An Italian Grand Slam Winner
A first has happened at Roland Garros: Francesca Schiavone has become the first woman from Italy to win a Grand Slam event. She fought through this tournament and managed to beat Samantha Stosur in two sets to claim the French Open. Of course this is Schiavone's first Grand Slam title and it is always great to see someone win a Grand Slam for the first time no matter what country they are from. Schiavone is almost 30 years old and has been playing professionally since 1998. She may not have that much time left in her career, comparatively speaking of course, but at least she can now say she won a Grand Slam title.
