The NCAA tournament began and day one seemed rather droll. #1 seed Kentucky got by their #16 seed opponent, Western Kentucky, defeating them 81-66. It wasn't that easy for another #1 as Syracuse barely got by UNC-Asheville 72-65. Looks like they need a Melo more than the Knicks do. The rest of the day seemed rather predictable. The only upsets to some extent were VCU beating Wichita State 62-59 and Colorado defeating UNLV 68-64.
Now what about the yesterday? It seemed like the opposite. While the other number one seeds won their games, the 2 seeds had some problems. First, #15 Norfolk State, had a huge upset win over #2 Missouri, 86-84. It wasn't done there. #15 Lehigh decided they wanted to play as David too and defeated their Goliath. They faced #2 Duke and managed to hold on and win, 75-70. Big deals for both universities as these wins were their first wins ever in the tournament. It was also the first win by any #15 seed over a #2 in 11 years and the first time ever two #2 seeds were eliminated by #15 seeds on the same day. Don't worry about #2 Kansas, though. Detroit put up a fight but eventually succumbed to Kansas, 65-50.
These were not the only upsets of the day. #13 Ohio University (not state) went up against #4 Michigan and won, 65-60. Just couldn't hit the three's at the end there. #12 USF managed to upset #5 Temple, 58-44. #10 Xavier faced Notre Dame and got the win, 67-63. Another #10 got a win, as well, when Purdue faced #7 St. Mary's and won, 72-69. To wrap up, #11 North Carolina State upset #6 SDSU, 79-65.
Right now, Brackets everywhere are being torn up in frustration. The 2nd round begins today and upset alert is going to Syracuse as they now face K-State.
