Dodgers, You're On the Air

I know this isn't really big news but it's interesting news.

Several investment groups have come together with the desire of buying the Los Angeles Dodgers. Orel Hershiser is in one group, a former Dodger owner and executive are in another, and, of course, there have been rumors that Mark Cuban would be involved with a group. Another big name has joined the conversation. As part of another investment group, Larry King has joined the party. The former talk show host, and frequent season ticket holder of the team, seemingly wants in on all the potential Dodger fun.

I didn't know that King Tut's brother was into bidding for modern sports franchises. Good for Larry King. The more intriguing personalities the better. Better hope they can buy the team quickly. Clock's ticking.

Bobby Valentine is the New Red Sox Manager

Well, it looks like Bobby V is back. Bobby Valentine has been out of the Major Leagues for a while now. His last appearance was back in 2002 as the Mets manager. Since then, Valentine has been a broadcaster and still a manager but not here in the states but overseas. No, not Europe but Japan. He was the Manager of the Chiba Lotte Marines from 2004-2009. He was actually quite popular in Japan. Now it seems that Bobby is back in favor over here. The Red Sox took their time in hiring a new manager and they finally picked Bobby Valentine for the job. Tough shoes for Bobby to fill as he replaces Terry Francona who was in charge during two World Series Titles.

Bobby Valentine seemed like the best choice. You need a well known name that is a bit nuts and that is Bobby. A big challenge for him right off the bat will be getting control of the Red Sox players and getting them refocused for next season. A task that isn't going to be easy but I'm sure that some Fried Chicken and Beer could inspire them. Being serious again Bobby will be better for discipline but the challenge will be of course channeling that discipline into results and wins. Good Luck, Bobby. You are now a guide of the Red Sox Nation.

Jack Del Rio Fired and Jags Being Sold

I guess the playoffs or bust ultimatum was real. Jack Del Rio was fired earlier today as the Jaguars are 3-8 and are, of course, not going to make the playoffs. The team has practically spent the season, instead, trying to get Blaine Gabbert some experience. Del Rio has been the coach of the Jags since 2003, has a 68-71 record, and has made the playoffs twice during his tenure. Speculation already begins as to who will replace Del Rio permanently with Bill Cowher's name already coming up.

This, however, is not the biggest piece of news coming out of Jacksonville. Wayne Weaver, owner of the team, has announced he is selling the Jaguars to Shahid Khan. THIS Khan has seemingly tried to buy an NFL team in the past when the Rams where up for sale way back when. To any of you SOCAL people out there, don't give up your hopes that this will be the franchise coming to LA. Khan has apparently stated that he will keep the team in Jacksonville. Of course, that's not set in stone so people of LA should start campaigning for a move anyway.

Big changes are being made in Jacksonville with bigger ones on the way. I guess Jags fans should hope a big move eventually doesn't become one of those changes. It doesn't seem like it will but I would start going to more Jags' games just in case.

Urban Meyer is New Head Coach of the Buckeyes

Something known to everyone at Ohio State going into this last weekend was that Urban Meyer was going to be the head coach of their football team. Meyer refused to acknowledge it even though it was practically fact that he was going to get the job. Well, now it is fact. Several sources are now saying that Meyer has accepted the job as the head coach of Ohio State's football team. Meyer actually grew up in the state of Ohio and was actually a coach (not head coach) for Ohio State back in the 1980's. Now he is the head coach of their football team.

A great hire for Ohio State university. Meyer has two national titles to his name and a great name for recruiting and keeping the program going through the impending sanctions from the NCAA. What strikes me is that Urban Meyer had retired just last season and he's already out of retirement. Wonder how those "Health Problems" are doing. Just kidding (a bit). Meyer probably planned to stay out of the game longer but when the head coaching job becomes available for the most prestigious football program in your home state, you take the job.

As for how Meyer will do there, I think he will struggle at first because of the impending sanctions. Eventually, though, the Buckeyes and Meyer will no doubt find themselves in a familiar BCS area.

P.S. As for Meyer cracking down on violations, HA HA HA!!! He couldn't keep his Gators out of jail. How the hell is he supposed to keep the Buckeyes in line?

Tebowmania is Runnin' Wild, Close Finish in the Meadowlands, Another Injured QB for the Texans and More

HOW IS HE DOING THIS!!! A featured top story every week seems to be Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos. Somehow, the team is winning with Tebow leading them in prayer. This week, the Broncos were tested yet again going into San Diego to face the Chargers. The Broncos were down early, 10-0, when Tebow got a drive going to get it within 3 points. TD pass to Eric Decker with 55 seconds left in the half. Second half came and it was kept close. Broncos managed to tie it at 13 with under two minutes to go. Game goes into OT and Nick Novak missed a long 53 yarder for the Chargers. Tebow and the offense drove down field and with just 29 seconds left in OT, Matt Prater makes the game winner from 37 yards out. Broncos win another under Tebow, 16-13. Tebow now 5-1 as the starter of the Broncos. Somehow, a Tebow lead Broncos have defied the odds as they are now above .500 at 6-5.

Of course, this wasn't the only good game to mention. For another close finisher, we now face East. The Bills went into NJ and played the Jets as each team was 5-5 and looked to become the 2nd best team in the AFC East. It was a close game throughout as it came down to the final seconds. Mark Sanchez and the Jets drove down field 82 yards to culminate to a 16 yard TD pass to Santonio Holmes to give the Jets a 4 point lead with 1:01 left. Then Buffalo had a shot to tie it and got within striking range but miscues cost them greatly on the drive and they failed to score a TD from 24 yards away as time expired. Jets survive one in the Meadowlands, 28-24, and are now 6-5 on the season. Mark Sanchez threw 4 TD passes, a career high, in this game despite going 17/35 with 180 passing yards and an INT.

Other games in the NFL included the Pats tucking away the "Dream Team" Eagles, 38-20. Eagles are now 4-7 and continue to spiral into a nightmare. The Texans beat the Jaguars, 20-13, but lose another QB. A shoulder injury was sustained by Matt Leinart which probably has him out for the year. Looks like the Texans will have to rely on a third string QB. Raiders beat the Bears in Oakland, 25-20, as Caleb Hanie loses his first game as the Bears' starting QB. The Bears managed to keep the Raiders out of the Endzone until the final minutes with a Michael Bush TD run. Last one I will mention is the Bengals edging out Cleveland in the Battle of Ohio, 23-20. Mike Nugent scored the game winning FG with just 38 seconds left.

Giants face the Saints tonight to cap off Week 12.

NBA Lockout to End? Season Starts on Christmas?

Well I guess good things can't last forever.

It seems that the second sports lockout in the USA is about to come to an end. The word is that both sides have reached a tentative labor agreement after months of a lockout that included the missing of several games in the NBA regular season. It's not official yet as both sides still need to approve the deal with their own camps. If that gets done, the NBA season would start on Christmas day and the season shortened to just 66 games.

Sounds good. Though I thought it would go longer and cost the entire season but both leaders seemed to hash it out not wanting to cause more damage to the sport. Good news for Basketball in that it will see action this season but at a cost. The whole preseason was lost among 16 games regular season games for all. This is assuming both sides will reach an agreement. There is a possibility that one if not both of the camps will not like the deal and vote it down but I think that chance is small.

Better write to Santa Claus. They'll need some basketballs for opening day.

Don't Mess with a Man Named "Suh" and Cowboys Get By Dolphins

As for the rest of the Thanksgiving day games, the Packers played the Lions and finally the game itself meant something to that annual Detroit Thanksgiving game. A 10-0 Packers team faced a respectable Lions team and simply owned them. It wasn't until the 4th quarter that the Lions finally scored something when the Packers were winning, 24-0. The game would eventually lead to a Packers win, 27-15, but the story that spoiled the whole game was Ndamukong Suh stomping on the arm of Packers O-Lineman, Evan Dietrich-Smith, while he was on ground. This apparently came to during a scuffle between the two. Suh was ejected after doing this and Suh actually said he didn't kick anyone or mean to. No doubt there will be some punishment from the league.

The second game of the day was the Dolphins v. the Cowboys in Dallas. The Dolphins were doing pretty well going into the game winning three straight and gave a fright to the Cowboys. However, it was the Cowboys that ended up winning. Dan Bailey kicked the game winning FG as time expired for the Cowboys and won the game for them, 20-19. Very close game but just a bit short for a 4th straight win for the Fish.

As for the third game, already reflected on it. Hope you all enjoyed your Thanksgiving. Time to shop for a holiday that has lost it's true meaning. YEAH!!!

P.S. At least Thanksgiving has somewhat maintained it's true meaning. TOAST TO GLUTTONY WITH FAMILY!!!

Ravens Win the Harbaugh Bowl

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Hope you are not out in the cold waiting for a dreaded Black Friday sale going on. If you are, when the store clerks open the door, I beg of you to not stomp over them like Ndamukong Suh did that Packer.

Anyway, I had a fine Thanksgiving. Great food, family around, and, of course, some Pumpkin Pie. What made it only fine was the fact the Ravens beat the 49ers on this day, 16-6. I must say that is was a close game throughout and until late in the 4th, the 49ers were never more than one good drive away from at least tying the game.

The problem for us and the glory for the Ravens were the line battles. The Ravens defensive line just pummeled the 49ers offensive line all night long and Alex Smith looked like a punching bag for the Ravens front 7. 9 total sacks for the Ravens. Meanwhile, the our defensive line couldn't get any pressure on Joe Flacco. No sacks for the 49ers. During that TD drive that went into the 4th quarter from the Ravens, Flacco could've had all day to throw a pass. Also, the defense failed to adjust sending more guys. Just the front 4 rushing seemingly the whole night.

Still, the 49ers defense all together didn't do too badly. It was just a lack of offense or offensive line that was our down fall. Granted the Ravens are a very good defensive team but the 49ers failed to adjust the blocking scheme or even the play calling accordingly.

So, in the end, John Harbaugh beats his brother and the 49ers in the first ever match up of Brother vs. Brother of head coaches in the NFL. I'm sure the parents are just happy to see both teams doing well respectively for this time of year. The Ravens are 8-3 and look good while the 49ers, though losing, still have a commanding lead of the NFC West at 9-2. And I will admit it, the Ravens needed this win more than the 49ers did but the 49ers don't need to start losing their rhythm this late in the season. Better not succumb to the Rams on December 4th. Get working on that O-Line, Jimmy.

Chiefs Claim Kyle Orton

I knew I forgot a potential team.

It was neither the Bears nor the Texans that got Kyle Orton. The Texans stated they didn't want him and the Bears didn't get a chance to claim him. Instead Orton goes to the Kansas City Chiefs who have lost their QB, Matt Cassel, for the year. Kyle Orton now has to try and lift the Chiefs back into playoff contention. The team is 4-6 and have a tough last 6 games ahead of them. All teams they have to face are currently at or above .500 right now with 4 of 6 above .500. It doesn't look good for the Chiefs in terms of a playoff appearance.

While Kyle Orton may help their team not look embarrassing, he won't be enough to get them past this group of opponents.

Kyle Orton Waived

It seems that Kyle Orton has had a very interesting career so far. He was drafted by the Bears in 2005, traded in 2009 to the Broncos, and now has been waived by that team. It seems that the Broncos don't want Kyle Orton anymore or at least don't want to pay him the rest of his salary for the year. The amount left to be paid is about $3 million. A lot of money but it's for a QB that is good. Not great, good. I have no doubt that Kyle Orton could hold his own if he was put on a well balanced team but so far he hasn't had that luxury in Denver. They just didn't run the ball that much while he was starting. He threw so much.

So who is looking for a new QB? Houston, for one. The Texans need a QB to replace Matt Schaub who is done for the year. They are in a spot to make their first postseason ever and Kyle Orton could give them a chance to go further than round 1. Ironically, Orton's old team, the Chicago Bears, is looking for a QB. Jay Cutler is out for the rest of the regular season and they need a good QB to work in the Mike Martz system. Not sure if Orton is that guy but he seems like the best option available. The Bears arguably need Orton more than the Texans do. The Texans have a two game divisional lead while the Bears are fighting just to stay in the Wild Card hunt.

My bet is that the Texans will take Orton, either on claims or in free agency. Orton might not want to go back to the Bears, the team that dumped him a couple of years ago.

Ryan Braun Wins NL MVP

Justin Verlander was named the AL MVP yesterday and now Ryan Braun was named the NL MVP today. Braun led the Brew Crew into the playoffs and as far as the NLCS. Braun batted .332 on the year, hit 33 home runs, and drove in 111 RBI's. Matt Kemp had hit more home runs and RBI's on the season with a respectable .324 batting average but the Dodgers failed to make the postseason. That is a big prerequisite for any MVP candidate. Kemp might have been the better player but Braun's team made the playoffs. That's why Kemp placed in 2nd in the voting.

Anyway, Congrats on Braun's first MVP award. A good year for Braun and the Brewers but expect it to get worse next year without Prince Fielder in the line up.

The Return of Sid the Kid

For most of 2011, the NHL has been missing its main star on the ice: Sidney Crosby. Crosby has been out since January earlier this year because of a concussion. It's been so long since we have seen Sid the Kid that some even started to worry that he wouldn't play again. However, Sidney Crosby would come back and did come back.

Sidney Crosby made his NHL return last night as the New York Islanders came into Pittsburgh to face the Penguins. The Penguins captain had returned and all of the CONSOL Energy Center cheered like crazy for Sidney. Sidney had a great return night in all. Just 5:24 into the game, Crosby scored the game's first goal, his first one back. He would later score another goal in the 3rd period along with a couple of assists before that. The Penguins won the game, 5-0, as Sidney Crosby had 2 goals among his 4 points.

What a homecoming for the Kid. Sellout crowd to greet to him and he was a big factor in the win. Crosby's first night back already has him looking better than Alexander Ovechkin. For about 16 minutes on the ice, Crosby did very well. The NHL has its star again.

Justin Verlander Wins AL MVP

Last week, Justin Verlander was crowned the AL Cy Young Award Winner as he was no doubt the best pitcher in the AL. Down the stretch of the season and leading into today, a lot of people had stated that he was good enough for the AL MVP Award with his dominating pitching. It seems that he was. Justin Verlander was named the AL MVP today and quite frankly he deserved it. He carried that Tigers team with his 24-5 record along with a 2.40 ERA and 250 strikeouts. He lead in all three AL Triple Crown categories. He was feared on the mound and the one constant for the Tigers all year long.

Like most winners of the baseball awards, Justin would've like a ring instead. If he keeps that kind of performance going into next year, then his team will have a fair chance again.

GALAXY WIN 2011 MLS CUP!!!

Back in 2007, David Beckham signed a 5 year contract with the LA Galaxy and instantly brought more attention to MLS. During Beckham's US Tour there arose problems between him and the popular Galaxy player, Landon Donovan. This uneven relationship didn't seem to be aided by the fact the team had yet to win an MLS Cup while Beckham was here.

Let's fast forward to last night. It was possibly David Beckham's last game with the LA Galaxy and in MLS for that matter and it featured his team going up against the Houston Dynamo for the MLS Cup at the Home Depot Center, the home stadium for LA. Both teams were well prepared and took the pitch wanting to claim the title. A rather mediocre first half with some close chances for the Galaxy but the team failed to capitalize. The 2nd half came and still nothing right away. The game would have to wait until the 72' when Beckham managed to get it to Robbie Keane who then set up Landon Donovan for a Beautiful tap in shot for the goal. A well done run leads to a score. The Galaxy manage to hold on for the rest of the match defensively and win it, 1-0.

The LA Galaxy are MLS Cup Champions. Definitely better than the Tony Stewart win. How Much? SO MUCH!!! After all that has been invested into this team and the year after year of falling short finally pay off as LA manage to win it all and at home. Donovan, of course, was MVP of the match but a great job by the whole team, including David Beckham. I feel a bit sorry for the Dynamo as the story all along was the Galaxy and this win. Maybe next year, Houston.

Speculation, of course, begins again whether David Beckham will stay or go. He has brought more attention to the sport and the sport has grown significantly while he was here. Not to the level soccer fans and investors would want but it has risen. Whatever Beckham's choice is, that is for later. For now, Congratulations LA Galaxy. You finally get the ending you've wanted for five years.

Packers Avoid Upset, Cowboys and Giants Now Tied, Cutler Injured and More

Yesterday in the NFL had analysts start asking the question of all undefeated teams at this point in the season: Can they go undefeated for the rest of the way? The powerful team under the microscope this year is the Green Bay Packers. This week the Pack played the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Lambeau. Looking at the halftime score, it seemed like it was shaping up to be a runaway victory for the Packers. But the Bucs stayed in it. Comeback by Tampa got them within 2 points with under 5 minutes left thanks to a TD pass from Josh Freeman to Dezman Briscoe. After failing a onside kick, though, Aaron Rodgers made them pay with a 40 yard TD pass to Jordy Nelson with just under 3 minutes left. That sealed the victory as the Packers win, 35-26. Rodgers may be frustrated with his play but a win is a win. He also still had a 112.3 QB rating for the day. Man, he has high standards. 10-0 are the Pack.

While the Packers were looking to stay perfect, a couple of NFC East teams were just looking for some wins. First NFC East match up featured the Redskins and Cowboys and this wild one went in OT. After a failed FG by Gano, the Cowboys got it and managed to just make a 39 yard FG to end the game thanks to Dan Bailey. Cowboys win in OT, 27-24. Later that night, the Giants faced a Vickless Eagles as Vince Young filled in for the injured QB. Not a very exciting game throughout but Vince Young managed to lead the Eagles to victory with a 8 yard TD pass to Riley Cooper with 2:45 to go. Eagles win it thanks to that and then an Eli Manning fumble, 17-10. The Giants and Cowboys are now tied for the NFC East with both teams being 6-4.

As for the rest of the NFL, the Bears see there season in jeopardy despite a win over the Chargers, 31-20. Jay Cutler broke his thumb and it now looks like he is out for the remainder of the regular season. Now they need a QB. Their division rivals, the Lions, managed to hold off the Panthers, 49-35. Both the Bears and the Lions are still tied for 2nd in the NFC North. In the AFC North, the Ravens beat the Bengals, 31-24. Two close games for the Bengals against AFC North opponents but they lost them both. Last one I'll mention is the Raiders holding off the Vikings, 27-21. The Raiders have a one game edge in the AFC West.

Great Sunday overall with Week 11 ending tonight with the Chiefs vs. the Pats.

49ers Beat Cardinals and are 9-1

I was really worried about this game, to tell you all the truth. The 49ers play the Ravens Thursday night in Baltimore featuring Harbaugh vs. Harbaugh. I thought the team would glance over the Cardinals and lose to them as they prepared for the Ravens. Thank goodness the Cardinals really suck. We weren't that great either... at least in the first half. 6 FG's attempts by the 49ers and only 3 of them were made. Two were blocked which says special teams need a bit of work. The defense were able to pick us up again forcing 5 turnovers. The 49ers finally got it going in the 2nd half with 2 TD passes from Alex Smith in the third quarter. When the Cardinals finally struck, it was too late. 49ers win, 23-7.

Some offensive miscues by the offense early but they were able to overcome them. Smith did well overall with 267 passing yards, 2 TD passes, and 1 INT. Need better WR communication early, though. More balanced offense this week with more focus on the run. Sort of feel sorry for the 3-7 Cardinals as their season has not gone the way they hoped at all. As for the 49ers, they are now 9-1 with an 8 game winning streak. It would be impressive to see that streak hit 9 games, especially with the Ravens on Thanksgiving.

Sprint Cup Winner Crowned and It's Not Jimmie Johnson

The Nascar season came to an end yesterday at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The Sprint Cup title came down to only two folks and neither was Jimmie Johnson. It was Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards. It was neck and neck so far in the Chase between these two and the whole race would really only be about them. In the midst of all the Rain Delays and the other racers on the track, it actually came down to these two drivers in the end racing for 1st and 2nd in the race and the Chase. Who won the race then? It was Tony Stewart with Carl Edwards finishing 2nd. He tied Carl Edwards in the Chase for points total but Stewart was given the tiebreaker winning more races that year, 5 to Edwards' 1. All five of Stewart's wins actually came within the Chase part of the season.

Tony Stewart drives off the winner of the race and as the Sprint Cup champion. It's his third title in the sport as he won it in 2002 and 2005. My goodness it was exciting to read about (I watched the end of that race, knew it was close, and still was bored out of my damn mind). This, of course, ends Jimmie Johnson's 5 year reign over the sport, something that will probably never be equaled again. As for Carl Edwards, so close to winning it all. Led the most laps in this race but that wasn't good enough.

Congratulations, Tony Stewart. There's a new car on top of the Nascar Mountain and it's the #14 car.

P.S. Even in Nascar's most exciting moment I still preferred tennis.

Illegitimate National Title Game Preview: LSU vs. Alabama

Okay, this isn't set in stone but right now it looks like it's going to be this way. This last weekend in College Football saw key upsets in the quest for the Illegitimate National Title Game (INT for this article). #2 Oklahoma State loses a close one in 2 OT to Iowa State, 37-31. Also, the Oregon Ducks lose to USC IN OREGON OF ALL PLACES, 38-35. Meanwhile, LSU destroyed Mississippi, 52-3, and #3 Alabama beat Georgia Southern, 45-21. It seems pretty obvious right now that it's going to be a rematch between LSU and Alabama for the INT.

Okay, now we need a playoff system just to stop the SEC from dominating INT games. Maybe the BCS should think about that while they talk about reorganizing everything. I'm starting the hate the SEC. We might as well just hand over the INT every year to their best team and be done with it. A playoff system, meanwhile, would encourage more talent to spread out to different places seeing that any place in the country could produce a champion. The current bowl shit system favors the SEC. Of course that could change over time but right now the south is still on the rise.

Tragedy Strikes OSU Again

10 years ago, tragedy struck the Oklahoma State Men's basketball team when 10 members of the team and staff were killed in a tragic plane crash. It was a travesty that OSU would never forget and one they would never want to relive. Unfortunately, it seems that lightning has struck twice for OSU. Last night, 4 people died in a plane crash with two of them being Kurt Budke, the head coach of the women's basketball team at OSU, and Miranda Serna, an assistant for the team. The plane went down in Arkansas killing them and former Oklahoma State Senator Olin Branstetter and his wife Paula. Olin was the pilot of the plane. The crash left no survivors.

It is unfortunate when something like this happens once. When it happens twice it seems like the fates are against you. OSU mourned the loss of Budke and Serna and respects were shown at the OSU-Iowa State game that night with a moment of silence given in Ames, Iowa. Budke and Serna will no doubt be missed by their players, their university, and the college sports world.

Tebow Lullabies the Jets to Sleep

Thursday night football came around again and it featured a Mile High match up between the Jets and the Broncos. The big story everyone in Denver is following is Tim Tebow. This game put Tebow against one of the best defenses in the NFL. This was a game that Rex would love to have... back. It was close throughout as the Broncos defense played well like they have recently. A INT turned TD kept the Broncos in the game. Being down by 3 with just under 6 minutes left, Tebow lead the Broncos down field starting from their own 5. Anyone but Tebow should and could be making this drive. Tebow did somehow as he provided most of the yards, including the game winning TD run for 20 yards with 58 seconds left. The Jets were unable to score on the ensuing drive. Broncos win a good one, 17-13.

Not a great statistical game from Tebow but a win is a win. He has been doing that for the Broncos as he is 4-1 as their starting QB this year. It doesn't make sense. He isn't that good statistically or mechanically but he gets the job done. Credit the defense as that keeps the offense within striking range. Tebow, however, has somehow charged this team with his personality. Let's see if this charge can keep the Broncos going through the regular season.

P.S. As for the Jets, man your offense sucks. Defense too, for that matter. YOU CAN'T STOP A RUNNING TEBOW?!?!?!

4th Down Haunts Falcons, Texans Win but Really Lose, Pats Sweep the Jets and More

Week 10 in the NFL was exciting with one game especially having some spice at the end thanks to a questionable decision. The Saints went into Atlanta to face the Falcons and were winning the game by 10 points in the 4th quarter. The Falcons, however, managed to tie it thanks to a TD pass to Tony Gonzalez and then a FG by Matt Bryant as time expired. It was 23 all headed into OT. The Falcons had the ball first and after failing to pick up a first down, the Falcons decided to go for it on 4th down and short on their own 29 yard line. Michael Turner was stuffed and the turnover on downs in favorable field conditions set up the Saints for a game winning FG by John Kasay just 26 yards away. Saints win it, 26-23. A bold call by Falcons head coach, Mike Smith, costs the team greatly.

A big story now going around the NFL stems from the Texans-Buccaneers game. The good news is that the Texans won the game, 37-9, winning their 4th straight and maintaining their AFC South lead. The bad news is that their QB, Matt Schaub, has a fractured foot and is out for the rest of the season. Schaub was injured on a sneak play in the second quarter and only threw 3 more passes. While the Texans are in prime position to get a playoff spot for the first time ever, they will have to do it without Schaub.

As for the rest of the NFL, the Patriots managed to grab first in the AFC East with their win over the Jets, 37-16, and the Bills losing to the Cowboys, 44-7. 329 passing yards and 3 TD passes for Brady with no INTs. That is key for that offense. The Dolphins must really not want Andrew Luck as they win their second game of the year by beating the Redskins, 20-9. I don't get why they don't want Luck. Eagles blow another game late at home losing to the Cardinals of all people, 21-17. Eagles lose to John Skelton (who?) not Kevin Kolb and are now 3-6. No room for error now. Last one I'll mention is the Ravens, who beat the Steelers the week before, lose to the Seahawks, 22-17. Where is the consistency for the Ravens and the run for that matter?

Good Week 10 in the NFL with the NFC North games strangely both being blown outs. Thought those would be closer. Packers are still undefeated at 9-0 after last night's win over the Vikings, 45-7.

49ERS HOLD BACK GIANTS, NOW 8-1!!!

A true test for the 49ers this weekend: the New York Giants. Both teams were having great seasons leading into this game with the Giants making multiple comeback wins and the 49ers winning with defense. One of these two things gave in tonight. It was all FG's until the 3rd quarter when Manning threw a great TD pass to Mario Manningham. Giants took a one point lead into the 4th. The 49ers then made their move. The Niners scored on a TD pass to Vernon Davis to give them a 7 point lead with a two point conversion made by a Michael Crabtree reception. Then the Giants turned it over on a INT and the 49ers scored another TD on a run by Kendall Hunter with just over a minute from the last TD. 49ers up by 14.

Those comeback Giants wouldn't be put away, however. The next drive, Eli Manning threw a TD pass to Hakeem Nicks. Late in the game, the Giants were driving down the field, again, looking for a comeback tie. They even converted a couple of 4th down plays. It was 4th down again for the Giants at the 10 of SF and they needed a couple of yards to keep the drive going with just over a half minute left. Manning passes the ball and Justin Smith of the 49ers bats it down and forces the turnover on downs. Alex Smith just knees it a few times and the 49ers win the game, 27-20, and hold off Manning and the Giants.

The 49ers win a close game thanks to great defense and Alex Smith leading the offense very well. Smith even played well throwing quite a bit. He was 19/30 for 242 passing yards, 1 TD pass, and one INT that shouldn't have been. The team overall played well and are now 8-1 on the season winning their 7th game in a row.

49ers look remarkable and they play the Cardinals next. Don't think it's an easy game, however, as the Cards just beat the Eagles and put a good scare into Baltimore a couple of weeks ago.

Wilson Ramos Found Alive

This whole week has been a bummer and now I glad to hear of at least one miracle. Wilson Ramos, catcher for the Washington Nationals who was abducted from his home in Venezuela on Wednesday, was found alive in a mountainous region in the area and rescued. He was flown out of the region to safety and his 3 captors were arrested. His mom thanked god on national TV and also stated "Thanks to my country, to my neighbors and to my family, who were supporting us."

That's the feel good story of the year. A terrible incident does not end in a worst case scenario. I must commend the local authorities for bringing home safely and I'm sure that Ramos and his family will never forget their efforts. As for the family, I'm sure that they will be overjoyed having their Wilson back home.

The MLB Watercooler

Off season baseball news is always exciting on picturing where players are going to go. Before you do that, though, you might want to sign a manager. 3 teams are looking for new managers and have recently conducted interviews to fill the vacancies. Cubs seem to be looking at Mike Maddux, the pitching coach of the Rangers. He seems like a good candidate for them. His team has at least gotten to the World Series recently. Meanwhile their rivals, the Cardinals, have recently interviewed Ryne Sandberg from the Phillies organization and Jose Oquendo, the third base coach for their own team. Also in the loop is Terry Francona who was already interviewed. Lastly is Francona's old team, the Red Sox, who just interviewed Sandy Alomar Jr. If they want Sandy, they might want to act quick as the Cubs seem to want to interview him next.

There has been some free agent rumors going around. Jose Reyes, the top SS free agent on the market, has met with the Marlins who would like a big signing for the new stadium and new manager, Ozzie Guillen. If they do get Reyes, what will this mean for Hanley Ramirez's future on the team? Another player's future that needs to be settled is Jorge Posada. Posada says he doesn't think he'll be coming back for the Yankees. Looks like a catcher is available but one that is on the definite decline of his career. I can tell you where free agents are not going to go and that is the Dodgers, at least for now. The franchise will not be able to acquire free agents until the team has been sold to a new owner or ownership group. Looks like the Dodgers will have to go dumpster diving to fill some spots when they get new owners.

Interesting news all around but something is missing. Oh yeah, no actual moves have been mentioned in this posting.

P.S. On a serious note, Wilson Ramos of the Nationals has been kidnapped outside his home in Venezuela. Ramos is from Venezuela and is part of one of the local teams, the Aragua Tigers. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

Joe Pa's Tenure Ends in Shame

A little less than two weeks ago, the college football world celebrated Joe Paterno winning his 409th game which broke Eddie Robinson's all time Division I record. He was the winningest coach at the top level. Now, Joe Pa is done and his legacy nearly destroyed.

After the exposure of a major sex abuse scandal at Penn State involving young boys, pressure had been building up to act on those involved. This included Joe Paterno, the head coach of the football program. While Paterno might have done nothing legally wrong, in the eyes of public opinion, it was doing nothing that was wrong. Paterno had apparently been told about Sandusky's acts who then told his superiors about them. Nothing appeared to have happen in order to arrest Sandusky back in 2002. It was the fact that Paterno (among others) failed to do more to quash it back then that has gotten him in trouble now.

The writing was on the wall for Paterno: he had to go. Paterno said yesterday he wanted to finish out the season and then retire but that was not good enough. Yesterday, the board of trustees fired Joe Paterno and the President of the University, Graham Spainer. 46 years as head coach was gone and all that was accomplished, all that was built up meant nothing within just a matter of days.

This firing is justified, I know, but I can't help but feel a bit sorry for Joe Paterno. I know he did wrong by doing nothing and I know that of anyone else who simply stood by and did nothing but I can't help feel some pity that it all had to end this way. One of the greatest coaching careers of all time, maybe even the greatest, ends connected to one of the most shameful things imaginable.

I would like to stress that the university did the right thing and that I don't know all the facts surrounding this decision. I certainly hope Paterno will tell us his side of the events very soon. Whatever the explanation might be, it doesn't make the shame of the past go away.

Unimaginable Abuse at Penn State

One of the most unimaginable things has happened within the context of the sports world. Jerry Sandusky, who was the heir apparent to Penn State football, has been indicted for over 40 counts of sexual abuse with young boys over a 15 year period. Sandusky, though retired when most of these allegations had occured, still maintained a presence on campus and ran a charity program involving young boys from there. It appears Sandusky was sexually abusing boys during this time on campus. Joe Paterno, head coach of the Penn State football program, had apprently found out about the actions of Sandusky through rumor in 2002 and informed his superiors on campus. His superiors had apprently failed to report the incident and even lied about it during a grand jury investiagtion. AD Tim Curley and VP Gary Schultz have resigned after being charged for failing to report the incident and purjery.

As for what is happening with Joe Paterno himself, there is much doubt. It appears that Joe Pa won't be charged with anything as he seems to have done the "legal requirements." Past that, though, there is mystery. Joe Pa was supposed to have had a press conference today just about this Sunday's football game but it was cancelled by the president of the university. Now we here reports that the board of trustees is discussing how to manage Joe Pa's departure. It seems that Joe Paterno might be on the way out but he has said he has had no talks with anyone there about stepping down.

This whole thing is just shocking, to say the least. Penn State football is one of the most prestigious football programs in history because of Joe Paterno and now there is a huge abuse scandal involing one of the most sickening things imaginable that is just tearing it all down. From what I'm hearing, Joe Pa did the minimum but should've done more back then. Maybe he figured he could've gone to the police but what he said would just be hersay. It's at least something to go on for an investigation.

We don't know the whole story yet and we don't know whether to excuse Joe Pa or to crucify him. But we do know who who to attack first and that is the officials who covered it up and Sandusky himself. I have a feeling that this might be the end for Joe Paterno. If it is, it's perhaps the most shameful one ever.

Joe Frazier: 1944-2011

The boxing world lost one of its legends. The former Undisputed Heavyweight Champion, Joe Frazier, passed away yesterday at the age of 67. It seems that Smokin' Joe had a brief battle with liver cancer before passing away. Frazier was sure fire Hall of Fame boxer being big heavyweight champion back when it meant something. He boxed from 1965-1976 with a brief comeback stint in 1981. His career totals were 32-4-1.

In any boxer's career, you are defined by your opponents. Frazier was defined forever more by Muhammad Ali. He was the first man to beat Ali and then he would lose to him twice including the famous "Thrilla in Manila" in 1975. Ali and Frazier's match ups were stuff of legend. Although Ali benefited more from the matches in the long run, Frazier still got a place in history from it as well. To be known as one of Ali's toughest opponents, that's not a bad place in history at all.

Rest in Peace, Smokin' Joe.

Galaxy and Dynamo to Play for the MLS Cup

To those who don't like soccer, suck it up.

The Semifinals were last night in MLS, featuring the best teams fighting for a spot in the MLS Cup Final. The first game featured Sporting Kansas City vs the Houston Dynamo. Houston went into that stadium wanting a win and got it. We had to wait until the second half for some goals but the Dynamo put them up. First Andrew Hainault scored in the 52' and then Carlos Costly sealed the win with a goal in the 87'. Dynamo win, 2-0, and take the Eastern Conference title.

As for the West, Real Salt Lake went into Los Angeles to face the Galaxy. With this possibly being David Beckham's last year in the league, Beckham showed why he would be missed. After a 1-1 1st half, Beckham crossed a nice ball to Mike Magee who headed it in for a go ahead goal. Robbie Keane would later score another for the Galaxy in the 68'. Galaxy beat Real Salt Lake, 3-1, and win the West.

It will be the LA Galaxy vs. the Houston Dynamo for the Cup. The Galaxy will actually play for the MLS Cup in their own home stadium: the Home Depot Center. Game is on November 20th.

Ravens Sweep Steelers Away, Another Giant Comeback Against Pats, Dolphins UnLucky with a Win and More

The highlight game yesterday (in my book anyway) was the second game between the Steelers and the Ravens. One could argue that they haven't even played yet considering how badly the Ravens stomped over the Steelers the first time around. This time, however, was in Pittsburgh which gave the Steelers an edge. This game was also different from the first and was actually the kind of game expected from both teams... more or less. No TD would be scored until the 3rd quarter with a Ray Rice TD run. In the 4th quarter, the Steelers would make their run with a couple of TDs to take the lead. Down by 4, Joe Flacco somehow led the Ravens down field and threw the game winning TD to Torrey Smith (who dropped a TD catch earlier in the drive) with 8 seconds left. Ravens sweep the Steelers, 23-20. Ravens get the win and Joe Flacco gets a career highlight at the end.

Another great comeback was seen in New England between the Giants and the Patriots. It was the first meeting between these two teams since the Super Bowl in 2008. It seemed to go the same way. Being down by 3 points in the 4th quarter, Eli Manning led his team down field and managed to throw the game winning TD pass to Jake Ballard for 1 yard. Brady and the Pats were stunned again by the G-men, this time at home, 24-20. Giants are now 6-2 on the season. Maybe Eli is in the same class as Brady. He's certainly showing it so far.

As for the other games of the week, the Dolphins arguably shoot themselves in the fins as they destroyed Kansas City, 31-3. Good for them in that this is their first win of the year but bad in that this could hurt their chances of drafting Andrew Luck. Let's face it, they are not doing anything this year. The Colts take advantage of Miami's unfortunate win and lose to the Falcons, 31-7. Colts are still winless and are in the driver's seat for Andrew Luck.

As for some good teams, the Packers stay undefeated as they beat the Chargers, 45-38. San Diego stayed in it until the end when Charlie Peprah pick off a pass to end their hopes. Tim Tebow and Willis McGahee lead the Broncos to victory over the Raiders, 38-24, as Denver scored 24 unanswered points to end the game. Tebow and McGahee did most of the work leading the teams' 298 yard rushing efforts. Last one I'll mention is the Jets beating the Bills in Buffalo, 27-11. This win for the Jets has them with the Bills and the Pats tied for the AFC East all at 5-3.

Crazy Sunday, indeed, with Week 9 ending tonight with the Bears vs. the Eagles. Both teams looking to stay alive in the playoff hunt.

49ers Now 7-1 with Win Over Redskins

The 49ers took their team back East for another game. This time they faced the Washington Redskins. Despite starting the season off at 3-1, the Redskins had lost their last 3 in a row. Looked like another team the 49ers could handle and that they did. The defense of the 49ers was great getting 2 fumbles recovered and an INT. Not until the 4th quarter when it was too late did the Redskins score a TD. The 49ers offense was solid for the most part. Not spectacular but didn't make any costly mistakes except for a fumble by Vernon Davis but that led to nothing. Only TD for the red and gold was a Alex Smith TD pass to Bruce Miller for 30 yards near the end of the 1st half. 49ers would win this one, 19-11.

The 49ers win their 6th straight game and are undefeated on the road at 4-0. In fact, all the road games have been going East. Frank Gore sets a nice record, as well. Gore gets his fifth straight 100 yard rushing game with 107 rushing on 19 carries. That is a franchise record. Solid game for Smith going 17/24 with 200 passing yards and the one TD pass. The "don't try and do too much" approach with Smith is working.

49ers are 7-1 for the first 8 games of the year and only need 4 games to claim the division. Every other NFC West team has at least 6 losses already. Don't get too excited just yet. The next game is at home but against the Giants who just had a impressive win over the Patriots. Way to kick off the 2nd half of the year.

P.S. Be sure to the tune into the Sports Khan Radio Show every Thursday at 4 PM on KSUNradio.com... Pretty Good.

LSU Beats Alabama in Tuscaloosa

Been a while since I commented on College Football. Mainly because it's pointless and it's falling out of favor with me. Maybe if they installed a playoff system and let the players have some earnings on the side I wouldn't be so bitter about it.

Anyway, today's big game was a doozy that had illegitimate National Title aspirations on the line. #1 LSU went into Tuscaloosa to face #2 Alabama. That's right, the top two teams in the country with the winner likely to go to the illegitimate National Title game (add playoffs and I'll stop). These two teams were also considered the best defenses in the country. That showed in this game.

Both offenses couldn't solve each other's defenses throughout the game. It was exciting and dull at the same time. No TDs were scored at all. After regulation ended at 6-6, it went into OT. Just like a good defensive game, it was about which offense screwed up more. It turned out to be Alabama. The FG kicking stunk for both Alabama kickers. After an abysmal offensive drive in OT in which they moved backwards, Cade Foster missed his third FG of the game from 52 yards away. With LSU only needing a FG, they just ran the ball quite well and had their kicker, Drew Alleman, kick the game winner from 25 yards out. LSU win's, 9-6.

A true grinder throughout. Anyone who appreciates true defense loved this game. So basically only football analysts loved this game. LSU stays at #1 as a result and seems to have clear path to the illegitimate National Title game. They just need not to screw up and they are in. As for whether it will be Alabama vs. LSU in the illegitimate National Title game, I hope not. No doubt the system will find a way for Alabama to leap frog Boise State even if the Broncos are still undefeated at season's end. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if they have Alabama in front of BSU still in next week's rankings.

Anyway, good game for LSU. You kept it close throughout and then manage to get the win. Great job in the clutch.

P.S. A loss is a loss. GOT THAT, VOTERS!!!

Mayweather v. Pacquiao: Is This Going to Happen or Not?

This question has gripped the boxing world for the last few years. It comes up again due to the fact that Floyd Mayweather Jr's camp has set a date for a new fight (May 5), a place (MGM Grand in Las Vegas), and has said they want the biggest fight possible. The exact quote from Leonard Ellerbe, one of the advisor's to Mayweather, is "We're looking to make the biggest fight possible and everyone knows what that fight is, the little fella."

Meanwhile, the Manny Pacquiao camp doesn't seem to be taking this seriously. Bob Arum who is the CEO for Top Rank, a company that promotes Manny Pacquiao among other boxers, has weighed in on this.

"Listen, we're not going to consider anything until after the Marquez fight," Arum said. "The way they are going about it seems like a bizarre way to go about it. If you want to put it together, you meet, you talk. You don't just come out and say, 'The fight is May 5 at the MGM.' What kind of negotiation is that? So I don't take what they said seriously.

"I think it's Floyd's way of trying to grab a little bit of the spotlight away from Manny. I'm not going to get upset. I take it with a grain of salt." (previous two paragraphs taken from an ESPN article)

So is this ultimate fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao finally going to happen? I think eventually this fight will happen but just not on this date. It could happen on this date and at the same place but it just seems like the Pacquiao camp would like to actually have a say in the matter and not just be challenge to a fight at the monkey bars after school. I hope the fight will happen May 5, 2012 but I don't think the Pacquiao camp will go along with it. We will have to see after Pacquiao's fight with Juan Manuel Marquez next weekend.

Next Up for Bid, the LA Dodgers

This whole season for the Dodgers has been defined mainly by not what the players like Matt Kemp have done for the team but by Frank McCourt, the team's owner, who has been fighting to keep control of the Dodgers from MLB and also fighting to avoid bankruptcy. His fights with MLB have lasted 6 months but it has finally come to an end. Frank McCourt finally waived the white flag. He reached an agreement with MLB to sell the Dodgers, the stadium, and the surrounding real estate. The bidding will apparently be handled by the courts and it seems like the price tag for the team is around the $1 Billion mark.

So, who's buying in this downward economy? Not Mark Cuban. He's been denied by MLB twice before and the price tag seems a bit steep for him. That's all I got. I don't know any investors. It would likely be an investing group. I'm just glad that McCourt finally gave up instead of dragging this out throughout the off season. Not sure how much longer he could've lasted. Anyway, some fine selling points for the Dodger team. A few stars currently embrace the roster with those being Kershaw, Ethier, and Kemp. They've been part of LA since the 1950's so they are well established. A downside is that they have to compete with the Angels for attention. Still, it's an attractive team to own.

No doubt when the team does get sold off, it will be one of the biggest pieces of off season news. Whoever does buy it better like Bud Selig. More importantly, be liked by Bud Selig.
