Red Sox and Giants Win Respective Home Openers

Yesterday were the home openers for my favorite teams in MLB. To kick off the 101st season at Fenway Park, the Red Sox went home to face the Rays needing to win in order to get out of their early season funk. Despite the Rays getting out to an early lead, the Red Sox would dominate. After fairly productive 3rd and 4th innings, the Red Sox put the game away in the 8th with 8 runs. Meanwhile, Josh Beckett pitched well allowing only one run in 8 innings. Red Sox win it, 12-2. The only downside was Jacoby Ellsbury getting his shoulder injured when sliding into second base in the 4th inning. Hope he won't be out too long.

As for the Giants, their home opener at AT&T Park went seemingly as well as the Red Sox's game. They played the Pittsburgh Pirates under some fine weather. Matt Cain was on fire tonight with 11 K's in a complete game shutout. He allowed only one hit as the sole hit for the Pirates came from James McDonald, their pitcher. As for the offense, they did fine as two runs scored in the 1st, another in the 6th, and, then to cap it off, Aubrey Huff hit a two-run home run to RF in which the ball bounced it's way into the cove. Giants win it, 5-0.

A couple of fine openers for these two ball clubs. Hope wins like this can keep the momentum going.
