The NFC and AFC Title Games were played today with the winners set to face each other in the Super Bowl in two weeks. The NFC game featured a grudge match between the Packers vs. the Bears in Chicago. Aaron Rodgers was not good for most of the game throwing for 244 yards and 2 INTs. His only TD came in the first quarter by running the ball in. The Packers defense was the story of the day along with the ineffectiveness of the Bears offense. The Bears actually did a bit better when Caleb Hanie went into the game in place of injured Jay Cutler and struggling Todd Collins. But it wasn't enough as a late INT by Sam Shields sealed the victory for Green Bay. Packers defeat their long time rivals, 21-14, and advance to their 5th Super Bowl of all time.
But who will be their opponent in Dallas? The Jets and Steelers settled that debate in the AFC Title game. The Jets started slow and couldn't get any offense going in the first half. A big reason for that was the Steelers hogging the ball with their ground game. The Steelers ran for 166 yards with Rashard Mendenhall leading the way with 121 yards and 1 TD. Meanwhile, the Jets only ran it for 70 yards. The Jets would get going in the second half but would fall short as the Steelers win, 24-19, and advance to their 3rd Super Bowl in 6 years. The "Soon to be Champs" (Jets) are eliminated in the AFC Title game for a second year in a row.
The match up in Dallas is set: The Green Bay Packers will face the Pittsburgh Steelers for the Lombardi Trophy. It's fitting in a way as two of the most successful football teams of all time will now square off in the Super Bowl. The Packers have the most league titles with 12 (3 of those being Super Bowl wins) while the Steelers have the most Super Bowl titles with 6. Its hard to say who the most successful team of all time is considering each franchise has a good case for that title. Either way, it's the first time that these two teams are playing against each other in the Super Bowl. Perhaps the debate of "most successful" will be settled in this game.
P.S. As for who will win it, I'm going with my original pick Super Bowl pick: the Green Bay Packers. I just jinxed it, didn't I?
