A big headline shook the Basketball world today as Jerry Sloan, head coach of the Utah Jazz, resigned in the middle of his 23rd season with the team. Sloan said he felt his time was up with the Jazz and with coaching. Sloan has been with the team since 1983 (first as a scout) but was not the head coach until 1988. He won 1,127 games with the Jazz and a total 1,221 wins as a head coach (part of that with the Bulls). Sloan oversaw the Jazz through highs and lows. He was the coach when Malone and Stockton were on the team and got to the NBA Finals twice only to be beaten by Michael Jordon and the Bulls. He was the longest tenured coach in the NBA (and the NFL, NHL, and MLB for that matter) and now sits on the sidelines to let Tyrone Corbin coach the team for now. Goodbye Jerry Sloan and enjoy your semi-retirement.
P.S. Can't get enough of my maddening rants and analysis? Then start hearing my weekly Internet radio show at KSUNradio.com... Pretty good. I will go over the top stories of the week and even take some calls at 707 664 2623. The Sports Khan goes live on KSUN starting at 2 PM next Thursday.
