentative agreement that was announced early Sunday morning. The proposed collective bargaining agreement is a 10 year deal with a mutual opt out clause after 8 years. Details of the CBA included a focus around revenue sharing as well as contract term limits and contract salary variances from year to year. It is not etched in stone but the proposed dates for the 2012/13 season to begin are either January 15th with a 50 game season or January 19th with a 48 game season.
While it would've been best for the league not to miss a single game, it's still a good sign that they were able to get a deal done and return for a shorter season than none at all back in the 2004/05 lockout. The labor disputes in the NHL are gone for now but this round of bargaining shows that Hockey still has the shakiest labor deals among the four big team sports in North America.
The NHL is now going to go through a condensed season like the NBA did last year which should make things very exciting down stretch.

Still So Much to See with the World Ending
As the end of the world is nigh, there is so much that I wish I could've seen in the sports world before our time was up. Here are the top ten things I was still waiting to see before the apocalypse came.
10. The NHL to come back. Be nice for Hockey to at least make the list.
9. The Sharks win the Stanley C… HA HA HA HA YEAH RIGHT!!!!
8. Mayweather v. Pacquiao. We wanted it for years but the promoters were always just too much of a tease like Justin Bieber (he's gay, get over him).

Well it's been a good life anyway having seen the SF Giants and the Red Sox each win a pair of titles, see Chelsea win the Champions Cup, and to see Mark Sanchez get Butt Slapped in the face by his own lineman. Or was it a "Tight End"?

Fame. It doesn’t look good for any of the potential candidates from the steroid
era but I’m sure most of them were just happy not to go to jail.
5. The other woman finally step forward and identify Ben Roethlisberger
as her rapist. That and say Kobe joined in. See you a**holes in hell.
4. See the Cubs win the World Series. This is really the only significant thing in baseball that I would like to see happen. Them not winning in over a 100 years is the true disaster here.
3. Derek Jeter retiring from baseball. This I would've LOVE to see happen. I was going to throw a
great party with chips, dip, and a roast of Jeter. No, an actual roasting of
Jeter. He would’ve tasted so good in pinstripes.
2. 49ers win super bowl. While I was actually alive for three of
the 49ers super bowl victories, I was too young to appreciate or even be aware
of any of them. I’ve just been around for the heartache really.
1.The US get to the Semis of the World Cup. This one is more
of a dream than anything else. To win it would be the Impossible Dream.
