Chuck Tanner 1928-2011
Chuck Tanner, the manager of the "We Are Family" 1979 Pirates, has died at the age of 82 in his home due to a long illness. Tanner was always known for his optimism and never giving up which seemed to show when the Pirates came back to win that 1979 World Series after going down 3 games to 1 to the Orioles. Tanner was also a player from 1955-1962 but with little comparative success except for hitting a home run off the first pitch he saw in the Majors. Tanner will always be known for his managerial career with a 1352-1381 record and one World Series Title. Although he was a manager for a few other teams, he will always be remembered as a Pirate Legend.
