With England and the US fighting to a draw, Algeria and Slovenia had a chance to take control of Group C for themselves. Unfortunately, only one of them could do it as they played against each other. It would Slovenia getting the win thanks to a late Goal by Robert Koren. They take control of the Group with 3 points over the US and England's 1 point.
Meanwhile Group D started their competition with Ghana vs. Serbia. It was tied throughout the game until the 84' when Zdravko Kuzmanovic of Serbia was called for a handball in his own penalty box. Asamoah Gyan would take a penalty kick as a result and score the game's only goal giving Ghana a 1-0 victory. It would be a African nation's first win in this World Cup.
The rest of Group D would finish up with Germany playing against Australia. Germany would own this game as they took a 2-0 lead going into the 2nd half. Any chance of a comeback was crushed when Australia's Tim Cahill was Red Carded and left Australia a man short. Germany would score two more goals and win this match, 4-0. This is the most goals scored in a match so far in this tournament and shows that Germany is the best of Group D and will probably go well beyond the Group stage.
