The bunch of Mularkey is gone.
After one season as the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach, Mike Mularkey has been fired. The relatively new owner Shad Khan fired Mularkey to give his new GM David Caldwell a clean slate to work with. Caldwell was introduced as the team's new GM to signify the "out with the old, in with the new" attitude (even though the old was just a year in this case).
On top of this, the possible Tebowmania in Jacksonville was silenced by Caldwell right when he got in the door. Caldwell said about acquiring Tebow "I can't imagine a scenario in which he'll be a Jacksonville Jaguar -- even if he's released." It seems that Shad Khan isn't going to overrule this possibility.
"It's not my decision," Khan said. "I want to do whatever to help this
team win. Who the players are is really the general manager's and
coaches' -- it's a football-side operation decision. It's really not my
decision."
Two careers in Jacksonville done before they even had a chance. Though the Tim Tebow idea maybe a bit more literal in this case. Right now it certainly seems like Khan is going to let the football people decide, a concept lost on Jerry Jones. It's probably the best move for the team in terms of winning but when it comes to publicity and attendance it won't help.
I am not saying that Khan should overrule his newly hired GM because he shouldn't. It just would've been nice to see if a team would get behind Tim Tebow completely. With Jacksonville making these moves, it seems "Tebow's Time" in the NFL might almost be up.

Andy Reid Fires Juan Castillo
Did Juan Castillo suddenly turn into a goat?
The Eagles this season have been a .500 team that look like a disappointment. Michael Vick has been sloppy, the offense is under-producing, the fans have become agitated, and the owner hasn't made it a secret that this must be a playoff season for Andy Reid and the Eagles. There's a lot of pressure on this team none of this is helping them. They just lost a game to the Lions in which they were ahead by ten points in the 4th quarter. A change has to be made... at defensive coordinator.
Eagles head coach Andy Reid fired Juan Castillo and put Todd Bowles, the teams secondary coach, in charge of the defense. Castillo spent most of his time in Philly as the offensive line coach until he was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2011. Since the move, the Eagles have never quite been the same basically being a .500 team since then with the inability of blocking for Michael Vick.
I'll never quite understand this move of firing Castillo or even promoting him in the first place. It seems like a weird transition from offense to defense like that. Even so, it seemed to be working to a degree. The only reason that the Eagles are 3-3 is the defense for the most part. The offense has looked awful with Michael Vick turning it over routinely. The Eagles have a turnover differential of -9 with the Chiefs being the one worse team in the NFL with -15. The Eagles right now are also the 2nd worst points per game team averaging 17.2 points a game. The only team that is worse are the Jacksonville Jaguars with 13 a game. If anything needed changing, it was the offense in one way or another.

2012 AFC South Preview: NO MORE MANNING!!!
Come on out other teams of the AFC South, Peyton Manning's reign is over.
Since the AFC South was formed, Manning and the Colts had won all but two of the division titles through 2010 (and finished 2nd in those other two seasons). Last season the trend bucked as they finished 4th due to the fact that Manning missed the entire season. Now that Manning is gone, the Colts are left in rebuilding mode with Andrew Luck as their new overseer. The Colts will be focusing on his development for the entire season practically leaving them out of the mix.
Despite the absence of Manning, two other teams in the AFC South still won't be able to claim the division this year. The Jaguars and the Titans are going to be developing their young QBs as well as going after a possible Wild Card seed so getting 2nd place in the division will be a priority for both clubs. While the overall edge goes to the Titans, don't count out the Jags as their early season schedule seems much easier than Tennessee's.
In absence of the QB king, the power void in the AFC South obviously gets filled by the Texans. This team was very good last year, even when Matt Schaub was injured. Their offense is great along with the defense. They are a sure lock for that division. There doesn't seem to be that many weaknesses on that team.
This has to be the Texans year and it could their time as rulers of the AFC South. But they can't take that for a sure thing and best put all the chips on the table now.

MJD Reporting for Duty... After a Failed Holdout
What a horrible time to hold out for more money. Now I am for players getting money they deserve when they can, especially RB's, but this guy didn't have a chance.
Maurice Jones-Drew is basically the Jaguars offense and everyone in Jacksonville knows that, even the new owner of the team, Shahid Khan (MY BROTHER!!!). So MJD decided to leverage that knowledge and holdout for more money. The problem for him, though, was the fact that Khan wouldn't negotiate. He's the new owner and he wasn't going to let a RB win in a holdout for more money. MJD tried to get leverage by saying he wanted a trade but it seemed to go away almost immediately with it being revealed he didn't really want to go anywhere else.
So after the preseason and about a week before the Jags play, MJD caved in and decided to end the lockout without a new deal for him. He still has two years left on his current contract and he could be fined over a million dollars because of the time he has missed.
I wish he could have gotten more money but I don't blame Khan for not giving in. He's the new sheriff in town and he wants to present the image to his new players and the league that he is tough and non-negotiable. Now in time he might negotiate with players down the road but when you are trying to establish yourself as tough new owner you have to start out as tough right away. Looking at it from that angle and MJD didn't stand a chance.
