Bad titles are all I have, okay.
Sports Illustrated has a report that will be released on Monday that links Ray Lewis to a Performance Enhancing Drug. Mitch Ross who is Co-owner of the Sports with Alternatives to Steroids (SWATS) says he spoke with Lewis after his triceps tear back in October. Lewis had requested several products to speed up the healing process with Deer-antler spray being the funniest one they had. However, the Spray actually contains a banned substance called IGF-1 which is on the NFL list of banned substances. Ray Lewis addressed these accusations during Media Day of all times and denied using PED's.
Who you rooting for now America? (Forget Randy Moss claiming to be the best WR ever). While Ray Lewis will play in the Super Bowl, this story now possibly becomes a distraction for the team, especially considering that Ray is the heart and soul of that locker room. I think the Ravens are better than that but it's still a possibility.
To all you people out there that say "we don't care about PED's in football as much as baseball," are you Colts fans? Broncos fans? Patriots fans? Because guess what: Ray Lewis lead his team to victory in against all three of those teams in the playoffs and was the lead tackler in each contest. Not to mention the morale boost he gives the defense from simply being on the field also has to be taken into consideration. Still don't care about PED's in football?
P.S. Yes, I'm a 49ers fan and there is a bias but I'm not the one releasing the report on Ray.

49ers and Ravens Advance to First Ever Har-Bowl
There is one family in America that is ecstatic and that is the Harbaugh's.
In the NFC Championship game, the San Francisco 49ers lead by Jim Harbaugh, went into Atlanta to face the Falcons. After being down 17-0, the 49ers fought a great 2nd half and managed to grab the lead with a Frank Gore touchdown run in the 4th quarter. It was their first lead of the game. Atlanta tried to take back control of the game but after a failed 4th and 4 conversion attempt, the Falcons were all but done. The 49ers with Colin Kaepernick at the helm (not Alex Smith) managed to win the game 28-24 and advance to thier first Super Bowl since 1994.
As for the AFC Championship game, the Baltimore Ravens lead by John Harbaugh, Jim's older brother, went into New England and managed to keep Ray Lewis' career alive for one more final game. After being down 13-7 at the half, the Ravens defense clamped down while Joe Flacco and the offense took off. Flacco threw 3 touchdowns in the 2nd half with the last two going to Anquan Boldin. The Pats, meanwhile, couldn't put up any 2nd half points and managed one touchdown all game long. In their 2nd straight AFC Championship game vs New England, the Ravens overcome the Patriots 28-13 and go on to their first Super Bowl since 2000.
Super Bowl XLVII is set with the Baltimore Ravens vs. the San Francisco 49ers in New Orleans. This marks the first Super Bowl in which the opposing head coaches are brothers. Definitely adds a bit to the term "Sibling Rivalry."

Texans and Packers Winners Saturday
The NFL playoffs started today with two games in the Wild Card round.
The first one featured a rematch from last year's Wild Card round with the Bengals once again making a trip to Houston to take on the Texans. Houston managed to win last year's game and pulled off the same result today. It was a low scoring game throughout and the Bengals offense didn't do much failing to convert all 9 of their 3rd down attempts, only getting 12 first downs compared to Houston's 24, and only having 198 total yards compared to Houston's 420. The Bengals' only TD came off a Leon Hall interception in the 2nd quarter. Cincy's defense might've kept them in the game until the end but their offense didn't have the spark. Houston wins 19-13.
The 2nd game was less exciting despite the match up. After beating the Packers in Minnesota just to get into the postseason, the Vikings now traveled to Green Bay to face the cheeseheads for a 2nd week in a row. This time, however, they had to do it without Christian Ponder at QB. Joe Webb came in off the bench to play having not thrown the ball once this season. On top of that, the Green Bay defense played Adrian Peterson much better allowing him to get just 99 rushing yards on 22 carries. That combined with Joe Webb equaled a Packers win 24-10.
Both home teams win and know who they will face in the next round. The Texans will travel to New England to face the Patriots while the Packers go to the Bay Area to play the 49ers. Both the Texans and the Packers played their upcoming opponents during the regular season. The Pats beat the Texans in week 14 while the 49ers beat the Packers in week 1.

Redskins Win NFC East, Vikes Squeeze Into Postseason, Broncos and Pats Get Byes and More
The last week in the NFL was huge as it featured quite a few good games with playoff implications.
The biggest perhaps was the Cowboys vs. the Redskins with the NFC East title on the line and the loser not getting into the postseason. Both sides started out slow and it was tied at 7 heading into the locker room. The 2nd half had more of the Washington's ground game wearing down the Dallas defense. Rookie Alfred Morris managed to run an even 200 yards against the Cowboys and managed 3 rushing TDs. RG3, meanwhile, only had 100 passing yards going 9/18 with 63 rushing yards and a rushing TD.
Dallas fell behind by 11 and managed to cut the lead by 3 with just under 6 minutes left. Tony Romo, however, made a season ending mistake throwing his third interception of the game with this one being picked off by London Fletcher on a dump pass to DeMarco Murray. The Redskins managed to kill the clock down to 1:09 left in regulation and scored the nail-in-the-coffin TD with Morris' third score. Redskins win the NFC East 28-18. Dallas misses the playoffs for a third straight season while Washington gets in with a rookie QB and running back leading the way.
There was also a big game earlier that day involving the Packers and the Vikings. Green Bay was fighting for the #2 seed in the NFC while Minnesota was fighting to just get into the postseason. The Packers knew that Adrian Peterson of the Vikings was going to run on them and they still couldn't stop him. Peterson ran for 199 yards including a 26 yard run to get the Vikings a chip shot field goal for Blair Walsh to win the game 37-34. Peterson, however, still finishes 9 yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson single season rushing record. Vikings get into the playoffs as a wild card while the Packers lose the #2 seed with this loss and the 49ers beating the Cardinals 27-13 claiming the bye week for themselves.
Some craziness in the top seeding of the AFC. In an emotional game in which Chuck Pagano made his return to the Colts, Indianapolis beats Houston 28-16. The Broncos and the Patriots both capitalized on the Texans loss winning their respective games. Denver blows out Kansas City 38-3 while New England shuts out Miami 28-0. Broncos get the #1 seed and home field advantage while the Pats grab the #2 seed. Texans are stuck playing in the wild card round of the playoffs as they finished the last 4 games of the season 1-3 after starting 11-1.
As for noteworthy news, the Giants blow out the Eagles 42-7 but are eliminated from playoff contention. Looks like a 9-7 record didn't cut it this year for the G-Men. The Bears win their game 26-24 over the Lions but with the Vikings win they fall just short of the playoffs. Minnesota and Chicago have the same record of 10-6 but the advantage goes to the Vikes who had a better divisional record of 4-2. Last one I'll mention is that the Seahawks beat the Rams 20-13. Not really a significant win with the 49ers claiming the NFC West but Seattle finishes the season undefeated at home with a 8-0 record at CenturyLink Field. Thank goodness nobody has to play them there in the postseason.
A great 2012 regular season ends with a lot of excitement and noticeably 3 rookie quarterbacks leading their teams into the playoffs. Two of them will actually meet in the wild card round of the postseason with the Seahawks traveling to Washington to play the Redskins. It's going to be a good postseason.

Steelers Out, Cowboys and G-Men Lose, Packers in Line for a #2 Seed and More
Week 16 was a big week in the NFL for the playoff picture and some playoff hopefuls. The Steelers, however, have gone down to playoff "Nopefuls."
The Cincinnati Bengals have lost their last 5 games against the Pittsburgh Steelers but could make up for all of that by clinching a playoff spot at Heinz Field. It was a close game throughout being tied up at 10-10. The Steelers had the ball with 44 seconds left in the game and were trying to get within field goal range for their kicker. Ben Roethlisberger then made a mistake and threw an interception to Safety Reggie Nelson of the Bengals on a pass intended for WR Mike Wallace. After a 21 yard pass from Andy Dalton to AJ Green, the Bengals kicker Josh Brown hit a 37 yard field goal to win the game with 4 seconds left. Bengals win 13-10 clinching a playoff spot while also eliminating the Steelers from the postseason picture.
Meanwhile, there were a lot of big games involving the NFC East teams. First, the Redskins were able to hold off the Eagles to win it 27-20. Robert Griffin III made his return after a week off due to injury and went 16/24 for 198 passing yards, 2 TD passes, and one INT. Meanwhile, the Cowboys fought back from14 down against the Saints and managed to tie the game forcing OT. However, the Saints got the ball after the Cowboys initial possession and managed to hit the game winning FG after a fumble by Marques Colston went their way and the ball was recovered by Saints TE Jimmy Graham at the Dallas 2. Garrett Hartley hit the 20 yard chip shot to win it for the Saints 34-31. As for the G-Men, they get manhandled for a 2nd week in row (though not shutout) with this loss coming at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens 33-14. The Ravens had 25 first downs in this game compared to the G-Men's 11 and had the ball for nearly 40 minutes.
As for other games in the NFL, the Packers destroyed the Jaguars 55-7 as Aaron Rodgers threw 3 TD passes in this game. That win combined with the 49ers loss gives Green Bay control of the #2 seed in the NFC heading into the last week of the season. Andrew Luck and the Colts clinched a playoff spot with a win over the Chiefs 20-13. The Colts get back into the playoffs after the horrible season last year. Last I'll mention that the Patriots and the Broncos win their respective games while the Texans fall to the Vikings 23-6. Houston still has control of the #1 seed in the AFC with the tie breaker over Denver while the Broncos have a 1 game lead over the Pats for the #2 seed.
One more week means some great games to finish the season. The biggest one might be the Redskins and the Cowboys taking over Sunday Night with the NFC East title on the line.

Thanksgiving Football: Blowouts and an OT
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving day. If not, three football games hopefully took your mind off that fact.
The first one ended up being a close finish. The Texans and the Lions played a back and forth game and then some. Every time that the Lions got in front, the Texans came back. Houston didn't grab the lead until the overtime winning field goal that gave them the win 34-31. Both teams had over 1000 yards of combined offense in this game but it's the Texans that get the win and possibly end the postseason chase for the Lions.
The next game featured the traditional Cowboys and Indians match up but this time with Robert Griffin III. The Redskins came to Dallas to play the Cowboys in their traditional home Thanksgiving game and from the start RG3 owned this game. RG3 threw for 311 passing yards for 4 TDs and one INT. The Redskins went up 28-3 by halftime. The Cowboys didn't go away and tried to come back but they ended up losing to the Redskins 38-31 anyway. Tony Romo threw the ball 62 times in this one for 441 yards and 3 TDs but he also threw 2 INTs. This was also Romo's first loss as Cowboys QB on Thanksgiving.
The last "game" of the day was the Patriots coming into New Jersey and putting the Jets to bed and not with Turkey. A crazy 2nd quarter which involved 3 Tom Brady TD throws and a couple of fumbles returned for TDs gave the Pats 35 points in the quarter alone. The Jets ended up turning the ball over 5 times with 4 of those by fumbles. The Pats destroy the Jets 49-19 and dash any remaining chance for a postseason for NYJ.
I am thankful that yesterday featured a great day of football for us all to enjoy. Hope it wasn't all you did though. Now I got to go. I got leftover Pumpkin Pie for breakfast.

Falcons Still Undefeated, Texans Are Not, Pats Upset by Another NFC West Team and More
Week 6 was a wake up call for a few teams.
One of those teams was the Houston Texans. The Packers came to Houston to take on the Texans and told them and the rest of the league that they can still destroy another team. Aaron Rodgers unloaded on the Texans with 6 TD passes and 338 passing yards. Rodgers and the Packers jumped to an early lead and never let the Texans catch up. Matt Schaub did poorly throwing 2 picks and no TDs. The Texans just didn't play up to par before their fans or the country. Packers win 42-24. Texans are now 5-1 and no longer undefeated.
There is only one undefeated team left in the NFL and even they had a scare in week 6. The Atlanta Falcons hosted the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders should be an easy opponent to get by but they made it a bit difficult. Matt Ryan got picked off three times in this game and threw one TD in this game to Roddy White in the 2nd quarter. Meanwhile, the Raiders had 474 total yards on offense while the Falcons only had 286. The Falcons still were able to win it in the end with the Falcons making a quick drive down the field to score a 55 yard FG by Matt Bryant with one second remaining. Falcons win barely 23-20 and stay undefeated.
The rest of the NFL had some interesting games. The Patriots got upset again by another NFC West Team as the Seahawks win it 24-23 with a late 46 yard TD pass from Russell Wilson to Sidney Rice being the decider. Seahawks are now 4-2 and tied with the 49ers and the Cardinals in NFC West. The Cowboys lose to the Ravens 31-29 as Dan Bailey misses a 52 yarder to win it for Dallas. The Cowboys might've been able to get one more play off before kicking a FG but they all had to hustle to find out. The Lions beat the Eagles in OT 26-23 with Jason Hanson making the 45 yard FG to win it. Michael Vick threw two interceptions as the Eagles are lost. Last game I'll mention involves the Jets beating the Colts 35-9. Shonn Greene ran for 161 yards and 3 TDs on the ground just carrying the Jets to a win and stopping the Tebow talk for now.
Thank goodness this day is over. Week 6 ends tonight with the Broncos taking on the Chargers on Monday Night.

Meanwhile, the Raiders had 474 total yards on offense while the Falcons only had 286. The Falcons still were able to win it in the end with the Falcons making a quick drive down the field to score a 55 yard FG by Matt Bryant with one second remaining. Falcons win barely 23-20 and stay undefeated.
The rest of the NFL had some interesting games. The Patriots got upset again by another NFC West Team as the Seahawks win it 24-23 with a late 46 yard TD pass from Russell Wilson to Sidney Rice being the decider. Seahawks are now 4-2 and tied with the 49ers and the Cardinals in NFC West. The Cowboys lose to the Ravens 31-29 as Dan Bailey misses a 52 yarder to win it for Dallas. The Cowboys might've been able to get one more play off before kicking a FG but they all had to hustle to find out. The Lions beat the Eagles in OT 26-23 with Jason Hanson making the 45 yard FG to win it. Michael Vick threw two interceptions as the Eagles are lost. Last game I'll mention involves the Jets beating the Colts 35-9. Shonn Greene ran for 161 yards and 3 TDs on the ground just carrying the Jets to a win and stopping the Tebow talk for now.
Thank goodness this day is over. Week 6 ends tonight with the Broncos taking on the Chargers on Monday Night.

Saints Finally Win a Game, Pats Beats Broncos, Bad Luck for Packers and More
Week 5 is here no thanks to that boring display on Thursday night. Made it easier to change over to Big Bang Theory. (I'M ON THE WEST COAST, OKAY!!!)
The Saints have struggled to find a win this year most likely because of the year long suspension of their head coach, Sean Peyton. The one week, however, he's allowed to come and watch the team play, they win the game. The Chargers came into town to face the Saints on the Sunday Night Football stage. Drew Brees had another monster game with 4 TD passes and 370 passing yards with only one pick. With that first TD pass to Devery Henderson for 40 yards in the 1st quarter, Brees passed Johnny Unitas for consecutive games with a TD pass. Brees has sole possession of the record at 48. Big picture, the Saints are able to hold off the Chargers late in the game and get their first win of the year 31-24.
Another good match up was earlier in the day featuring another chapter of Brady v. Manning with Peyton Manning now on the Denver Broncos. Manning had a huge day with 345 passing yards along with 3 TD passes. Meanwhile, Tom Brady's numbers had lesser numbers with 223 passing yards and 1 TD pass. The Patriots still win the game, though, 31-21. (What?) They have a running game now (Oh). Steven Ridley had 151 yards on the ground with a TD run. 3 Rushing TD's on the day for the Pats and 251 yards on the ground.
The rest of the days games interest me less (excluding the 49ers of course). Andrew Luck and the Colts come back from a 21-3 half time deficit to the Packers and win it 30-27. Luck was 31/55 with 362 passing yards, 2 TD passes, and one INT. Game ball went to Chuck Pagano. Get well soon. The Steelers managed to squeak by the Eagles, 16-14. Shaun Suisham hit the game winning 34 yd FG as time expired. No picks for Vick but he fumbled it to the other team twice. Cam Newton and the Panthers fall to another team, this time being the Seahawks, 16-12. Can we start questioning just how good Cam Newton is already? Where's the fine Goodell?

Emotional Win for Torrey Smith and the Ravens
The Sunday Night Game between the Patriots and the Ravens was intense and not just because of the players arguing half the time on the field while the refs did nothing.
Torrey Smith, a WR for the Ravens, lost his 19 year old brother Tevin Jones who died in a motorcycle accident not 24 hours before kickoff. Torrey Smith made the decision to play the game at around 4 PM despite what had happened. A moment of silence was observed for Smith's brother before the game started.
Torrey Smith and the Ravens then went out and played a rough and tough football game against the Pats. New England would take an early lead but the Ravens fought back and by the third quarter, it had become a back and forth game. Torrey Smith rose above it all to play a career game catching 6 balls for 127 yards and 2 TDs. He played sensationally for his teammates and his brother.
The Ravens would then drive down field one last time and set themselves up for a 27 yard FG to win it as time expired. The FG by Justin Tucker was ruled good despite it going directly over the right crossbar. Bill Belichick would protest but the refs wouldn't listen. Ravens win an emotional game 31-30.
The game was exciting to watch whether you were a Ravens fan or not. Though Smith was the story to talk about, the replacement refs had there share of the news. Bad calls plagued the entire game with it mostly being missed calls in the passing defense. At one point, the crowd started to chant BS over national TV. Not like Roger Goodell cares at all.

Pats and Cowboys Get Upset, Eagles Outfly Ravens and More
A wild Sunday of football across the NFL as there were two notable upsets.
The first one was the Cardinals going into Foxboro and getting a win over the Patriots. The Cardinals went in there and looked like the Giants... in the sense that they stifle the Pats and limit their points total. The Patriots didn't get a TD until the 4th quarter. They needed to convert the two-point conversion but failed. Luckily they got the ball back from the Cardinals by way of the fumble with about a minute to go. But then luck turns against them once more as Stephen Gostkowski misses a 42 yd FG as it sails wide left. Cardinals hold on and win it 20-18.
The other major upset was in Seattle as the Seahawks played host to them Cowboys. It was an interesting game as the Seahawks got in front early with a FG and then a TD return off a blocked punt. The Cowboys then scored their only TD of the game but then failed to do anything else. A couple more TDs from Seattle in the second half put this one away for the Seahawks 27-7. Two NFC West teams are the cause of the biggest upsets of the week.
One of the great match ups to watch on the day had the Ravens going into Philly to take on the Eagles in the battle of the birds. The Eagles ran it considerably more to help Michael Vick but he still had problems. Vick threw for 371 yards and a TD but still had 2 INTs on the day. Despite that and two more fumbles by the Eagles, they somehow win it again late 24-23. After the Eagles TD, Joe Flacco and the Ravens had one more shot within two minutes but could not convert a 4th down to keep the drive alive.
As for the other games, the Giants avoid joining the Pats and the Cowboys in the getting upset department as they hold on for a win over the Bucs 41-34. Eli Manning comes through in the clutch again leading his team to 25 4th quarter points to get them the win. Andrew Luck records his first win as an QB in the NFL as the Colts beat the Vikings 23-20. Luck went 20/31 for 224 passing yards and 2 TD passes. Adam Vinatieri made the game winning 53 yd FG with 8 seconds left. The Panthers beat the dysfunctional Saints 35-27. Maybe dysfunctional is the wrong word but what else do you call a team where half of management is suspended. Last I'll mention is that the Rams beat the Redskins 31-28. Robert Griffin III scores his first two rushing TDs of his career but picks up his first career loss along with it.
What did we learn from this Sunday? The rough lesson that we have to reminded of from time to time: that there is no such thing as a sure thing. Perhaps the one powerhouse team that looked the most consistent yesterday was the 49ers.

Manning's Fine Broncos Debut, RG3 King of the Rookies, Jets Score a Lot and More
The first NFL Sunday of the year passed by with a lot of stories to talk about. One of which was Peyton Manning.
Manning made his Broncos debut and at Mile High where they faced the visiting Steelers. Manning got off to a slow start not using the offense that he is use to. When they did switch to the no huddle style of Manning's, it was fantastic. Manning threw two TDs on the day which got him over the 400 mark for a career, the first of which was a 71 yard TD pass to Demaryius Thomas. The Broncos did win the game thanks to a late pick six by Tracy Porter to seal the deal. Final was 31-19.
There were a lot of rookie QB's on showcase yesterday and they stunk for the most part with the notable exception being Robert Griffin III. The Redskins and RG3 went into the Superdome to take on the angered Saints and they surprisingly came out on top. RG3 threw for 2 TDs on the day including the one in the first quarter to Pierre Garcon for 88 yards. RG3 went 19/26 with 320 passing yards and also ran the ball 10 times for 42 yards. Meanwhile, Drew Brees looked sub par going 24/52 with 339 passing yards, 3 TD passes, and 2 INTs. The debuting RG3 and the Redskins upset the Saints 40-32.
While that was a surprising outcome, the Jets shocked me more. Despite a lack of preseason TDs, there was no shortage going against Buffalo. They managed 4 offensive TDs with the first three of them being 3 TD passes from Mark Sanchez (not Tebow). One of his finest performaces ever as Sanchez goes 19/27 with 266 passing yards, 3 TD passes, and 1 INT. Jets pick apart the Bills 48-28.
As for some other games, the Patriots beat the Titans 31-13 as Brady threw for 236 yards and 2 TDs. They actually had a running game here with 162 yards on the ground with 125 of that coming from Steven Ridley. Both the Lions and the Eagles escape upsets. Detroit beat St. Louis 27-23 and Philly beats Cleveland 17-16. Matthew Stafford threw 1 TD and 3 INTs while Vick threw 2 TDs and 4 INTs. Then Russell Wilson and the Seahawks almost beat the Cardinals with less than a half minute remaining in part because of the officiating crew forgot how many TO's Seattle had. Luckily for Arizona, Braylon Edwards drops what so should've been the winning score and the Cardinals win 20-16.
An eventful first Sunday across the NFL as there were plenty of surprises. I'm sure if you're a Jets fan you do like that. Week 1 wraps up tonight with two Monday Night games with the first being Bengals vs. Ravens and the second being Chargers vs. Raiders.

2012 AFC East Preview: Can Anyone Contend with the Pats?
The answer to the question above seems to be "Who cares? When will Tim Tebow start for the Jets?
The most talked about team during the preseason and training camp has been the New York Jets and it's not because they are contenders for the Super Bowl. It's Tim Tebow drawing the attention in and everyone trying to figure out when he will be starting for the team. The official party line is that Mark Sanchez is still QB for the Jets and while he will be in week 1 it's a forgone conclusion that at some point Tim Tebow will take the job away. This Jets offense has stunk in the preseason and while the games don't matter, they still look atrocious. This whole season might be a wash no matter who is behind center (or in shotgun). Your seat looks hot, Rex.
As for the other teams, the Bills have a chance. They showed last year that they can play ball and even though they went through a really rough patch, they still looked good at times. Getting Mario Williams will help that defense and could get them over the .500 mark. The Dolphins will have a wash this season in which they will be concerned with Ryan Tannehill and his development.
The favorite is clearly the Patriots and this is one of those picks that seems like a guarantee. Securing up the TE positions for years to come with Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez makes Tom Brady happy and having Brandon Lloyd is not bad either. That defense, however, has been sub par and they never really dominated on that side of the ball since their Super Bowl winning years. It could change this year considering that their draft last spring was basically a defensive theme but I just don't have a good vibe for that defense.
Of course the Pats have to be considered for more than just a division. Finishing with a bye week in the postseason is a possibility and going to the Super Bowl is another.

Chad Johnson (Yes, Johnson) Released by the Dolphins
The artist formerly known as Ochocinco was signed by the Dolphins earlier this off season after a terrible one year stint with the New England Patriots. Chad Johnson was seeking a fresh start as was the Miami Dolphins with the team in rebuilding mode. That relationship is already over.
Chad's personal life has never seemingly gotten himself in trouble with the league or any of his former teams (on field antics have quite a bit). But now something in his life has cost him his job. Johnson was arrested over the weekend for domestic battery after his wife accused him of headbutting her during an argument in front of their home. Chad and his wife, Evelyn Lozada, were apparently just married about a month ago. Chad was released earlier today on $2500 bail. More bad news came later for the Pro Bowler as he was released from the Dolphins as a result of the arrest.
And so Chad Johnson's time with the Dolphins was over before he caught one ball, even in preseason play. Johnson's world has turned upside down with the legal trouble ahead that has a possibility of going to jail. As for his NFL career, I'm not sure any team wants to touch him at the present time. Maybe at some point during the season itself when some of this has blown over but not right now. I'm still not sure if the Dolphins made the right choice cutting Johnson but I get that they needed a fresh start and didn't want something like this preventing that. Forte and Rice Given New Deals
With the eve of NFL Training Camps and the preseason, some big contracts were not yet settled around the NFL. 2 players with two different teams got their deals done yesterday and both were RB's.
Matt Forte and Ray Rice were in the same boat as they were tagged by their respective teams (Bears and the Ravens) and they wanted long term deals. Who can blame either of them knowing that this league uses up RB's like I chow down burgers. On the eve of possibly holding out, deals have been struck for both players. Matt Forte agrees to a 4 year, $32 million contract and Ray Rice agreed to a 5 year, $40 million contract. Both players are in their mid 20's with Forte being a bit older and this is likely going to be their last big contracts for their careers.
Very important moves for both teams but the Ravens needed Ray Rice a bit more than the Bears needed Forte. While Jay Cutler and Joe Flacco are fine QB's, the Ravens depend on the run a bit more while the Bears seem to be shifting to more passing with the off season they had. Running the ball is still important to the Bears and should be to any team (except the Pats somehow) but the passing game led by Cutler will likely be something they lean on more.
With training camp around the corner, the one star player that seems to not be getting the love from his team is Wes Welker of the Patriots. Now he will play under the tag but still a disappointment he wasn't able to get a good contract from the Pats long term.
P.S. Maybe if you stopped dropping the ball during big Super Bowl moments they wouldn't hesitate to get a deal done.
Matt Forte and Ray Rice were in the same boat as they were tagged by their respective teams (Bears and the Ravens) and they wanted long term deals. Who can blame either of them knowing that this league uses up RB's like I chow down burgers. On the eve of possibly holding out, deals have been struck for both players. Matt Forte agrees to a 4 year, $32 million contract and Ray Rice agreed to a 5 year, $40 million contract. Both players are in their mid 20's with Forte being a bit older and this is likely going to be their last big contracts for their careers.
Very important moves for both teams but the Ravens needed Ray Rice a bit more than the Bears needed Forte. While Jay Cutler and Joe Flacco are fine QB's, the Ravens depend on the run a bit more while the Bears seem to be shifting to more passing with the off season they had. Plaxico's Brand New Day
Can you believe it's already been two years? Yesterday, Plaxico Burress was released from prison. He hugged his family and then addressed the media a bit seeming humbled. He also apparently met with his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. As for a possible team to go, Rosenhaus said Plaxico is open to all teams, including the Giants. Plaxico also said he will be ready to play when football returns.
Interesting little story about a man's exit from prison and his start on the road to redemption. As for possible teams, the Giants don't seem like a possibility. I'm sure Plaxico wouldn't mind playing for them but they still don't won't him. Much speculation has been directed toward the Eagles, even more since he was wearing a Phillies hat exiting the prison. Another reason why he's not coming back to the Giants. While Philly is a possibility, it's more likely he will end up somewhere else. Maybe not as a first string starter, but a 2nd or 3rd string guy.
While I myself don't have a clue where he'll end up, I'll just guess. The Patriots. Big personalities have gone there before, why not an ex-con. It probably won't happen but I honestly wouldn't be surprised.
