3000 in Style

Going back to the off season, Derek Jeter has had to face speculation that his time as a star had run up. His production has gone down, he's 37 years old, and when he was on the DL the team seemed to actually do better. Despite all the negative press around him, it all went away today. Derek Jeter, the Captain of the Yankees, had a career achievement today as he recorded his 3000th career hit. And how did he achieve it? In a home run in the 3rd inning off of David Price. What a way to become the first Yankee ever to record 3,000 hits. On top of that, he is the 28th player ever to reach the 3,000 hit club.

But Jeter was not done in that ballgame. He went 5-5 including hitting in the game winning run in the 8th with a single. It was all Derek Jeter at Yankee Stadium. When the night was over, he was at 3,003 career hits.
