Both #1 and #2 Go Down, Irish Now the Top Team?

Just when we thought that the SEC would be out of the National title hunt this year, they are right back in shotgun with Notre Dame in the driver's seat.

This wild weekend among the top 4 teams has taken a very sharp left turn. #1 Kansas State and #2 Oregon needed to win out and they would basically be guaranteed for a National title game. Kansas State went on the road and faced Baylor and could not hold that offense back. A total of 7 TDs scored by Baylor (5 on the ground game) helped them dismantle the top team in the country 52-24.

As for the high powered offense of Oregon, they hit a huge forest with Stanford. The Cardinal came into Eugene and milked the clock for all it's worth holding that Duck offense to 14 points and forcing OT. After the Ducks FG hit the post to miss, Stanford came up and Jordan Williamson hit a 37 yard FG to win the game and upset Oregon 17-14.

As for #3 Notre Dame and #4 Alabama, meet your new National title contenders. The Fighting Irish KO'd Wake Forest 38-0 while the Crimson Tide washed away Western Carolina 49-0. Notre Dame will likely be #1 and Alabama will likely move into the #2 spot. Can these two teams hold out for a illegitimate title game?
