As the Giants were finishing their series with the Pirates, the Giants had a major loss of the field big time. Their closer, Brian Wilson, looks like he won't pitch again this year. He will now have reconstructive elbow surgery. His last game was against the Rockies, right before the team headed home for their home openers. Wilson now leaves the team scrambling for a closer for the rest of the season. As for his spirit, Wilson doesn't seemed affected by it at least publicly.
Looks like A problem for the Red Sox is now a problem for the Giants. Both teams are without closers. The Red Sox, however, seem like they will get Andrew Bailey back sometime mid-season. The Giants seem in worse condition as Wilson is not likely to return to finish games this year. Sure, they have a solid bullpen but this loss takes away from the group as a whole. As to who it will be, the Giants will have to determine that as the season passes by.
This loss doesn't take the Giants off the list of playoff perspective teams but it's certainly not a good way to start the year.
