Jim Harbaugh Takes the Golden Opportunity

The Jim Harbaugh version of "The Decision" is over. Harbaugh has agreed to become the 49ers head coach at $25 Million for 5 years. Harbaugh recently lead the Stanford Cardinal to an Orange Bowl victory over Virginia Tech with the star Andrew Luck as QB. The team was 1-11 when he arrived and he leaves them a BCS Bowl winner at 12-1. Truly a phenomenal story for any college football coach. Now Harbaugh will start with another bad team; the 49ers. They just finished 6-10, well below expectations of the fan base, the organization, and the media.

As a 49ers fan, why do I feel like this wasn't a good thing? I don't really have a specific reason on why Harbaugh shouldn't be the Head Coach just that he's a college Head Coach. There have been a few College Head Coaches that have gone to coach in the NFL and succeed but most have been a bust. Plus, I remember the Dennis Erickson tenure and that lousy 2-14 season. That hire alone set us back several years. But then again, Jim Harbaugh has played in the NFL and knows what he's getting into. This previous experience gives me some hope but I would've still like to have had a coach that coached in the NFL or was an assistant coach looking for his big break.

While I expect the worst, I wish Jim Harbaugh the best in turning around the 49ers. DON'T SCREW IT UP!!!
