Jason Bay Hired While Mike Leach is Fired

The Mets struggled the last few years in several areas and last year it was offense and injuries. To help the lineup, the Mets have signed Jason Bay to a 4 year deal worth 66 million dollars. This addition still doesn't get them in the playoffs but it is a step closer as Jason Bay is a improvement. As a Red Sox fan, Bay was never the best player but he earned his spot in the lineup. I will miss him for a while and I hope he enjoys New York.

Meanwhile in College Football, Texas Tech has fired Mike Leach after the school investigated him about his disciplinary actions to a student with a concussion. This firing comes just a few days away from the Alamo bowl in which the Red Raiders take on Michigan State. From the reports of having the student locked in dark, confined spaces, it seems like Leach deserved to be fired. I hope the Red Raiders can be ready for the Spartans this weekend without their head coach.

Vikings Fail to Keep Up With the Saints

With the Saints losing again this weekend, the Vikings saw a chance that could land them Home Field Advantage for the Playoffs. They would have to win their last two games and New Orleans had to lose their last game. The Vikings went into Chicago and were terrible in the first half. But in the second half, they made a comeback slowly but surely that would tie the game at 30 all when Favre hit Sidney Rice in the end zone with less than 30 seconds to go. Overtime came and they lost. After a miss field goal by Gould and a couple more possessions, the Vikings Adrian Peterson fumbled the ball and the Bears got it at the Vikings 39 yard line. The very next play, Jay Cutler threw a great 39 yard pass to Aromashodu for a TD and the Win. The Bears won 36-30.

The Vikings now can't win Home Field Advantage in the Playoffs and are now in trouble for the #2 seed. The Cowboys, Cardinals, and Eagles could steal the spot from them. This may be one of the most exciting season finales ever. Maybe even better than Idol's Finales. Meanwhile, Jay Cutler proved he can be a great QB in this league with his 273 yards passing, 4 TD passes, and one INT. Though he leads the NFL with INTs, he could still throw a great game. That is something for the Bears to think about for next year.

1972 Dolphins Safe Again, Saints Lose Again, Playoff Picture Clearer and More

The 72 Dolphins can breath easily once again as the last undefeated team of the year has finally lost a game. The Undefeated Colts were beat by the Jets 29-15. The Colts had the lead in the third when they placed Manning on the sidelines. The Jets then took over and won the game as they hope to get a spot in the Postseason. I would like to thank the Jets for beating the Colts. I would like to see a 19-0 team but not the Colts. The other former undefeated team, the Saints, lost a second game in a row as they lost to the Bucs 20-17. Its okay to lose to a good Cowboys team even though it is December, but when you lose to a team that has struggled all year long, you are in trouble. This win though will hurt the Bucs chances for a great draft spot.

The NFC playoff spots have been decided as the Cowboys beat the Redskins 17-0 while the Giants get destroyed in their last game in Giants Stadium by the Panthers 41-9 and also the Packers beat the Seahawks 48-10. What does this all mean? The Packers and the Cowboys Clinch a Playoff Spot while the Giants have been eliminated from contention. The Eagles meanwhile beat the Broncos 30-27 and are a step closer to getting a Division title. They will face the Cowboys next week to see who will win the NFC East. The Broncos playoff hopes are now in jeopardy with this loss. The Pats beat the Jaguars 35-7 to clinch the AFC East. Brady threw 4 TDs, 3 of them to Randy Moss. The Pats may actually have a chance in the Postseason. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh has renewed their playoff hopes by beating the Ravens 23-20. Both teams are 8-7 heading into the last week of the year and both want that Spot in the Postseason.

The NFC is practically settled except for who is the NFC East Champion. The AFC Wild Card Spots are still up for grabs with the Jets, Ravens, Steelers, Broncos, and Texans all at 8-7 heading into the last week of the season. For that week, The Jets play the Bengals, Broncos Play Chiefs, Texans Play Pats, Ravens Play Raiders, and the Steelers play the Dolphins. Can't wait to see what happens.

P.S. Urban Meyer has actually said he is taking a leave of absence instead. It sounds like Urban doesn't want to leave Florida and I hope he doesn't have to.

Urban Meyer To Leave the Gators

College football had a huge shocker today that happened outside the Bowl Games: Urban Meyer is resigning as head coach of the Florida Gators. Meyer is leaving for health concerns and not for gain elsewhere. Apparently there has been some physical side effects that go with the stress of coaching the Gators. His last game will be the Sugar Bowl against Cincinnati. I'm saddened by this news. Urban Meyer is my favorite coach in College football and one of the best as well. He got Utah an undefeated season and a Fiesta Bowl Win (when he was there earlier this decade) and Two National Titles with Florida in the past five years. I hope this is a temporary thing for Meyers and I do hope his health gets better with the time off. It would be a pity if his career ended so soon.

P.S. WHY LORD??!! TAKE PETE CARROLL INSTEAD!!!!

Merry Christmas, For Most Anyway

These past few years, the NBA has emphasized games on Christmas Day. While I get they want to cash in on all those people who stay home and watch TV during a holiday, Christmas is supposed to be about being with your family, not playing for the fans. There are five NBA Games scheduled for Christmas Day this year. I think they have gone a little overboard. Not only do the players have to work, but also all those people who work at the arenas as well. Give the working man a break if not the Millionaires.

Other than that, I would like to say Merry Christmas to all. I hope you enjoy the Holiday and all its cheer and remember its True Meaning: TO STIMULATE THE ECONOMY!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Utah and BYU Win Their Respective Bowl Games

The most well known teams of the Mountain West Conference played two teams from the PAC-10 in Bowl Games in the last couple of days. First, BYU faced Oregon State at the Las Vegas Bowl and won 44-20. Max Hall's 3 TD passes was the performance giving the Cougars the edge. The second game was Utah vs. Cal in the Poinsettia bowl. The Utes pulled off a victory as well as their QB Jordan Wynn threw for 3 TDs as well. Nice job by these two MWC teams. TCU still has a bowl game to play in the Fiesta Bowl against Boise State. That won't be till next year however.

Giants Sqaush Redskins, Holmgren Get Job with the Browns, and History Made By the Wildcats

Monday Night Football featured the struggling Giants against the reborn Redskins. The Giants entered the day at 7-6 and needing this win to keep a game behind the Wild Card leaders. They definitely got it too as the Giants destroyed the Redskins 45-12. Eli Manning was fantastic with 268 yards passing and 3 TD passes. The Redskins defense looked horrible and the offense couldn't get anything started until it was way too late. The Giants now need to hope that either the Cowboys or the Packers slip up this week.

Other stories of the day included Mike Holmgren being hired by the Browns as Team President. Holmgren retired from coaching the Seahawks last year and now looks to be a front office kind of guy. Eric Mangini better impress Mike in the last two games of the year or his job as head coach could be in jeopardy. In College Basketball, the Kentucky Wildcats became the first team ever in NCAA Basketball to win 2000 games as they beat Drexel earlier today 88-44. I'm sure Calipari and the Wildcats will think about this achievement for a brief second and then think about the next game. The way this team is going, they could go deep into the NCAA Tournament when it comes around in March.

Chargers and Cardinals Clinch the West Divisions, Vikings Take NFC North Despite Losing and More

Being closer to the end of the year, many teams were looking to clinch certain playoff spots and divisions. The Chargers were one of those teams taking on a Bengals who were emotional considering they had lost teammate Chris Henry this last week. Football was still played and the Chargers won 27-24. Rivers threw 308 yards, 3 TDs and 2 INTs to help San Diego clinch the AFC West. The Chargers do also have to thank the Raiders for beating the Broncos 20-19 to help them seal the division quicker. The other West Division was clinched by the Cardinals as they won their game over Detroit 31-24. Detroit played a great second half but it wasn't enough for a victory. The Cardinals clinched early, though, thanks to the Eagles beating the Niners 27-13. This year, the Chargers and Cardinals are the Best in the West.

Other stories today include the Vikings clinching the NFC North despite losing to the Panthers 26-7. Before their loss, the Packers lost to the Steelers 37-36 which sealed the North for Minnesota. However, the Vikings do not look like they are heading into January with any momentum. Baltimore gets closer to a playoff spot as they beat the Bears 31-7. Cutler looked awful throwing 10/27, under a 100 Yards, no TDs and 3 INTs. Flacco was the opposite throwing for 234 yards and 4 TDs. The Pats get some space this week in the AFC East as they beat the Bills 17-10 and with the Dolphins losing to the Titans 27-24 in OT. The Pats just need one more win to clinch the AFC East Division.

With only the Giants and the Redskins left to play this week, only 3 Divisions in the NFL have not been clinched by a team. I love the final stretch.

And Then There Was One

The Colts and Saints were both undefeated entering Week 15. The Colts won their game on Thursday despite having nothing to play for. The Saints were still trying to clinch home field advantage and they were knocked off by the Cowboys. I have to say good job by Dallas as they took the lead early and never let it go. They had the ball longer, established a good running game, and Romo had 312 Passing Yards with one TD pass. Drew Brees was disrupted a bit more throwing for 298 yards, one TD only, and one INT. Final score was 24-17. The Colts are now the only undefeated team remaining. They are 14-0 and might pull off a perfect season. The Saints can still clinch home field advantage for the NFC but who cares now that they have a loss.

Colts Remain Unbeaten, Shanahan Talks to the Redskins

Week 15 got started with the Colts playing against the Jaguars. Many questioned how much the Colts would try to win considering they have clinched everything in their Conference. They said they were going out to win it and win it they did in another close game of 35-31. The Jags were close to taking the lead back within the last the 2 minutes until Garrard's pass was picked off by Jacob Lacey. Both QBs played well with Peyton Manning throwing for 308 yards, 4 TDs, and one INT while Garrard threw 223 yards, 3 TDs and one INT. This loss for Jacksonville may have knocked them out for good.

Other football news that happened was Mike Shanahan talking to the Washington Redskins about a possible coaching job. Bruce Allen was hired by the Redskins yesterday as the new GM for the team. Allen might be looking for a new Head Coach considering that Jim Zorn has not gotten his team anywhere this season with a 4-9 record. The offense is doing well finally but now the defense is struggling. That's bad luck for him. Zorn will probably get axed as soon as the season is over and Mike Shanahan could be the replacement.

Chris Henry: 1983-2009

Many have woke up this morning to hear of the news that Chris Henry is dead. He was 26 at time of death and was one the Cincinnati Bengals' wide receivers in his fifth year in the pros and the team. Yesterday Henry had sustained life threatening injuries as he was taken to a hospital after a domestic dispute with his fiancee. ESPN reports that he jumped into the bed of a pickup truck that his fiancee was driving away in. Sometime later, he had fallen out of it. He would be taken to a hospital that day and would die at 6:36 am today. There is no news whether there will be charges in this incident as of yet. Chris Henry will be remembered by his teammates and his loved ones.

NBA Update: Standings Mainly

Basketball has been going smoothly lately. We have gone through just over 1/4 of the season and the Celtics (20-4) and Lakers(19-4) look to be the best teams. The Celtics are currently on a impressive 11 game winning streak. Kobe, in the meanwhile, has rebounded a bit and scored 42 tonight in a 96-87 win over the Bulls. Other teams have done alright. The Cavs seems to be the same despite the addition of Shaq. They did win tonight against the league's worst team, the Nets, 99-89 and are now 18-7. The Atlanta Hawks seem to be carrying the momentum from last year and are doing great for the first time in MY recolection. They are 17-6 just behind 18-6 Orlando in the Southeast Division.

Overall it seems like the Celtics and Lakers are in line for a rematch from two years ago. For an NHL update, I'll wait till I'm in the mood. It may take a while. The Stanley Cup is so far away.

Niners Beat Cardinals Again and Offseason Baseball News

Week 14 was wrapped up by the Niners and Cardinals playing in Candlestick. The Niners beat the Cardinals in week one with Shaun Hill. However the Niners switched to Alex Smith in the middle of the season and are adjusting to a new offense. The Niners still got the win 24-9 as 7 turnovers killed the Cards. The Niners defense played very well against a team that destroyed the Vikings a week ago. The Niners have to thank Frank Gore who had 167 rushing yards and one TD. They set up the run with early passes and it seemed to work this week.

There was some noticeable offseason baseball news made recently. One is that there is a deal almost done that would send Cliff Lee to the Mariners and Roy Halladay to the Phillies. The Phillies are hoping for a long term deal with this move as Halladay may be a better long term investment. The Red Sox meanwhile looks to have made a signing with John Lackey for 5 years. As a Sox fan, I'm excited to have Lackey on the team as we need some more help with the Yankees. Speaking of the Yankees or ex Yankee, Hideki Matsui is close to signing a one year deal with the Angels. I don't think this will change the fortune of the Angels but it will help their lineup.

Two Teams at 13-0, Dallas Losses Again in December, Eagles Take Control of NFC East and More

Today the Undefeated teams continued to impress. The Colts held off the comeback Broncos as they won 28-16. What was remarkable was that Manning threw for 4 TDs in a game where he threw for less than 50% (20/42) and 3 INTs. His rating was 65.6 today but I'm sure he only cares for the win. The Saints also hold on in their game as they beat Atlanta 26-23. After Atlanta came back to tie it at 23 all, The Saints got the game winning field goal within 5 minutes. With these wins, the Colts have home field advantage while the Saints at least have a first round bye. This is also the first season for the Saints in which they won 13 games in the regular season.

The NFC East meanwhile had a power shift that favored the Eagles. First the Cowboys lose another in December this time to the Chargers 20-17. The Cowboys just couldn't keep up with the Chargers in this game and now fall to 8-5. With this win, the Chargers now have a two game lead in the AFC West at 10-3. Later the Eagles beat the Giants 45-38. It was a punching match (literally at the end) until the Eagles had a two TD lead the Giants just couldn't catch up to. Sunday ends with the Eagles in front of the NFC East over the Cowboys by one game. I hear panic in Dallas.

Other Games would include the Battle of the North Division Leaders with the Vikings beating the Bengals 30-10. The Minnesota defense held the Bengals down while Favre and the offense took over. The Packers continue their Winning Streak now at 5 Games as they beat the Bears 21-14. Rodgers had no TD passes in this game as Ryan Grant did the work with 137 yards and 2 TDs. The Pats hold on to their slim lead over the AFC East by beating the Panthers 20-10. Brady was alright win 192 Yards, one TD pass and one INT. The Dolphins stay right behind them with a 14-10 win over the Jags. Ricky Williams' 108 yards rushing and one TD help them in the victory.

Not a bad week but now the Colts may lose a game with everything clinched as they will most likely rest players. Who knows what the other undefeated team, Saints, will do.

Mark Ingram Wins Heisman

Tonight was the Heisman Award Ceremony. It started at 8 PM Eastern and spent a good hour telling the Country about the athletes. Well they do need to put something on to validate commercials. Anyway the award came and Mark Ingram of Alabama won in the closet vote ever with just 28 points in front of Toby Gerhart. This was the first time ever a player from Alabama has won the award. While Ingram's 1542 rushings yards and 15 rushing TDs were impressive, it was the fact that he did it for an undefeated Alabama team and ran them in for a BCS Title Shot. Toby Gerhart had better stats but Stanford was 8-4 and not in any Major BCS Bowl Game. I say congratulations to Ingram. If his team can beat Texas in Pasadena, that would truely be a complete year for Mark.

P.S. I'm going to start a new song here at the bottom of each daily blog. I will reveal a new line for every day.

Tiger Woods To Take a Break, Cincinnati Players Not Happy with Brian Kelly

Tiger Woods has not had a good year. Him coming back from a injury, not winning a major, and having infeldility issues. So Tiger will take a indefinite break from golf. Looks like Tiger will try and be a better family man with this break. If he needs to take a break from Golf in order to do this, then so be it. Family is more important than a game.

Other news has been Cincinnati Bearcats players showing some hard feelings against Brian Kelly leaving to coach the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. What makes things a little worse it is still when the Bearcats have a bowl game at the Sugar Bowl against Florida. I get the reason that Notre Dame needs a coach for recruiting reasons and that's just the ways things are done in college football. Why should it be though? It seems wrong to hire any coach that is under contract by another university and also to do it before the Bowl Games. You don't see the Cowboys talking to Belichick during his contract with the Pats. I know players leave early for the draft all the time but this is the coaches we are talking about. These people are supposed to be an example for the younger players. I don't see that with Brian Kelly.

P.S. While no NFL team steals other coaches from other NFL teams, Arkansas did take Bobby Petrino a few years ago from Atlanta in the middle of the season. Great example Bobby of leaving your contract and losing team for a better opportunity. Jerk.

Steelers Lose Again... TO THE BROWNS!!!

The World Champion Steelers have had a rough few weeks with losing 4 in a row. Steelers have had some bad losses this year losing to the Chiefs 3 weeks ago and then the Raiders last week. The Steelers though have had their worst loss of the year this week losing to the Browns 13-6. I'LL SAY IT AGAIN... THE STEELERS HAVE LOST TO THE CHIEFS, RAIDERS AND BROWNS ALL IN THE LAST FOUR WEEKS!!! How do you lose to the Browns? This win is only the Brown's second win of the year. The Steelers right now look like the worst Defending Championship Team ever and not just in football. At 6-7, their chances at a repeat may be done.

P.S. Someone call the Bucs. Their gonna want to get in on this losing streak of 5 games.

Fighting Irish Find New Head Coach

Brian Kelly has done a good job for the Cincinnati Bearcats this season with some impressive wins. The team went 12-0 and is going to the Sugar Bowl to play against the Gators. Notre Dame saw that and said to themselves "Hey, We Want That!!!" So the Irish have talked to Brian Kelly a bit and now they have hired him as the new Head Coach replacing Charlie Weis. Congrats to him I guess. Well they want this guy to bring back glory to Notre Dame. I don't think that will happen. While Brian Kelly might turn this school around, I doubt that Notre Dame will return to winning National Titles. Well, at least any time soon.

P.S. Bearcats are now most likely high and dry going into their biggest game of the year. Thanks Kelly.

Danica in NASCAR Part Time, Brian Kelly Talks to Notre Dame, and Yankees Get Granderson

Danica Patrick has been in INDYCAR racing for a few years now with 81 starts and only one win. Apparently that and being Godaddy.com's puppet isn't good enough as she has signed to JR Motorsports for the Nationwide series in NASCAR. She won't be a full time driver as she will still be involved in INDYCAR racing. This signing will certainly heat up things in the Nationwide Series and will bring more fans to NASCAR.

Brian Kelley has done a great job with Cincinnati getting them into the Sugar Bowl and having an undefeated season. His job might be done, however, with the Bearcats very soon as Notre Dame is looking at Kelley to be the next head coach of the Fighting Irish. Kelley has talked to Notre Dame officials about it and he could be hired by the end of the week. Feel bad for the Bearcats as they might not have much of a chance in the Sugar Bowl now.

A big baseball trade was announced today when the New Yankees acquired Curtis Granderson from Detroit in a three team trade. I do hate the Yankees but it was surprising that they actually got talent from a trade and not a free agent signing. Granderson is a upgrade for the Yankees as he is a good hitter and a better outfielder. Why do I have the feeling the Yankees have just won the 2010 World Series?

Packers Beat the Ravens and the Heisman Finalists Announced

Yesterday there were a couple football related stories. The first was the Ravens vs. the Packers in Green Bay. It was a cold night for a football game as the Packers were able to pull off the victory. Aaron Rodgers played good as he was 26/40, 263 passing yards, 3 TD passes and 2 INTs. The Ravens never saw a lead for the whole game as they lost 27-14. A reason for this loss was a bad day for Flacco as he went 15/36, 137 passing yards, one TD pass and three INTs. Throwing under 50% is never good. These teams seem to be moving in opposite directions as the Packers look good for a possible Wild Card Spot and the Ravens fall to 6-6 with their playoff hopes dwindling fast.

The other story in football was in college as the Heisman candidates were announced. Tim Tebow somehow made the ballot again making it his third time as a finalist. For 2009, Tebow has 2413 passing yards, 859 running yards, 18 passing TDs and 13 running TDs. Colt McCoy of the Longhorns is also on the ballot as he threw for 3512 yards and 27 TDs this year. McCoy has definitely shown that he can be a reliable QB as he has lead the Longhorns to the BCS Title Game. However Mark Ingram has also helped his team get into the Title Game and he is also a Heisman finalist. Ingram has found holes in defenses all year with 1542 yards and 15 TDs on the ground. The next finalist, Toby Gerhart, outdid Ingram on the ground leading the entire FBS (I-A) with 1736 rushing yards and 26 TDs on the ground. This guy is a monster. The last finalist is a defensive player from Nebraska named Ndamukong Suh who has 82 tackles, 12 sacks and one INT. While I'm not sure how talented he is at DT but he is tied with three other players for the third most sacks in the FBS.

My Heisman prediction: Gerhart deserves it but Ingram gets it. While Gerhart seems to be the most dominate running back in college, Ingram will win because of what he has done for Alabama. Ingram has helped them all year, especially against Florida. Thanks to his effort, they are in the Title game. Gerhart and Stanford are just 8-4 and going to the Sun Bowl to play against the Sooners.

Saints Avoid First Loss, Cardinals Beat the Vikings, Pats Actually Lose Again and More

The Saints had a scare today as they faced the Redskins. The Redskins who are out of the playoff picture are not giving up as they played a great game. Jason Campbell did well going 30/42, 367 yards, 3 TD Passes and one INT. The Saints would come back however to tie it and then win it in Overtime 33-30. With this close victory, the Saints have clinched the NFC South. The other unbeaten team, the Colts, are also 12-0 as they beat the Titans. Manning had a quiet game with 270 yards and one TD pass as Joseph Addai had 79 yards and 2 TDs on the ground. The Titans comeback streak of 5 wins is over and it is likely this team is out of Playoff contention.

Other games today included the Cardinals beating the dominate Vikings 30-17. The Cardinals managed to handle the strong offense of Favre and Peterson as they had two picks against Favre and held Peterson to 19 yards in 13 carries. Kurt Warner had 285 yards and 3 TD passes with two of those going to Boldin and one to Fitzgerald. The Patriots actually lose a second game in a row as they lost to Miami 22-21. With this loss, the Pats lead in the AFC East is reduced to one game. Bruce Gradkowski's 308 yards, 3 TDs and a late drive helps get the Raiders get a win over the Steelers. The Steelers are now in trouble losing its fourth straight game and are now 6-6. The Eagles beat the Falcons 34-7 as Vick made a return to Atlanta. Though he didn't play much, Vick had a TD run and a TD pass. The Giants beat the Cowboys 31-24 as the Giants sweep the season series. Impressive win for the Giants as they had the ball for just over 21 minutes.

P.S. Cowboys Lose? Must be December.

BCS Bowl Selections and the BCS Title Game

Today the bowl game match ups were announced and of the course the BCS Title came along with it. As predicted, Alabama will play against Texas for the National Championship. Colt McCoy now has another chance to prove that Texas belongs on the big stage. As for Alabama, they had to go through last year's champs Florida to get in the Title Game. Of course the question now is who is going to win? I think I will pick Alabama. They beat #1 Florida comfortably, they have a great defense and one of the best runners in Mark Ingram. Texas, meanwhile, could barely beat Nebraska for the Big 12 Title. Of course Colt McCoy could have a break out performance at any time so don't count them out completely.

As for the other BCS Bowl Games, Florida still gets to play in a good one as they take on Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl. The Bearcats impressive season comes down to whether they can beat the Gators and Tim Tebow in his last game in college. Of Course the Rose Bowl was decided a while ago with Oregon facing Ohio State. Oregon's great offense may be stopped by Ohio State as the Ducks have never beaten the Buckeyes in history. The Orange Bowl has the Iowa Hawkeyes playing against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Impressive that Iowa still got into a BCS game despite losing to Ohio State and a chance to get into the Rose Bowl. Then there is the one bowl I want to watch the most as the Fiesta Bowl will be played by two teams outside the Big Conferences: TCU of the Mountain West Conference and Boise State of the Western Athletic Conference. Both teams are also unbeaten and champions of their conference. However I'm sure that each team would have wanted to play a team like Florida to prove their worth to the NCAA.

For the other match ups in the Bowl games, LOOK THEM UP YOURSELVES!!! I haven't got that kind of time.

Crimson Tide Too Much for the Gators, Longhorns BARELY Get By Nebraska and Other Games of the Day

What a day for some conference title games. First the most hyped game of the SEC was played as #1 Florida played against #2 Alabama for the SEC Title Game. It was close early on but eventually Alabama got loose and won this game 32-13. That Alabama defense played great against Tebow and the Gators holding them to under a 100 yards on the ground. Alabama meanwhile got 251 yards on the ground thanks to Mark Ingram who had 113 yards and 3 TDs. Meanwhile the Big 12 Title game was on the line as well with #3 Texas against #22 Nebraska. This was a close game from beginning to end. The Cornhuskers defense held the Longhorns back not allowing a TD pass from McCoy and picking him off three times. However Nebraska's offense wasn't doing well either. Texas got very lucky in the last drive with the kickoff going out of bounds and later getting the game winning field goal as time expired. Texas wins 13-12.

Other games happened today with #5 Cincinnati vs. #15 Pittsburgh. Cincinnati barely avoided an upset of their own as they won 45-44. Sucks for Pittsburgh to miss a point after attempt near the end there. That was the difference for this game. #6 Boise State continues their dominance as they defeat New Mexico State 42-7. Most of their TD's came from Doug Martin who had 83 yards rushing and 4 TDs. Looks like Boise State and Cincinnati are in good shape for a BCS Game. The ACC Title game between #10 Georgia Tech and Clemson was a fun to watch as Georgia Tech won it 39-34. Clemson tried to make a comeback but fell short of the first down near the end.

The BCS Title Game looks like Alabama and Texas in Pasadena. Who to cheer for? I hate them both.

World Cup Draw: USA Gets England, Slovenia and Algeria in Their Group

Yesterday's big event was the World Cup Drawing to see who will play who in the first round of the World Cup in June. The USA had a good year in Football and their future now depends on how well they do in the World Cup. The USA got England, Slovenia and Algeria as they are part of group C. Now that to me is good news. We won't beat England but we should do well against the other two. The rules of course allow the top two in each group to go on to the next round. I like our chances. Don't love them, just like them.

As for the other groups, Italy looks like the favorite in their group as they have Paraguay, New Zealand and Slovakia. Seems like a cake walk for the defending champs. The Most successful team in tournament history, Brazil, has a challenge as they got Portugal in their group. The other teams in the group Ivory Coast and North Korea are not a challenge but Portugal and Brazil will be the match to watch in first round. France gets lucky again getting into a group with host country South Africa and Mexico and Uruguay. Give them another handball and they will be champs.

Looks like a good World Cup coming up. Let's go USA.

Ducks Will Fly to the Rose Bowl

The Civil War between Oregon and Oregon State continued yesterday. These teams have met 112 previous times but never for the Pac-10 Title and a trip to the Rose Bowl on the line. The game itself was an offensive game. Both defenses were not at their best and this became a real boxing match. In the end the Ducks prevailed 37-33 as their defense finally was able to stop the Beavers long enough for their team to take control in the late third quarter. Both teams didn't do much in the fourth quarter except for a Ducks field goal.

Sean Canfield of the Beavers did carry his team as he threw for 306 yards and 2 TDs. The Ducks won however with it's rushing attack with 288 yards. LaMichael James lead the charge with a 166 yards and 3 TDs. LeGarrette Blount made his return punching through the Beavers a bit with 9 Carries, 51 Yards and one TD.

With this win, the Ducks will go to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena to face the Big Ten Champs, Ohio State. Ohio State has the edge between the two teams 7-0 overall. The Ducks offense is ready but the defense doesn't seem like it can consistently be good. Oregon will have to make this a high scoring game in order to win it.

P.S. I couldn't resist the punching comment. It was just too easy.

Philadelphia's Answer Has Returned and The NBA's Worst Start Ever

Allen Iverson is back in the NBA after about a week of retirement as he has been signed by his old team, the Philadelphia 76ers. Iverson helped get the team into the Finals years ago and had gotten the MVP that year as well. However things went south a in 2006 and Iverson ended up being traded to Nuggets. Now A.I. is back with his old team as they are struggling having lost to Thunder tonight 117-106. The Sixers are now 5-14. Ironically though, Iverson is not the Answer for the Sixers. His production has gone down the last few years and he has become nothing but maybe an average starter. He would be good as a second star player for a team but the Sixers have no good first player. The Sixers might be able to finish within 10 games of .500 but that is it.

However there are a few teams that are worse than Philly. The absolute worst is the New Jersey Nets. While the Nets have never really been that dominate of a team, they were still a borderline Playoff team for most of this decade. While they haven't made the playoffs the last two years, you can pretty much make that three as they have started this season 0-18 as they lost to the Mavericks today 117-101. This is the worst start for any team in NBA History. This team stinks so bad, the Detroit Lions feel sorry for them. The teams best player seems to be Brook Lopez who's numbers do not seem that great. This team has lost a lot of strength and it will be a long time before the Nets are relevent again.

Charlie Weis Fired, Bobby Bowden to Retire, And Allen Iverson for Hire?

Lot of news in sports recently regarding employment. First, Charlie Weis was fired from Notre Dame yesterday. Weis was the coach for 5 seasons with a 35-27 record and a 6-6 record this year. Weis just couldn't get Notre Dame back to its former glory so the Irish said goodbye. Another person saying goodbye is Bobby Bowden as he announced his retirement yesterday. He will coach the Florida State Seminoles Bowl Game and then leave the team. Bowden ran this team for 34 years and had won two National Championships with the team back in the 1990's. He has the second most wins for a coach in Division I history with 388–141–4 (315-97-4 with Seminoles) as he only behind Joe Paterno who has 393-129-3.

Another story that was talked about was the possibility of Allen Iverson coming out of his short retirement and coming back to the Philadelphia 76ers. Iverson was part of the Memphis Grizzlies for a short time this year and had a problem with them making him a bench player just like the Pistons did. He would leave the team and his contract would be terminated a bit after that. He would retire just about a week ago but now he's talked to the 76ers yesterday about coming back for them. Iverson Favring on his NBA Career is annoying me a little. Look if he wants to play for his old team that is fine but his antics and recent performances make it seem like he not a team player or even great player like he once was. If he does return, he needs to learn to be a team player no matter what his team does with him.

Favre-Verb (pronounced /ˈfɑrv/), Definition: A person who can't decide between staying employed or retirement. Ex: Michael Jordon Favred a couple of times in his career; once in the middle of Bulls career and then again between the Bulls and the Wizards.
