Jason Bay Hired While Mike Leach is Fired

The Mets struggled the last few years in several areas and last year it was offense and injuries. To help the lineup, the Mets have signed Jason Bay to a 4 year deal worth 66 million dollars. This addition still doesn't get them in the playoffs but it is a step closer as Jason Bay is a improvement. As a Red Sox fan, Bay was never the best player but he earned his spot in the lineup. I will miss him for a while and I hope he enjoys New York.

Meanwhile in College Football, Texas Tech has fired Mike Leach after the school investigated him about his disciplinary actions to a student with a concussion. This firing comes just a few days away from the Alamo bowl in which the Red Raiders take on Michigan State. From the reports of having the student locked in dark, confined spaces, it seems like Leach deserved to be fired. I hope the Red Raiders can be ready for the Spartans this weekend without their head coach.

Vikings Fail to Keep Up With the Saints

With the Saints losing again this weekend, the Vikings saw a chance that could land them Home Field Advantage for the Playoffs. They would have to win their last two games and New Orleans had to lose their last game. The Vikings went into Chicago and were terrible in the first half. But in the second half, they made a comeback slowly but surely that would tie the game at 30 all when Favre hit Sidney Rice in the end zone with less than 30 seconds to go. Overtime came and they lost. After a miss field goal by Gould and a couple more possessions, the Vikings Adrian Peterson fumbled the ball and the Bears got it at the Vikings 39 yard line. The very next play, Jay Cutler threw a great 39 yard pass to Aromashodu for a TD and the Win. The Bears won 36-30.

The Vikings now can't win Home Field Advantage in the Playoffs and are now in trouble for the #2 seed. The Cowboys, Cardinals, and Eagles could steal the spot from them. This may be one of the most exciting season finales ever. Maybe even better than Idol's Finales. Meanwhile, Jay Cutler proved he can be a great QB in this league with his 273 yards passing, 4 TD passes, and one INT. Though he leads the NFL with INTs, he could still throw a great game. That is something for the Bears to think about for next year.

1972 Dolphins Safe Again, Saints Lose Again, Playoff Picture Clearer and More

The 72 Dolphins can breath easily once again as the last undefeated team of the year has finally lost a game. The Undefeated Colts were beat by the Jets 29-15. The Colts had the lead in the third when they placed Manning on the sidelines. The Jets then took over and won the game as they hope to get a spot in the Postseason. I would like to thank the Jets for beating the Colts. I would like to see a 19-0 team but not the Colts. The other former undefeated team, the Saints, lost a second game in a row as they lost to the Bucs 20-17. Its okay to lose to a good Cowboys team even though it is December, but when you lose to a team that has struggled all year long, you are in trouble. This win though will hurt the Bucs chances for a great draft spot.

The NFC playoff spots have been decided as the Cowboys beat the Redskins 17-0 while the Giants get destroyed in their last game in Giants Stadium by the Panthers 41-9 and also the Packers beat the Seahawks 48-10. What does this all mean? The Packers and the Cowboys Clinch a Playoff Spot while the Giants have been eliminated from contention. The Eagles meanwhile beat the Broncos 30-27 and are a step closer to getting a Division title. They will face the Cowboys next week to see who will win the NFC East. The Broncos playoff hopes are now in jeopardy with this loss. The Pats beat the Jaguars 35-7 to clinch the AFC East. Brady threw 4 TDs, 3 of them to Randy Moss. The Pats may actually have a chance in the Postseason. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh has renewed their playoff hopes by beating the Ravens 23-20. Both teams are 8-7 heading into the last week of the year and both want that Spot in the Postseason.

The NFC is practically settled except for who is the NFC East Champion. The AFC Wild Card Spots are still up for grabs with the Jets, Ravens, Steelers, Broncos, and Texans all at 8-7 heading into the last week of the season. For that week, The Jets play the Bengals, Broncos Play Chiefs, Texans Play Pats, Ravens Play Raiders, and the Steelers play the Dolphins. Can't wait to see what happens.

P.S. Urban Meyer has actually said he is taking a leave of absence instead. It sounds like Urban doesn't want to leave Florida and I hope he doesn't have to.

Urban Meyer To Leave the Gators

College football had a huge shocker today that happened outside the Bowl Games: Urban Meyer is resigning as head coach of the Florida Gators. Meyer is leaving for health concerns and not for gain elsewhere. Apparently there has been some physical side effects that go with the stress of coaching the Gators. His last game will be the Sugar Bowl against Cincinnati. I'm saddened by this news. Urban Meyer is my favorite coach in College football and one of the best as well. He got Utah an undefeated season and a Fiesta Bowl Win (when he was there earlier this decade) and Two National Titles with Florida in the past five years. I hope this is a temporary thing for Meyers and I do hope his health gets better with the time off. It would be a pity if his career ended so soon.

P.S. WHY LORD??!! TAKE PETE CARROLL INSTEAD!!!!

Merry Christmas, For Most Anyway

These past few years, the NBA has emphasized games on Christmas Day. While I get they want to cash in on all those people who stay home and watch TV during a holiday, Christmas is supposed to be about being with your family, not playing for the fans. There are five NBA Games scheduled for Christmas Day this year. I think they have gone a little overboard. Not only do the players have to work, but also all those people who work at the arenas as well. Give the working man a break if not the Millionaires.

Other than that, I would like to say Merry Christmas to all. I hope you enjoy the Holiday and all its cheer and remember its True Meaning: TO STIMULATE THE ECONOMY!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Utah and BYU Win Their Respective Bowl Games

The most well known teams of the Mountain West Conference played two teams from the PAC-10 in Bowl Games in the last couple of days. First, BYU faced Oregon State at the Las Vegas Bowl and won 44-20. Max Hall's 3 TD passes was the performance giving the Cougars the edge. The second game was Utah vs. Cal in the Poinsettia bowl. The Utes pulled off a victory as well as their QB Jordan Wynn threw for 3 TDs as well. Nice job by these two MWC teams. TCU still has a bowl game to play in the Fiesta Bowl against Boise State. That won't be till next year however.

Giants Sqaush Redskins, Holmgren Get Job with the Browns, and History Made By the Wildcats

Monday Night Football featured the struggling Giants against the reborn Redskins. The Giants entered the day at 7-6 and needing this win to keep a game behind the Wild Card leaders. They definitely got it too as the Giants destroyed the Redskins 45-12. Eli Manning was fantastic with 268 yards passing and 3 TD passes. The Redskins defense looked horrible and the offense couldn't get anything started until it was way too late. The Giants now need to hope that either the Cowboys or the Packers slip up this week.

Other stories of the day included Mike Holmgren being hired by the Browns as Team President. Holmgren retired from coaching the Seahawks last year and now looks to be a front office kind of guy. Eric Mangini better impress Mike in the last two games of the year or his job as head coach could be in jeopardy. In College Basketball, the Kentucky Wildcats became the first team ever in NCAA Basketball to win 2000 games as they beat Drexel earlier today 88-44. I'm sure Calipari and the Wildcats will think about this achievement for a brief second and then think about the next game. The way this team is going, they could go deep into the NCAA Tournament when it comes around in March.

Chargers and Cardinals Clinch the West Divisions, Vikings Take NFC North Despite Losing and More

Being closer to the end of the year, many teams were looking to clinch certain playoff spots and divisions. The Chargers were one of those teams taking on a Bengals who were emotional considering they had lost teammate Chris Henry this last week. Football was still played and the Chargers won 27-24. Rivers threw 308 yards, 3 TDs and 2 INTs to help San Diego clinch the AFC West. The Chargers do also have to thank the Raiders for beating the Broncos 20-19 to help them seal the division quicker. The other West Division was clinched by the Cardinals as they won their game over Detroit 31-24. Detroit played a great second half but it wasn't enough for a victory. The Cardinals clinched early, though, thanks to the Eagles beating the Niners 27-13. This year, the Chargers and Cardinals are the Best in the West.

Other stories today include the Vikings clinching the NFC North despite losing to the Panthers 26-7. Before their loss, the Packers lost to the Steelers 37-36 which sealed the North for Minnesota. However, the Vikings do not look like they are heading into January with any momentum. Baltimore gets closer to a playoff spot as they beat the Bears 31-7. Cutler looked awful throwing 10/27, under a 100 Yards, no TDs and 3 INTs. Flacco was the opposite throwing for 234 yards and 4 TDs. The Pats get some space this week in the AFC East as they beat the Bills 17-10 and with the Dolphins losing to the Titans 27-24 in OT. The Pats just need one more win to clinch the AFC East Division.

With only the Giants and the Redskins left to play this week, only 3 Divisions in the NFL have not been clinched by a team. I love the final stretch.

And Then There Was One

The Colts and Saints were both undefeated entering Week 15. The Colts won their game on Thursday despite having nothing to play for. The Saints were still trying to clinch home field advantage and they were knocked off by the Cowboys. I have to say good job by Dallas as they took the lead early and never let it go. They had the ball longer, established a good running game, and Romo had 312 Passing Yards with one TD pass. Drew Brees was disrupted a bit more throwing for 298 yards, one TD only, and one INT. Final score was 24-17. The Colts are now the only undefeated team remaining. They are 14-0 and might pull off a perfect season. The Saints can still clinch home field advantage for the NFC but who cares now that they have a loss.

Colts Remain Unbeaten, Shanahan Talks to the Redskins

Week 15 got started with the Colts playing against the Jaguars. Many questioned how much the Colts would try to win considering they have clinched everything in their Conference. They said they were going out to win it and win it they did in another close game of 35-31. The Jags were close to taking the lead back within the last the 2 minutes until Garrard's pass was picked off by Jacob Lacey. Both QBs played well with Peyton Manning throwing for 308 yards, 4 TDs, and one INT while Garrard threw 223 yards, 3 TDs and one INT. This loss for Jacksonville may have knocked them out for good.

Other football news that happened was Mike Shanahan talking to the Washington Redskins about a possible coaching job. Bruce Allen was hired by the Redskins yesterday as the new GM for the team. Allen might be looking for a new Head Coach considering that Jim Zorn has not gotten his team anywhere this season with a 4-9 record. The offense is doing well finally but now the defense is struggling. That's bad luck for him. Zorn will probably get axed as soon as the season is over and Mike Shanahan could be the replacement.

Chris Henry: 1983-2009

Many have woke up this morning to hear of the news that Chris Henry is dead. He was 26 at time of death and was one the Cincinnati Bengals' wide receivers in his fifth year in the pros and the team. Yesterday Henry had sustained life threatening injuries as he was taken to a hospital after a domestic dispute with his fiancee. ESPN reports that he jumped into the bed of a pickup truck that his fiancee was driving away in. Sometime later, he had fallen out of it. He would be taken to a hospital that day and would die at 6:36 am today. There is no news whether there will be charges in this incident as of yet. Chris Henry will be remembered by his teammates and his loved ones.

NBA Update: Standings Mainly

Basketball has been going smoothly lately. We have gone through just over 1/4 of the season and the Celtics (20-4) and Lakers(19-4) look to be the best teams. The Celtics are currently on a impressive 11 game winning streak. Kobe, in the meanwhile, has rebounded a bit and scored 42 tonight in a 96-87 win over the Bulls. Other teams have done alright. The Cavs seems to be the same despite the addition of Shaq. They did win tonight against the league's worst team, the Nets, 99-89 and are now 18-7. The Atlanta Hawks seem to be carrying the momentum from last year and are doing great for the first time in MY recolection. They are 17-6 just behind 18-6 Orlando in the Southeast Division.

Overall it seems like the Celtics and Lakers are in line for a rematch from two years ago. For an NHL update, I'll wait till I'm in the mood. It may take a while. The Stanley Cup is so far away.

Niners Beat Cardinals Again and Offseason Baseball News

Week 14 was wrapped up by the Niners and Cardinals playing in Candlestick. The Niners beat the Cardinals in week one with Shaun Hill. However the Niners switched to Alex Smith in the middle of the season and are adjusting to a new offense. The Niners still got the win 24-9 as 7 turnovers killed the Cards. The Niners defense played very well against a team that destroyed the Vikings a week ago. The Niners have to thank Frank Gore who had 167 rushing yards and one TD. They set up the run with early passes and it seemed to work this week.

There was some noticeable offseason baseball news made recently. One is that there is a deal almost done that would send Cliff Lee to the Mariners and Roy Halladay to the Phillies. The Phillies are hoping for a long term deal with this move as Halladay may be a better long term investment. The Red Sox meanwhile looks to have made a signing with John Lackey for 5 years. As a Sox fan, I'm excited to have Lackey on the team as we need some more help with the Yankees. Speaking of the Yankees or ex Yankee, Hideki Matsui is close to signing a one year deal with the Angels. I don't think this will change the fortune of the Angels but it will help their lineup.

Two Teams at 13-0, Dallas Losses Again in December, Eagles Take Control of NFC East and More

Today the Undefeated teams continued to impress. The Colts held off the comeback Broncos as they won 28-16. What was remarkable was that Manning threw for 4 TDs in a game where he threw for less than 50% (20/42) and 3 INTs. His rating was 65.6 today but I'm sure he only cares for the win. The Saints also hold on in their game as they beat Atlanta 26-23. After Atlanta came back to tie it at 23 all, The Saints got the game winning field goal within 5 minutes. With these wins, the Colts have home field advantage while the Saints at least have a first round bye. This is also the first season for the Saints in which they won 13 games in the regular season.

The NFC East meanwhile had a power shift that favored the Eagles. First the Cowboys lose another in December this time to the Chargers 20-17. The Cowboys just couldn't keep up with the Chargers in this game and now fall to 8-5. With this win, the Chargers now have a two game lead in the AFC West at 10-3. Later the Eagles beat the Giants 45-38. It was a punching match (literally at the end) until the Eagles had a two TD lead the Giants just couldn't catch up to. Sunday ends with the Eagles in front of the NFC East over the Cowboys by one game. I hear panic in Dallas.

Other Games would include the Battle of the North Division Leaders with the Vikings beating the Bengals 30-10. The Minnesota defense held the Bengals down while Favre and the offense took over. The Packers continue their Winning Streak now at 5 Games as they beat the Bears 21-14. Rodgers had no TD passes in this game as Ryan Grant did the work with 137 yards and 2 TDs. The Pats hold on to their slim lead over the AFC East by beating the Panthers 20-10. Brady was alright win 192 Yards, one TD pass and one INT. The Dolphins stay right behind them with a 14-10 win over the Jags. Ricky Williams' 108 yards rushing and one TD help them in the victory.

Not a bad week but now the Colts may lose a game with everything clinched as they will most likely rest players. Who knows what the other undefeated team, Saints, will do.

Mark Ingram Wins Heisman

Tonight was the Heisman Award Ceremony. It started at 8 PM Eastern and spent a good hour telling the Country about the athletes. Well they do need to put something on to validate commercials. Anyway the award came and Mark Ingram of Alabama won in the closet vote ever with just 28 points in front of Toby Gerhart. This was the first time ever a player from Alabama has won the award. While Ingram's 1542 rushings yards and 15 rushing TDs were impressive, it was the fact that he did it for an undefeated Alabama team and ran them in for a BCS Title Shot. Toby Gerhart had better stats but Stanford was 8-4 and not in any Major BCS Bowl Game. I say congratulations to Ingram. If his team can beat Texas in Pasadena, that would truely be a complete year for Mark.

P.S. I'm going to start a new song here at the bottom of each daily blog. I will reveal a new line for every day.

Tiger Woods To Take a Break, Cincinnati Players Not Happy with Brian Kelly

Tiger Woods has not had a good year. Him coming back from a injury, not winning a major, and having infeldility issues. So Tiger will take a indefinite break from golf. Looks like Tiger will try and be a better family man with this break. If he needs to take a break from Golf in order to do this, then so be it. Family is more important than a game.

Other news has been Cincinnati Bearcats players showing some hard feelings against Brian Kelly leaving to coach the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. What makes things a little worse it is still when the Bearcats have a bowl game at the Sugar Bowl against Florida. I get the reason that Notre Dame needs a coach for recruiting reasons and that's just the ways things are done in college football. Why should it be though? It seems wrong to hire any coach that is under contract by another university and also to do it before the Bowl Games. You don't see the Cowboys talking to Belichick during his contract with the Pats. I know players leave early for the draft all the time but this is the coaches we are talking about. These people are supposed to be an example for the younger players. I don't see that with Brian Kelly.

P.S. While no NFL team steals other coaches from other NFL teams, Arkansas did take Bobby Petrino a few years ago from Atlanta in the middle of the season. Great example Bobby of leaving your contract and losing team for a better opportunity. Jerk.

Steelers Lose Again... TO THE BROWNS!!!

The World Champion Steelers have had a rough few weeks with losing 4 in a row. Steelers have had some bad losses this year losing to the Chiefs 3 weeks ago and then the Raiders last week. The Steelers though have had their worst loss of the year this week losing to the Browns 13-6. I'LL SAY IT AGAIN... THE STEELERS HAVE LOST TO THE CHIEFS, RAIDERS AND BROWNS ALL IN THE LAST FOUR WEEKS!!! How do you lose to the Browns? This win is only the Brown's second win of the year. The Steelers right now look like the worst Defending Championship Team ever and not just in football. At 6-7, their chances at a repeat may be done.

P.S. Someone call the Bucs. Their gonna want to get in on this losing streak of 5 games.

Fighting Irish Find New Head Coach

Brian Kelly has done a good job for the Cincinnati Bearcats this season with some impressive wins. The team went 12-0 and is going to the Sugar Bowl to play against the Gators. Notre Dame saw that and said to themselves "Hey, We Want That!!!" So the Irish have talked to Brian Kelly a bit and now they have hired him as the new Head Coach replacing Charlie Weis. Congrats to him I guess. Well they want this guy to bring back glory to Notre Dame. I don't think that will happen. While Brian Kelly might turn this school around, I doubt that Notre Dame will return to winning National Titles. Well, at least any time soon.

P.S. Bearcats are now most likely high and dry going into their biggest game of the year. Thanks Kelly.

Danica in NASCAR Part Time, Brian Kelly Talks to Notre Dame, and Yankees Get Granderson

Danica Patrick has been in INDYCAR racing for a few years now with 81 starts and only one win. Apparently that and being Godaddy.com's puppet isn't good enough as she has signed to JR Motorsports for the Nationwide series in NASCAR. She won't be a full time driver as she will still be involved in INDYCAR racing. This signing will certainly heat up things in the Nationwide Series and will bring more fans to NASCAR.

Brian Kelley has done a great job with Cincinnati getting them into the Sugar Bowl and having an undefeated season. His job might be done, however, with the Bearcats very soon as Notre Dame is looking at Kelley to be the next head coach of the Fighting Irish. Kelley has talked to Notre Dame officials about it and he could be hired by the end of the week. Feel bad for the Bearcats as they might not have much of a chance in the Sugar Bowl now.

A big baseball trade was announced today when the New Yankees acquired Curtis Granderson from Detroit in a three team trade. I do hate the Yankees but it was surprising that they actually got talent from a trade and not a free agent signing. Granderson is a upgrade for the Yankees as he is a good hitter and a better outfielder. Why do I have the feeling the Yankees have just won the 2010 World Series?

Packers Beat the Ravens and the Heisman Finalists Announced

Yesterday there were a couple football related stories. The first was the Ravens vs. the Packers in Green Bay. It was a cold night for a football game as the Packers were able to pull off the victory. Aaron Rodgers played good as he was 26/40, 263 passing yards, 3 TD passes and 2 INTs. The Ravens never saw a lead for the whole game as they lost 27-14. A reason for this loss was a bad day for Flacco as he went 15/36, 137 passing yards, one TD pass and three INTs. Throwing under 50% is never good. These teams seem to be moving in opposite directions as the Packers look good for a possible Wild Card Spot and the Ravens fall to 6-6 with their playoff hopes dwindling fast.

The other story in football was in college as the Heisman candidates were announced. Tim Tebow somehow made the ballot again making it his third time as a finalist. For 2009, Tebow has 2413 passing yards, 859 running yards, 18 passing TDs and 13 running TDs. Colt McCoy of the Longhorns is also on the ballot as he threw for 3512 yards and 27 TDs this year. McCoy has definitely shown that he can be a reliable QB as he has lead the Longhorns to the BCS Title Game. However Mark Ingram has also helped his team get into the Title Game and he is also a Heisman finalist. Ingram has found holes in defenses all year with 1542 yards and 15 TDs on the ground. The next finalist, Toby Gerhart, outdid Ingram on the ground leading the entire FBS (I-A) with 1736 rushing yards and 26 TDs on the ground. This guy is a monster. The last finalist is a defensive player from Nebraska named Ndamukong Suh who has 82 tackles, 12 sacks and one INT. While I'm not sure how talented he is at DT but he is tied with three other players for the third most sacks in the FBS.

My Heisman prediction: Gerhart deserves it but Ingram gets it. While Gerhart seems to be the most dominate running back in college, Ingram will win because of what he has done for Alabama. Ingram has helped them all year, especially against Florida. Thanks to his effort, they are in the Title game. Gerhart and Stanford are just 8-4 and going to the Sun Bowl to play against the Sooners.

Saints Avoid First Loss, Cardinals Beat the Vikings, Pats Actually Lose Again and More

The Saints had a scare today as they faced the Redskins. The Redskins who are out of the playoff picture are not giving up as they played a great game. Jason Campbell did well going 30/42, 367 yards, 3 TD Passes and one INT. The Saints would come back however to tie it and then win it in Overtime 33-30. With this close victory, the Saints have clinched the NFC South. The other unbeaten team, the Colts, are also 12-0 as they beat the Titans. Manning had a quiet game with 270 yards and one TD pass as Joseph Addai had 79 yards and 2 TDs on the ground. The Titans comeback streak of 5 wins is over and it is likely this team is out of Playoff contention.

Other games today included the Cardinals beating the dominate Vikings 30-17. The Cardinals managed to handle the strong offense of Favre and Peterson as they had two picks against Favre and held Peterson to 19 yards in 13 carries. Kurt Warner had 285 yards and 3 TD passes with two of those going to Boldin and one to Fitzgerald. The Patriots actually lose a second game in a row as they lost to Miami 22-21. With this loss, the Pats lead in the AFC East is reduced to one game. Bruce Gradkowski's 308 yards, 3 TDs and a late drive helps get the Raiders get a win over the Steelers. The Steelers are now in trouble losing its fourth straight game and are now 6-6. The Eagles beat the Falcons 34-7 as Vick made a return to Atlanta. Though he didn't play much, Vick had a TD run and a TD pass. The Giants beat the Cowboys 31-24 as the Giants sweep the season series. Impressive win for the Giants as they had the ball for just over 21 minutes.

P.S. Cowboys Lose? Must be December.

BCS Bowl Selections and the BCS Title Game

Today the bowl game match ups were announced and of the course the BCS Title came along with it. As predicted, Alabama will play against Texas for the National Championship. Colt McCoy now has another chance to prove that Texas belongs on the big stage. As for Alabama, they had to go through last year's champs Florida to get in the Title Game. Of course the question now is who is going to win? I think I will pick Alabama. They beat #1 Florida comfortably, they have a great defense and one of the best runners in Mark Ingram. Texas, meanwhile, could barely beat Nebraska for the Big 12 Title. Of course Colt McCoy could have a break out performance at any time so don't count them out completely.

As for the other BCS Bowl Games, Florida still gets to play in a good one as they take on Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl. The Bearcats impressive season comes down to whether they can beat the Gators and Tim Tebow in his last game in college. Of Course the Rose Bowl was decided a while ago with Oregon facing Ohio State. Oregon's great offense may be stopped by Ohio State as the Ducks have never beaten the Buckeyes in history. The Orange Bowl has the Iowa Hawkeyes playing against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Impressive that Iowa still got into a BCS game despite losing to Ohio State and a chance to get into the Rose Bowl. Then there is the one bowl I want to watch the most as the Fiesta Bowl will be played by two teams outside the Big Conferences: TCU of the Mountain West Conference and Boise State of the Western Athletic Conference. Both teams are also unbeaten and champions of their conference. However I'm sure that each team would have wanted to play a team like Florida to prove their worth to the NCAA.

For the other match ups in the Bowl games, LOOK THEM UP YOURSELVES!!! I haven't got that kind of time.

Crimson Tide Too Much for the Gators, Longhorns BARELY Get By Nebraska and Other Games of the Day

What a day for some conference title games. First the most hyped game of the SEC was played as #1 Florida played against #2 Alabama for the SEC Title Game. It was close early on but eventually Alabama got loose and won this game 32-13. That Alabama defense played great against Tebow and the Gators holding them to under a 100 yards on the ground. Alabama meanwhile got 251 yards on the ground thanks to Mark Ingram who had 113 yards and 3 TDs. Meanwhile the Big 12 Title game was on the line as well with #3 Texas against #22 Nebraska. This was a close game from beginning to end. The Cornhuskers defense held the Longhorns back not allowing a TD pass from McCoy and picking him off three times. However Nebraska's offense wasn't doing well either. Texas got very lucky in the last drive with the kickoff going out of bounds and later getting the game winning field goal as time expired. Texas wins 13-12.

Other games happened today with #5 Cincinnati vs. #15 Pittsburgh. Cincinnati barely avoided an upset of their own as they won 45-44. Sucks for Pittsburgh to miss a point after attempt near the end there. That was the difference for this game. #6 Boise State continues their dominance as they defeat New Mexico State 42-7. Most of their TD's came from Doug Martin who had 83 yards rushing and 4 TDs. Looks like Boise State and Cincinnati are in good shape for a BCS Game. The ACC Title game between #10 Georgia Tech and Clemson was a fun to watch as Georgia Tech won it 39-34. Clemson tried to make a comeback but fell short of the first down near the end.

The BCS Title Game looks like Alabama and Texas in Pasadena. Who to cheer for? I hate them both.

World Cup Draw: USA Gets England, Slovenia and Algeria in Their Group

Yesterday's big event was the World Cup Drawing to see who will play who in the first round of the World Cup in June. The USA had a good year in Football and their future now depends on how well they do in the World Cup. The USA got England, Slovenia and Algeria as they are part of group C. Now that to me is good news. We won't beat England but we should do well against the other two. The rules of course allow the top two in each group to go on to the next round. I like our chances. Don't love them, just like them.

As for the other groups, Italy looks like the favorite in their group as they have Paraguay, New Zealand and Slovakia. Seems like a cake walk for the defending champs. The Most successful team in tournament history, Brazil, has a challenge as they got Portugal in their group. The other teams in the group Ivory Coast and North Korea are not a challenge but Portugal and Brazil will be the match to watch in first round. France gets lucky again getting into a group with host country South Africa and Mexico and Uruguay. Give them another handball and they will be champs.

Looks like a good World Cup coming up. Let's go USA.

Ducks Will Fly to the Rose Bowl

The Civil War between Oregon and Oregon State continued yesterday. These teams have met 112 previous times but never for the Pac-10 Title and a trip to the Rose Bowl on the line. The game itself was an offensive game. Both defenses were not at their best and this became a real boxing match. In the end the Ducks prevailed 37-33 as their defense finally was able to stop the Beavers long enough for their team to take control in the late third quarter. Both teams didn't do much in the fourth quarter except for a Ducks field goal.

Sean Canfield of the Beavers did carry his team as he threw for 306 yards and 2 TDs. The Ducks won however with it's rushing attack with 288 yards. LaMichael James lead the charge with a 166 yards and 3 TDs. LeGarrette Blount made his return punching through the Beavers a bit with 9 Carries, 51 Yards and one TD.

With this win, the Ducks will go to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena to face the Big Ten Champs, Ohio State. Ohio State has the edge between the two teams 7-0 overall. The Ducks offense is ready but the defense doesn't seem like it can consistently be good. Oregon will have to make this a high scoring game in order to win it.

P.S. I couldn't resist the punching comment. It was just too easy.

Philadelphia's Answer Has Returned and The NBA's Worst Start Ever

Allen Iverson is back in the NBA after about a week of retirement as he has been signed by his old team, the Philadelphia 76ers. Iverson helped get the team into the Finals years ago and had gotten the MVP that year as well. However things went south a in 2006 and Iverson ended up being traded to Nuggets. Now A.I. is back with his old team as they are struggling having lost to Thunder tonight 117-106. The Sixers are now 5-14. Ironically though, Iverson is not the Answer for the Sixers. His production has gone down the last few years and he has become nothing but maybe an average starter. He would be good as a second star player for a team but the Sixers have no good first player. The Sixers might be able to finish within 10 games of .500 but that is it.

However there are a few teams that are worse than Philly. The absolute worst is the New Jersey Nets. While the Nets have never really been that dominate of a team, they were still a borderline Playoff team for most of this decade. While they haven't made the playoffs the last two years, you can pretty much make that three as they have started this season 0-18 as they lost to the Mavericks today 117-101. This is the worst start for any team in NBA History. This team stinks so bad, the Detroit Lions feel sorry for them. The teams best player seems to be Brook Lopez who's numbers do not seem that great. This team has lost a lot of strength and it will be a long time before the Nets are relevent again.

Charlie Weis Fired, Bobby Bowden to Retire, And Allen Iverson for Hire?

Lot of news in sports recently regarding employment. First, Charlie Weis was fired from Notre Dame yesterday. Weis was the coach for 5 seasons with a 35-27 record and a 6-6 record this year. Weis just couldn't get Notre Dame back to its former glory so the Irish said goodbye. Another person saying goodbye is Bobby Bowden as he announced his retirement yesterday. He will coach the Florida State Seminoles Bowl Game and then leave the team. Bowden ran this team for 34 years and had won two National Championships with the team back in the 1990's. He has the second most wins for a coach in Division I history with 388–141–4 (315-97-4 with Seminoles) as he only behind Joe Paterno who has 393-129-3.

Another story that was talked about was the possibility of Allen Iverson coming out of his short retirement and coming back to the Philadelphia 76ers. Iverson was part of the Memphis Grizzlies for a short time this year and had a problem with them making him a bench player just like the Pistons did. He would leave the team and his contract would be terminated a bit after that. He would retire just about a week ago but now he's talked to the 76ers yesterday about coming back for them. Iverson Favring on his NBA Career is annoying me a little. Look if he wants to play for his old team that is fine but his antics and recent performances make it seem like he not a team player or even great player like he once was. If he does return, he needs to learn to be a team player no matter what his team does with him.

Favre-Verb (pronounced /ˈfɑrv/), Definition: A person who can't decide between staying employed or retirement. Ex: Michael Jordon Favred a couple of times in his career; once in the middle of Bulls career and then again between the Bulls and the Wizards.

Saints Destroy Patriots, Indy Gets By Houston, Niners Snap Jaguars 3 Game Win Streak and More

The game of the week was earlier tonight with the Saints playing the Pats in the Superdome. Many saw this as a true test for the Saints to see if they were for real. It seemed more like homework. The Saints destroyed the Pats with Brees throwing 18/23, 371 yards and 5 TD passes. Brady in the meanwhile had a bad night throwing no TDs and 2 INTs. Final score was 38-17. The other undefeated team, the Colts, won as well as they avoided another upset as they beat Houston 35-27. Manning lead the Colts from a 13 point deficit at halftime as he threw 3 TDs and 2 INTs for the game. Colts and Saints are now both 11-0.

Other games this week included the Niners beating the Jaguars 20-3 and ending the Jaguars' 3 game winning streak. The Niners defense was great as they only allowed 3 points and Alex Smith played alright throwing 27/41, 232 yards and 2 TD passes. This team can win games but execution is key for them. Brett Favre and the Vikings beat Chicago 36-10 as Favre threw 32/48, 392 yards and 3 TD passes. Jay Cutler threw for one TD and 2 INTs as he continues to struggle in Chicago. While Denver did win on Thanksgiving, the Chargers won to keep their lead in the AFC West at one game as they beat the Chiefs 43-14. Philip Rivers threw for 317 Yards and 2 TDs while L.T. ran for under 50 yards but did get 2 TDs on the ground. The Comeback Titans continue their luck as they won their 5 game in a row as they beat Arizona 20-17. Vince Young showed he could throw the ball as he went 27/43, 387 yards and one TD pass. The Titans are now 5-6 on the year.

I now wonder how far the Saints and the Colts can take their undefeated seasons. Odds are they will stumble before seasons end but wouldn't that be something if one or both teams finished 16-0? What about 18-0?

P.S. That means two undefeated teams in the Superbowl. I just jinxed it didn't I?

Tebow's Last Game in Gainesville, Alabama and Texas Escape Upsets, Notre Dame Loses Again and More

Today was the last game for Tebow in Gainesville. Tebow and the Gators faced the Florida State Seminoles in their classic rivalry game. Tebow finished at the Swamp on a very high note with over 300 total yards, 3 TD passes and 2 TD runs. What a way to go out. As for Number 2 Alabama, they played yesterday against Auburn and avoided an upset as they beat Auburn 26-21. Greg McElroy picked up the slack for the lack of Alabama running throwing for 218 yards and 2 TDs. #3 Texas avoided an upset of their own on Thanksgiving as they beat Texas A&M 49-39. Both offenses were on fire and but Texas managed to stop A&M's offense a few key times for the win. Colt McCoy added to the offensive fire with 304 Yards and 4 TD passes.

There were other key games this weekend as well. #4 TCU beat New Mexico 51-10 hoping that their effort will get them into the National Championship game. They Finish the season 12-0. #5 Cincinnati beats Illinois 49-36 thanks to Tony Pike's 399 yards and 6 TD passes. They still have to go through Pittsburgh who lost their game this week to West Virginia 19-16. #6 Boise State beats Nevada 44-33 with the help of Kellen Moore's 5 TD passes. Boise State finishes the regular season 12-0 and now waits to see if anybody falls. Another big game was Notre Dame vs. Stanford with Charlie Weis' career at the school was on the line. This game went back and forth a bit until Stanford came out on top. Despite Jimmy Clausen throwing 5 TD passes, Notre Dame's Defense just couldn't stop Toby Gerhart who had 205 rushing yards and 3 running TDs.

P.S. I think that Charlie Weis is done as he has lost four games in a row now. His team is 6-6 and they just don't seem to be getting any better. But if this was any other program he would probably stay around but this is Notre Dame and has higher standards. What are they again?

Thankful for Football

Hope you all had some good turkey yesterday and sat down and slept in front of some good football games. The first was the Packers vs. the Lions. I still don't get why they play a game every thanksgiving in Detroit. It's not one one of the more popular teams and The Lions always seem to lose, like yesterday. The final score was 34-12. Aaron Rodgers actually could stay standing long enough to be effective as he threw for 348 yards and 3 TDs. Also a Good game from Donald Driver as he had 7 catches, 142 yards and One TD.

The Next game was also another Traditional Thanksgiving Game with the Raiders vs. the Cowboys. There is always a game in Dallas on Thanksgiving just like Detroit but the Cowboys are actually popular and they win; at least recently. Today wasn't any different as they beat the Raiders 24-7. Tony Romo threw for 309 Yards and 2 TDs while Miles Austin had 7 catches, 145 Yards and one TD. The Cowboys had control of this game throughout and made a lot of Cowboy fans happy while they ate turkey.

The last game of the day was the Giants vs. Broncos. While not really traditional, it was a good game. The Broncos defense finally came back to life after nearly a month of struggles. They allowed no TDs and only two field goals. Kyle Orton meanwhile did alright throwing 245 yards, one TD and one INT. The Broncos offense did enough to win 26-6. They finally snapped their 4 game losing streak. Meanwhile the Giants looked bad and they lose again after snapping their four game losing streak last week.

P.S. This is my 100th posting. I'm thankful for sticking with this blog as it has been a pleasure writing about sports. I'm also thankful that Timmy won the Cy Young again, the Gators won the BCS Title and that the Penguins won the Stanley Cup. Also this pie is really good.

MVP: Mauer Vs. Pujols

The MVP's of Baseball were announced over the last couple of days. The American League MVP was Joe Mauer of the Minnesota Twins. Mauer had the best batting avg. in the Majors with a .365. He also had 28 home runs and 96 RBI's. Also Mauer practically carried the Twins into the postseason. The big question for Mauer is whether he will stay with the Twins long term or go elsewhere when his contract is up. He says he likes Minnesota and I personally hopes he stays there. Not many players out there that play for one team entirely anymore.

The National League MVP was a repeat as Albert Pujols won his third MVP trophy. He lead the Majors with 47 Home runs. He also batted a .327 with 135 RBI's. Pujols was clearly the best player in the National League as he lead his Cardinals to the playoffs. He also got all the first place votes for NL MVP. Pujols might be the best player of this generation as he has a nice swing, a great impact on the offense, and is even pretty good at first base. Pujols might even get over 400 homers for his career next season.

But who is the true MVP. Taking in the facts that both player's teams got to the playoffs and then were eliminated in the first round, I think Joe Mauer is the Bigger MVP this year. To be clear, Pujols is the better player and had the better season but Mauer carried his team into the playoffs while Pujols had a bit more help. Mauer was more important to the Twins than Pujols was to the Cardinals. Both still important, But Mauer just a bit more.

Unlikely Upsets, Saints and Colts Still Undefeated, Broncos Continue to Fall and More

Week 11 showed that no team is safe from an upset. One such upset was the Raiders beating the 7-2 Bengals 20-17. The Raiders came back in the fourth to win it thanks to a Gradkowski TD pass and a Janikowski Field Goal. Say that ten times. Another upset was the Chiefs beating the Steelers in OT 27-24. This must hurt the Steelers losing to this team while the Bengals lose as well. They could've made up some ground but they didn't. No one could upset the undefeated Colts and Saints however. The Colts barely hold for the win over the Ravens 17-15 while the Saints crush the Bucs 38-7. While the Colts did play against the stronger team, the Saints still looked more impressive.

Other games include the Broncos getting destroyed by the Chargers 32-3. This team continues to fall apart and desperately needs a win as they are now behind the Chargers in the division. Favre put on a clinic this week as he threw 22/25, 213 Yards and 4 TDs as the Vikings won 35-9 over the Seahawks. This team looks really good as they own the NFC North right now. Pats beat the Jets 31-14 after their loss to the Colts. A solid performance from Brady while Sanchez threw one TD and 4 INTs. Giants snap their 4 game losing streak as they beat Atlanta barely 34-31. The Giants defense almost failed the team but the offense recovered to score in OT. Vince Young leads the Titans to their fourth win as they hang on to beat the Texans 20-17. Heart breaker for the Texans as they missed the field goal to tie the game leaving only a second left.

Good week overall as the weaker teams showed that they are not to be underestimated.

P.S. Niners lost to the Packers 30-24. Niners just couldn't stop the Packers from getting first downs on that last drive.

Yankees Win Again... Wait, That's Jimmie Johnson

NASCAR raced it's last race of the year and it was at Miami. The Sprint cup looked to be Jimmie Johnson's. The race would have Denny Hamlin finishing first and Johnson finishing 5th. It would be enough for Johnson's 4th straight Sprint Cup Title. He would win with 141 points in front of Mark Martin. Johnson's 4th title in a row is a NASCAR First. This guy has dominated NASCAR for the last few years and it seems like he will not slow down, just like a true racer.

P.S. Are we sure he's not a Yankee? Maybe they are a minor sponsor.

Sunday Night Futbol

The biggest football (soccer) game of the year for the US came with the LA Galaxy vs. Real Salt Lake for the MLS Cup. Beckham and Donovan were on the Galaxy and seemed to be the main attraction. Real Salt Lake meanwhile were the underdogs and have had an unlikely run to the MLS Cup. The game was exciting too as the Galaxy scored first and then Salt Lake scoring the tying goal in the second half. It would go to overtime and then penalty kicks.

The Final Result: Real Salt Lake pulls of the upset. Salt lake would 5-4 in 7 penalty kicks. Real Salt Lake's Rimando played well in the Penalty kicks enough to win it. Though I must say that Donovan Ricketts getting injured for LA might have impacted the game enough for Salt Lake. Either way, Real Salt Lake brings Utah its first professional title. That's right Jazz, they got a title first. As for the Galaxy, they had the experience and couldn't get it done. Better luck next year.

P.S. Is it June yet?

Top Four Teams Win Out, Road to the Rose Bowl Update, Interesting Rivalries and More

Another week in College Football goes by with the top four teams breezing by their competition. #1 Florida crushes Florida International 62-3. Tebow threw two TDs and ran for a 55 yard TD as well. Meanwhile #2 Alabama ran over Chattanooga winning 45-0. They ran for over 300 yards as a team with Mark Ingram running for 102 yards and 2 TDs. #3 Texas beat up Kansas 51-20 thanks to Colt McCoy throwing for nearly 400 yards and 4 TDs. #4 TCU beat Wyoming 45-10 thanks to their running game. They ran for 339 yards with Matthew Tucker and Joseph Turner running for two TDs each.

The big game for Saturday might have been Oregon vs. Arizona with both teams needing wins to help get them to the Rose Bowl. It was like a boxing match with each side seeming to go back and forth at each other. Oregon would win in the 2nd overtime with Jeremiah Masoli getting the TD run for a yard. Final 44-41. Couple of big rivalries today as Ohio St. played against Michigan. Ohio St. won 21-10 thanks to their ground game of 251 yards. Also one of the classic rivalries of Cal vs. Stanford was today. Cal held on for the win 34-28. Perhaps Shane Vereen getting 193 yards rushing and three rushing TDs was the key factor. Though not in a rivalry game, Notre Dame loses to Connecticut 33-30. Notre Dame couldn't stop the run in the end and lost in the 2nd overtime. They are now 6-5.

Big game to look forward to is Oregon vs. Oregon St. on December 3. Winner goes to the Rose Bowl.

Boise State Beats Utah State

Boise State goes onto 11-0 as the beat Utah State 52-21. The Broncos keep their BCS Hopes alive as they are one of the 6 remaining undefeated teams. Their ground game got them 323 yards tonight as both Doug Martin and Jeremy Avery ran for over a hundred yards each. Martin scored 4 TDs while Avery scored 2 TDs. Kellen Moore had a quiet evening as he went 15/29, 233 yards and one TD Pass. But they did get the win. This team is still behind in the rankings and probably won't get into the BCS Title Game. They will most likely get in one of the other big bowl games.

Timmy Wins Cy Young Again; Dolphins beat the Panthers

There are not many repeats anymore in the main team sports. However there is one with an award as Tim Lincecum won the NL Cy Young for the 2nd straight year. Lincecum led the NL in strikeouts with 261. He was 15-7 with a 2.48 ERA. It was lucky for Timmy this time as he had to go through Carpenter and Wainwright. Either way, Timmy is now a 2 time Cy Young winner. Congrats to him.

The NFL had a game today as the Dolphins beat the Panthers 24-17. Ronnie Brown did not play for Miami as he was injured. Rickey Williams came in and filled the position perfectly. He ran 22 times, got a 119 yards and 2 TDs on the ground and one TD in the air. Williams played well enough for the win. Jake Delhomme was 19/42 as he seemed inaccurate. I still don't think Delhomme is the right QB for the Panthers but sometimes you just have to play with what you got.

P.S. Get rid of what you got.

And the Managers of the Year Are...

Chad Tracy and Mike Scioscia. Chad Tracy is the NL manager of the year. He took over the Rockies mid season when they were awful and turned them into a playoff team. I guess a mid season managerial change does work. I must say that Chad Tracy does deserve this award. As for the AL Manager of the year (Mike Scioscia), yes he did a good job with the Angels like he does every year. He even got by the Red Sox in the first round. But I don't know if he was the best manager in the AL. Ron Gardenhire did do a good job in the Central. It wasn't a pretty run but they did get in. But getting to the ALCS helped Scioscia a lot. Either way, congrats to both of them.

Greinke Wins AL Cy Young and Dick Jauron Fired

Not many good things have happened for the Royals in recent seasons. They seem to always be under .500, they can't assemble a good team and I hate their light blue uniforms. However there is a single ray of light: Zack Greinke won the AL Cy Young. Greinke had a the best ERA in the Majors with 2.16. He also was 16-8 with 242 K's. It's amazing that Greinke had the record he did with the Royals who couldn't give him the run support he deserved. It didn't matter though as he still won the award.

Sad news for Dick Jauron as he joins the unemployed of America as he was fired by the Bills yesterday. He had three seasons of 7-9 for the Bills and has now left the team at 3-6. To be fair, Jauron was in a division that has the Patriots, Jets and Dolphins. All tough teams and very hard to beat every time. But by the fourth season you need to know what you're doing with the team and how to play these guys. I still think he should have been fired at the end of the year. I think head coaching job and manager job mid-season changes might just confuse the team even more.

P.S. Though manager changes have done something positive at times. However Head Coach is a little different from a Manager in baseball.

Rest of Week 10

The rest of the week 10 had a few interesting games. One had the Broncos playing against the Redskins. Piece of cake right. Well not for Denver as they lost 27-17. The Broncos are no falling apart as they have lost three games in a row. The first two were tough teams but to lose against the struggling Redskins is unacceptable. Then there was the Chargers beating another NFC East team as they beat the Eagles 31-23. The Chargers are now tied with the Broncos at a 6-3 record in the AFC West. Looks like last year. The Monday night game had the Ravens beating the Browns 16-0. While the Browns defense did show up to play, the offense forgot to show. This team is a mess and has no good Quarterback right now at the helm of this sinking ship.

Other games included the Vikings beating the Lions 27-10. Adrian Peterson's 133 yards and 2 TD helped keep the top NFC North team going. The Titans continue to rebound as they won their third game in a row beating the Bills 41-17. Chris Johnson's 132 Yards, 2 TD and 100 receiving yards would carry them. The Bengals continue their surprise winning season as they beat the Steelers 18-12. They have now swept the Steelers and the Ravens and have a good advantage in the AFC North. The Packers beat the Cowboys in a much needed victory to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Packers needed this win after that embarrassing loss to the Bucs last week. Speaking of the Bucs, they lost to the Dolphins 25-23. The Bucs had the win until the Dolphins scored the game winning field goal with seconds left.

Of course people will remember the Sunday Night game and the Pats going for it on Fourth down. Sad note for the Pats.

A Tale of Two Undefeated Teams

Entering Week 1o, there were two remaining undefeated teams left. The first team is the Saints and they played against the Rams. The Saints would win the game though it was close, 28-23. Brees threw for 223 Yards, 2 TDs and 2 INTs while Courtney Roby helped the Saints with a TD on a Kick Return. Though they are still undefeated, they still have 7 games to go and with that have to play the Pats, the Falcons, and the Cowboys. I see them losing at least one of their games. I think the Pats will beat them.

However the Patriots couldn't beat the other Undefeated team: the Colts. I'm ticked off here. The Patriots had control for most of the game and had a good lead in the fourth quarter. Manning though does a good job leading his team down the field when it counts. The Colts scored the winning TD in a Pass to Reggie Wayne with less than 20 seconds to go. Final Score: 35-34. They won with luck and with skill. The Pats too a huge risk going for it on 4th down and they may have lost because of that. While the Colts may have the easier schedule of the two, they have to face good teams like the Ravens and the Broncos.

These teams will lose at some point. The Saints have a tough schedule and the Colts aren't going to be this lucky every week. Are They?

P.S. I will comment on the rest of Week 10 after the Monday Night Game.

1-6 Still Undefeated, Another Upset By Stanford, Panthers KO the Fighting Irish and More

The top three Teams in the country continue their undefeated streaks this week. The Gators beat South Carolina 24-14 and will probably keep their number one seed. It does seem however like Tebow numbers on the ground are going down at least in average (1.6). #2 Alabama pounds Miss State 31-3. Mark Ingram ran for 149 yards and 2 TDs in 19 carries. Another great Heisman like performance for Ingram. #3 Texas beat Baylor 47-14 to keep pace. McCoy threw for 2 TDs while Cody Johnson ran for 109 yards an 2 TDs. It seems like the top three will remain the same.

The rest of the day showed other great games. #4 TCU just demolishes #16 Utah 55-28 while in new uniforms. 5 TDs on the ground really helped them. #6 Boise St. continues their run as they beat rival Idaho 63-25. Kellen Moore threw 5 TDs and nearly 300 yards for the win. Ohio State clinches the Big Ten Title and a spot in the Rose Bowl as they beat Iowa in overtime 27-24. No Ricky Stanzi hurt the Hawkeyes and their hopes for a BCS Bowl game. Meanwhile Oregon looks like the PAC-10 favorite as they beat Arizona St. 44-21 and Arizona loses to Cal 24-16. Oregon has command of the conference and a chance to play in the Rose Bowl. USC now seems out of Rose Bowl contention as they lose to Stanford 55-21. Most points allowed by USC ever? Good for Stanford. Notre Dame continues to struggle as they now lose to Pittsburgh 27-22. They made another late comeback attempt but it was foiled by a fumble ruling after a questionable play.

The top 6 teams are still undefeated as we enter the final stretch. Does anyone have a camera?

Cincinnati Still Perfect, So Are a Few Others

Cincinnati entered this week undefeated and looking to stay that way for a BCS Title. The Bearcats have two good QB's now with Zach Collaros and Tony Pike. They both played against West Virginia with Collaros getting more time while Pike threw 2 TDs. Both teams seemed even in yards with Cincinnati having a little more. The Bearcats would hold off the Mountaineers 24-21. Cincinnati is still undefeated.

The Bearcats though still have to go through a couple more games and one of them is Pittsburgh. I would think they would want Pittsburgh to beat Notre Dame so that Pittsburgh moves up in the rankings. That way if they beat Pittsburgh, they look better for have beaten a good team and therefore Cincinnati might move up in the rankings. However it might take a couple of other teams to fail in order for them to move on. #6 Boise St. plays Idaho while #4TCU plays #16 Utah. And if any of these three teams wants in to the BCS Title game, they want any if all of the top three teams to lose. Good thing it's Saturday. Let's see what happens.

P.S. I still want TCU. I think they have the best shot of winning if they get into the game itself.

49ers Snap Losing Streak, Finally!!!

The 49ers and the Bears played tonight in a Thursday Night game. The Niners were carrying a 4 game losing streak entering the game and needed a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. The Bears also needed a win badly as they are third in the NFC North. The winner would be the Niners in a defensive game 10-6. There was barely any scoring in this game as the only TD was a Gore TD run after Cutler threw a pick.

The offense for both sides were down but Jay Cutler was down more than ever. He threw 5 INTs in this one game alone. Now the Niners defense is a good defense but you can't throw 5 picks against anyone. Cutler was off his game trying to make big plays in a slow game. However the Niners couldn't capitalize a lot on the turnovers. It was fine tonight but against anyone else you need to score when the opportunities come. But I'm happy with a win.

Mini Stories

A few things have happened in the last week or so that I will address. One story was Andre Agassi admitting drug use in his book. I understand that it wasn't a performing enhancing drug. Well that's story's over. Who wants to hear about a guy who took the classic illegal drugs anymore. Mark McGwire has been hired as the St. Louis Cardinals hitting coach. This does seem controversial considering that Mark McGwire's name has been linked to steroids. I think this is a bad idea for the St. Louis Cardinals. What the Cards want is McGwire's source and he won't give that up without a job.

Some sad news as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar announced he was diagnosed with Leukemia a while ago. He also said he expects to live through this and live a full life. Cancer is a serious issue in this world. I'm glad his chances are great. Ken Griffey Jr. and the Mariners agree to another one year deal. While this may be good for publicity for the team, it does not do much else. Brady Quinn will start for the Browns this Sunday. It seems like Mangini is just playing pick your poison every week. This team is a Joke.

P.S. Most of this is for laughs and should not be taken seriously. The punch lines, not the stories. Well maybe Agassi's story.

P.P.S. Still a joke. I have to be safe here.

Steelers Overpower the Broncos; Bad Omen for Denver

Monday Night Football came ending week nine as the Steelers beat the Broncos 28-10. Big Ben threw for 233 yards, 3 TDs and one INT while Kyle Orton threw 3 INTs and no TD passes. Rashard Mendenhall ran for a 155 yards in 22 carries for the Steelers while the Broncos whole team ran for 27 yards. Denver offense didn't score a TD the whole game. Their only TD was off a fumble recovery.

As this is now the halfway point for the season practically, the Steelers are still in it in the AFC North fighting against the surprising Bengals. Both teams are 6-2 on the year. Meanwhile, the Broncos still have a the AFC West lead but the Chargers are only behind one game as they beat the Giants. This seems similar to last year as the Broncos had the west for most of the year and then broke down as the Chargers won the division. At this point, nothing is certain but I'm sure the Broncos don't forget last year's disaster.

Cowboys Beat Eagles, Colts Barely Beat Texans, Saints Remain Unbeaten and More

The Colts and the Saints would enter Sunday undefeated and leave undefeated. The Colts would play against the Texans and barely won (20-17) thanks to a TD winning drive done within the last five minutes. I was impressed by the Texans as they and the Niners have put up a good fight against the Colts. The Saints would beat the Panthers despite falling behind 14-0 going into the second quarter. The Saints would regroup and not allow another TD for the rest of the game and won 30-20. As good a start these teams have had, they won't keep up their undefeated streaks. Eventually they will falter.

Other stories in today were the Cowboys beating the Eagles on Sunday Night. This seemed to be a grueling match up where neither side would give up ground. The Cowboys just happened to score enough to get by the Eagles and win 20-16. The Patriots would continue their dominance over the AFC East as they beat the Dolphins 27-17. Brady threw for 332 yards, one TD and one INT. The Pats just did a good job managing Miami's different offensive styles. There was good news for the League as there wouldn't be another team that went without a win. The Bucs finally won a game as they beat the Packers 38-28. Josh Freeman made his starting QB debut for the Bucs and threw 14-31, 205 yards, 3 TDs and one INT. Not bad for Freeman as he made the TDs when he needed to. Still needs work on his accuracy. Week Nine will be wrapped up on Monday Night when the Steelers play the Broncos in Denver.

P.S. Sorry for the late post. Seth MacFarlane shows were new all night.

Niners Fall as the Cardinals Keep Flying

The Niners played today against the 1-7 Titans. By just looking at the opponents record, you would think we would win. Nope. Instead Vince Young gets his second win for the Titans this year winning 34-27. The Titans beat us thanks to three INTs off Alex Smith and one returned for a TD. Smith did have 2 TD passes but you still can't throw 3 Picks. Chris Johnson ran for 135 yards and 2 TDs against the Niners and even Young got a TD run against my Niners. I know we weren't exactly doing great with Shaun Hill but at least he won us games.

Then there was the Cardinals going against the Bears. I was rooting for the Bears hoping we could catch up with a Cardinals loss. However the Cardinals didn't get the message as they won 41-21. Kurt Warner threw for 5 TDs while Jay Cutler threw for 3 TDs. The Cardinals just played better as they had the ball longer and had more Yards. This week now has the Niners 2 games behind the Cardinals. I'm losing hope for the Niners fast as we now have to face the Bears and Jay Cutler. Thursday's game is a must win if the Niners want to keep their playoff hopes alive.

P.S. I will look at the rest of Sunday's Games after the Sunday Night Game.

Alabama Survives, Iowa Hit Hard, Cardinals Beat the Ducks and More

Saturday came and went bringing another batch of college football games. The big game of the week was LSU vs. Alabama. Les Miles and the Tigers had control of the game but the Crimson Tide just overpowered them to win it 24-15. Meanwhile the Iowa Hawkeyes played against the Northwestern Wildcats. However, Ricky Stanzi was injured in the 2nd quarter and had to leave the game with an ankle injury. Iowa would lose 17-10 ending their run for a national title game. They are still in it for a shot at the Rose Bowl. The last big story was the Ducks losing to the Cardinals 51-42. Oregon had just beaten USC and now loses its chance to get into a BCS Title Game. Their Rose Bowl hopes are still alive though.

There were other games on Saturday including #1 Florida vs. Vanderbilt. The Gators would win 27-3 As Tebow actually threw for 208 yards and one TD. The Commodores held Tebow by ground but not by Air. #2 Texas played against UCF as Colt McCoy threw for 470 Yards and 2 TDs as the Longhorns won 35-3. Jordan Shipley was a huge reason for a successful aerial assault as he had 11 Receptions, 273 yards and a TD catch for 88 yards. TCU remains a BCS Hopeful as they beat San Diego State 55-12. Another BCS Hopeful Cincinnati barely beat Connecticut 47-45. Cincy, TCU and Boise State are all still undefeated. I hope they all win out and let the BCS system show its flaws. We are coming into the final weeks in the regular season and I hope that one of these three teams make the National Title game. TCU or Boise State preferably as I would like a non BCS team to win the BCS title. What Irony would that be?

P.S. Texas, please lose. It's likely that Florida and Alabama will eliminate the other from Title contention and that leaves only you to give one of those three teams a chance to make history.

Another Night of Basketball, Boise St Still in the Hunt and Where is the Red Card?

There has been a lot of speculation where King James is headed to after this season. The place the media seems to favor is New York. What a Shock. Well the King visited the Garden as the Cavs beat the Knicks 100-91 with James getting 33 points. Not bad as he shot 12-17 from the floor. The Celtics though get beat for the first time this season as they lost to Phoenix 110-103. Jason Richardson went crazy scoring 34 points for the Suns. Meanwhile the defending champion Lakers beat the Grizzlies 114-98. Kobe managed to get 41 points for his team as he was the only one to get more than 20 points and he now has more than 24,000 in his career.

There are a few things to talk about in other sports. Boise State managed to beat Louisiana Tech 45-35 in college football. LA Tech managed to give the Broncos a scare but Broncos held them back. The Broncos managed to stay undefeated and their BCS title hopes are still alive. Meanwhile in Women's College Futbol, there was a disgraceful performance from one Elizabeth Lambert of New Mexico as they played against BYU in the Mountain West Conference Semifinals. She is a defender but in that game she was The offender as she just did almost everything that would get you ejected and got away with most of it. She punched, violently tripped, and even pulled a player hair back bringing the opponent to the ground. I thought I was watching MMA. The amazing thing was she just got a yellow card throughout the entire match. Man the refs are blind. I must say she did apologize and the college has indefinitely suspended her. I hope nothing like this ever happens again... outside the ring of course.

P.S. I would like to say to Elizabeth Lambert that Ultimate Fighter called wanting you to be the next contestant. If I were you, I would try for the WWE.

F U NY!!! F U SO MUCH!!!

Today was a historic day in Baseball. The Yankees won the World Series. I must say first congratulations. It was really impressive that the Yankees won this year. I mean it was especially difficult considering that they could only sign AJ Burnett, CC Sabathia and Mark Teixeira. And also the added difficulty of doing it with only 200 million dollars for the whole team. This was truely a miracle.

Considering the History of Baseball, the Yankees have only won about 1/4 of all of the World Series titles and have appeared in about a 1/3 of all the World Series. I mean this team has been kept from a World Series title for nearly a decade and I was starting to worry for them so much. But when those overpaid players step up in front of their fans and won another title for the Bronx, it was just like a movie. And to think that some people want to ruin this trend of one team clearly dominating over the lifespan of baseball by simply wanting salary caps. How rude of them.

P.S. This was all sarcasm in case you didn't get that. FU Yankees, let's rebound everyone and well see you next spring.

P.P.S. Why doesn't this league have Salary Caps? Oh right, Baseball's Union and George Steinbrenner. FU BOTH!!!

Favre's Homecoming, Denver Loses, Saints Go Marching On and More

This was a great week for football by just having Brett Favre return to Green Bay as a Viking. The first meeting between the two teams this year had Favre the triumphant hero and Rodgers a target for the Vikings defensive line. Nothing really changed for round two as the Vikings would beat the Packers again, 38-26. Favre threw for 4 TDs while Rodgers threw for only 3 TDs. However Rodgers was sacked 6 times while Favre wasn't sacked at all. Looks like the Vikings have a solid hand on the NFC North. Meanwhile the Broncos finally lost a game and it wasn't really close. The Ravens beat them 30-7 scoring 24 second half points on the Broncos. Flacco played well throwing accurate passes going 20/25, One TD Pass and no INTs. The Ravens were just better.

Other stories in Week 8 include the Saints still undefeated at 7-0 by beating the Falcons 35-27. Matt Ryan was just off his game tonight throwing 19/42, One TD pass and 3 INTs, one of which was returned for a TD. Meanwhile Brees was 25/33, 308 Yards, 2 TD passes and only one INT. They and the Vikings seem to be the favorites in the NFC right now. The Jets lose to the Dolphins again, this time 30-25. Despite a better performance from Mark Sanchez, Ted Ginn was the star returning two kick returns for TDs, one for over a 100 yards. The Dolphins are not the best team but they have proven that you must take them seriously. While the Yankees and the Phillies were playing the Series, The New York Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles played and the Eagles just brought down the Giants. Three TDs thrown by McNabb while the running game got a couple more on the ground. Meanwhile, Eli Manning didn't look good going 20/39, One TD pass and 2 INTs. Nice Week 8 overall.

P.S. The Niners lost to the Colts 18-14. Not a bad game for Alex Smith and I'm impressed the Niners kept it close with the Colts. Still, this is the third loss in a row for the Niners.

Yankees Take a 2-1 Lead in World Series

Last night was the battle of the lefties and Pettite won barely. Though the Yankees won 8-5, neither starter played particularly well. Hamels allowed 5 ERs while Pettite allowed 4. The Yankees did win thanks to Home Runs from Matsui, Swisher and A-Rod. Joba Chamberlain did pitch one inning well. The Yankees Bullpen only allowed one run while the Phillies Bullpen allowed 3 earned runs. The reason the Phillies were beating the Dodgers was that the Dodgers had a Great bullpen and a okay starting rotation. Yankees have a great Bullpen and a great starting rotation.

Game 4 is today with CC Sabathia going against Joe Blanton? What happened with pitching Lee on three days rest? Apparently he will pitch in game 5. The Phillies might be down 3-1 by game 5. I think the Phillies are counting on a tired CC Sabathia. Not likely. CC seems to be unfazed by three day rest games and will likely pitch another great game. I think I would rather have another Lee vs. Sabathia match up. Either way, the Phillies are still in a pickle.

P.S. Here is the next letter to my World Series puzzle.

Florida Puts Down the Bulldogs, Oregon Upsets USC, Iowa Survives and More

Today is Halloween and College football didn't dissapoint. Number one in the Land Florida played against Georgia where Tim Tebow may have played his best game of the year. He threw a 164 yards and 2 TD passes while running for 85 Yards and 2 TD on the ground. This was the game to watch if you are a Tebow fan. Florida wins 41-17. Meanwhile the Oregon Ducks out did the USC Trojans as they won 47-20. I knew I should've stayed home. The Ducks nearly ran for 400 yards and ran for 4 TD, all from different players. Looks like the Ducks are flying above the rest of the Pac-10 right now.

Meanwhile, Iowa managed to avoid an upset as they beat Indiana 42-24. Ricky Stanzi threw 2 TDs and 5 INTs but the Hawkeyes managed to stage a comeback and actually won quite comfortably. Texas played against Oklahoma State and beat them 41-14. While the Longhorn offense scored 3 TDs, the defense managed to score 2 more thanks to some key INTs. TCU continues it's BCS hopes beating the UNLV Rebels 41-0. 3 TDs were thrown by TCU QB Andy Dalton. Looks like the Horned Frogs may win the Mountain West Conference. BSU keeps pace with the Horned Frogs as a possible BCS team by winning 45-7 over San Jose State. These teams might go down to the wire to decide who is the best Non BCS Team. Well, it has been a Trick for USC and a Treat for the Gators. Wondering if the Alabama Crimson Tide are getting a little nervous.

P.S. I will write post for game 3 of the World Series a bit latter after I eat my sorrow away.

Burnett Wins the Duel Tonight

Yesterday was Cliff Lee dominating the Yankees. Tonight it was AJ Burnett dominating the Phillies. Burnett pitched 7 innings, allowed one ER and and struck out 9. Meanwhile, Mariano Rivera pitched two shut out innings to seal the win f0r the Yankees 3-1. While A-Rod was struck out 3 times last night, Ryan Howard was struck out 4 times tonight. Sucks to be a slugger. Although to be fair, Howard has actually gotten two hits in this series while A-Rod hasn't done a thing yet. The Series is now even going to Philadelphia.

As the series goes to Philly, the Phillies have got to win two of these games at least, otherwise they will be practically done for. It will be Pettite and Hamels pitching game 3. I think Pettite has the edge. Hamels hasn't really been himself and Pettite has actually done well in the postseason. I'm sure the Phillies are happy to just take one from the Yankees while in the Bronx. As for the Yankees, they do have the momentum a bit more but still will have to fight for an edge.

P.S. I am going to have a few spaces down here over the series and reveal a letter every time the Yankees win a game. Here is the first letter.

Cliff Lee Shuts Down Yankees in Game 1

Finally the World Series is here with the Phillies and the Yankees starting it off with game one in the House That Steinbrenner Paid For. The starters for this game were former Indian teammates Cliff Lee for the Phillies and CC Sabathia for the Yankees. The result was a Phillies win. What a performance for both pitchers as CC lasted 7 innings and gave in only 2 runs. Meanwhile Lee went the whole game and allowed one run and struck out ten. That is awesome. He even struck out A-Rod 3 times!!!

Another big player for the Phillies was Chase Utley with two homers. That is big for this team. The rest of the lineup also came through with Ibanez, Victarino and Howard getting a RBI at least. The Phillies now have an advantage in this series leading one game. There are still several to go but this definitely helps the Phillies chances. As for the Yankees, they still have Burnett and Pettite while the Phillies have Pedro and Hamels. Still favorable match ups for the Yankees. Still this win says that the Phillies could win this series.

NBA is Back!!!

Basketball returned today with four games on opening day. One game was the Celtics vs. the Cavaliers. Rasheed Wallace debuted for the Celtics while Shaq debuted for the Cavs. Also Kevin Garnett made a return from injury. The game was played and the Celtics won 95-89 despite 38 points from Lebron James. I have to say the Celtics looked recharged as 26 of the Celtic points were from the bench. Not a bad start for the Celtics.

Now for some predictions: I don't care enough to give a solid prediction. I'll be honest with everyone right now; Basketball is not my favorite sport and I don't follow that much or well. All I know is that I don't like the Lakers. Wait, it's Kobe; I don't like KOBE!!! I like the Lakers when he leaves. Either way I can't give a well scouted pick based on what I know but I will give it a shot. I think the Lakers will win it. DAMN IT!!! They were good last year and they now have Ron Artest. I have heard that Artest is all for himself. Sorry Ron, Kobe outdivas everyone.

P.S. Don't forget to watch the World Series starting tomorrow night and also don't forget to root against the Yankees.
