Rafael proved once again he rules Roland Garros by beating fellow Spanish countryman David Ferrer in three sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-3. This is Nadal's 8th French title making him the only player in Tennis history to have that many titles at one Grand Slam event. Overall, Nadal now has 12 Grand Slam titles.
As for the Women's side, Serena Williams defeated Maria Sharapova in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. It's Serena's 16th overall Grand Slam title and her 2nd at the French. Her first French title was over ten years ago in 2002.
A good couple of weeks of tennis as Wimbledon is just around the corner. Time to shop for some boring white clothes.

Andy Murray Wins First Career Grand Slam Title at US Open
Andy Murray has had a roller coaster summer with a loss at the Wimbledon final and then a win at the Olympic final to claim gold while going through both of those on the same court. The gold was a consolation prize at best but he would have another opportunity to win big.
As the summer closes, so too does the US Open and any interest in Tennis for the remainder of the year. With Rafael Nadal out due to injury and Roger Federer getting bumped off early, Andy Murray had a slightly better chance of winning the tournament. So did his opponent in the final, Novak Djokovic. It was a grueling final between these two as it lasted 4 hours and 54 minutes. The momentum was shifting towards Novak but somehow Murray was able to hang on. Andy Murray would win the match 7-6 (10), 7-5, 2-6, 3-6, 6-2 and claim his first Grand Slam title.
An historic win for Andy Murray if not for personal reasons but for country. The 25 year old Murray is the first British man since 1936 to win a Grand Slam title in singles competition. The U.K. has put the weight of their tennis tradition on Murray and he can finally take a lot of that off. Murray has been to a Grand Slam final four times before this and it was all for nothing until now. Andy Murray said afterwords "Relief is probably the best word I would use to describe how I'm feeling just now... You do think: Is it ever going to happen?"
Well it finally did happen and congratulations to Andy Murray on finally claiming a Grand Slam. Nice way to finish the year.

Federer and Serena Win at Wimbledon
The last fortnight in England have been all about Wimbledon and more remarkable tennis. The finals in each gender category were over the last couple of days and it was a couple of repeat champions reigning supreme. The women's side had Serena Williams beating Agnieszka Radwańska 6–1, 5–7, 6–2. This gives Serena here fifth title at Wimbeldon and 14 Grand Slams overall. The Men's final featured Roger Federer facing Andy Murray of Scotland with all of the UK behind Andy Murray. The support didn't seem to help. Federer shows life still in his 30's with a win 4–6, 7–5, 6–3, 6–4. This was Federer's 7th title at Wimbeldon (record tying) and his 17th overall Grand Slam title.
A nice couple of finals over the weekend considering that a couple of 30 year old's prove they can still compete with the twenty somethings. These two prove that greatness is not just with the youth. The amazing thing was that neither one of these winners have won a Grand Slam since 2010. The more significant victory goes to Federer as he extends that Grand Slam record he has among the guys by another notch. Hey, the way he played he might extend it again later this Summer and possibly still as the #1 ranked.
No time for either champion to rest, however, or London for that matter. They all have another fortnight to prepare for.
