There was no secret who the Redskins wanted to hire even when Jim Zorn was still there. It was made official in the last couple of days as Mike Shanahan was introduced as the Redskins new head coach. Shanahan had won two Superbowls back when he was the Broncos head coach however that was back when John Elway was on the team. Shanahan was also made Vice President of Football operations which gives him a significant influence on who gets on the team. Shanahan's 1st issue he needs to address is whether Jason Campbell is a good enough player to keep as the starting QB. What makes this more difficult is that Campbell's contract is up and he won't have a season or so to properly decide.
Meanwhile in college football, the Iowa Hawkeyes won the Orange Bowl beating the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 24-14. Iowa did a great job competing with that Georgia Tech's Running Game and effectively kept them back near the end. Iowa turned out to have a pretty good year after all even though they didn't win the Big Ten Title. They still won a BCS Bowl Game.
The bowl games are pretty much over except for the BCS Title Game which doesn't even have the word Bowl in it's name. I don't feel enough hype for the title game this time around. Either way, my pick: Texas Wins it All. While I do think that Mark Ingram might be the most dangerous player in this game, Texas has a good defense that can possibly combat Ingram. Texas also can run and throw the ball. Colt McCoy has been showing off both of those abilities lately. It will be close but Texas will prevail.
