It's annoying when an jerk comes from out of the stands and runs across the field of play during a game. We do get a few laughs every now and then because of these a**holes like the tazered fan in Philadelphia, but for the most part they are just a nuisance. This incident at the UCLA-Arizona game was just plain weird.
Near the end of the 1st half of this blowout game that ended in a Arizona win, 48-12, a fan came out of the stands in a referee's uniform, blew a whistle, and actually managed to call a play dead. He then started to take off his clothes and streak. This isn't the big story, however, as after the dead play, the players on both teams on the field started to exchange some words and then some fists. A brawl ensued and it wasn't pretty. Ultimately, both sides were calmed down and they were able to finish the game.
Yesterday, the Pac-12 handed out suspensions to 10 players involved in the brawl: 6 UCLA Players and 4 Arizona players. The funny thing is that this brawl probably wouldn't have happened if the streaker hadn't have come out on the field. The players probably wouldn't have exchanged words then and no one would be suspended. Now of course the streaker didn't cause the two sides to fight but he did create the window of opportunity, so to speak.
