I thought we had seen the last of Manny Ramirez when he retired last season after failing another drug test. I guess I was wrong. Manny was just being Manny. He is apparently coming out of retirement and playing another season in the bigs. Who signed Manny? The Oakland A's signed Manny to a one year contract worth $500,000. However, Manny still has to serve his suspension. But, instead of the 100 game suspension he was facing last year, he will only serve a 50 game suspension. Can anyone explain that?
Manny is back for more baseball. So what? I don't think he will be effective. He'll likely be 40 when he makes his official return and his production has already gone downhill. The A's have made a lot of weird moves this offseason and this one, possibly with the Cespedes addition next to it, seems to be the weirdest. Manny will bring in a few fans but his popularity has gone down significantly. He's worth $500,000 but not much more.
