Andrew Luck was the preseason favorite for the Heisman trophy this season. He was even the favorite for most of the season until November. It was then that one athlete grabbed the attention of all the analysts and kept their attention. Robert Griffin III of Baylor started to shine and had a great season along with his team. They went 9-3, beat Oklahoma on November 19, and went 4-0 in November. 9-3 might not seem great but to Baylor it is as it is their first 9 game winning season in 25 years. The great playing of Griffin paid off last night as he was awarded the 77th Heisman Trophy. The Superman of Baylor was on top of the world.
A great moment for Robert Griffin III and he certainly earned it. He has been great on the field of play and has some impressive stats to prove it. 3998 passing yards, 36 TD passes, 644 rushing yards, and 9 rushing TDs. In the voting department, he got 405 1st place votes and a total of 1687 points which outdoes Andrew Luck by 280. What makes this Heisman winner more impressive is that he is Baylor's first Heisman winner. It's always great to win this award but to be the first winner for your program is truly something special.
Looking in the future, this will probably get Griffin more attention in the draft if he declares for it. For now, congratulations on winning college football's most honored prize. In this situation, Robert Griffin III is Robert Griffin the 1st of Baylor.
P.S. That bad pun had to be attempted at least.
