A Buckeye Bowl Ban? For What, Really?

It looks like the end of the line with the Ohio State gift scan... you know what, this isn't a scandal and quite frankly it's stupid that rules like this exist and that there are punishments handed out for violating them.

Let's dissect this idiotic system, shall we. They put into place a system where a player gets a free education in exchange for them playing ball (or their respective sport) for that university. Attached to it are all these stupid rules basically saying that a player can't as much as sneeze or they will have "violated" the amateur system in place. Meanwhile, the universities make money off of the ticket sales and the memorabilia sales.

Above is the original system. Today the "Student Athlete" still have the same terms in place; free education and they can't sneeze without getting in trouble. The universities, however, make money not only from ticket sales and the memorabilia sales but from large TV deals reached with conferences, advertisements, bowl games, donors, and heaven knows where else. If the "Student Athletes" had a union, they would be considered the worst union in the world.

The "Student Athlete" is being ripped off. They theoretically have less rights than a worker. At least a worker can join a union and try to collectively bargain. "Student Athletes" can't. They are not recognized as a labor force. They are recognized as "Student Athletes" which is really a term that hurts them by painting them as something else besides a worker or part of the labor force. They provide a service to their employer and get compensated for it. THAT IS LABOR!!!

The problem is that the NCAA and the sports world paints them as something other than a labor force when in reality they are a labor force that are being denied a right to unionize and collectively bargain. What's worse is that the players keep buying into this pathetic system and I don't blame them for buying in. They are young adults that are still learning how the world works and are happy to get a free education, which is really just change at this point in time. Unfortunately, in the meantime, they are being ripped off and most of these "Student Athletes" don't see it and most likely will never recognize how much they were truly cheated.
