Pujols' Deadline has Passed

Baseball is just around the corner and the big preseason story is Albert Pujols. Pujols has been with the Cardinals for 10 years now and is without a doubt the best player in baseball. The story is that this is Pujols' last year on contract with the team and the goal for the Cardinals is to obviously re-sign Pujols to another contract. Pujols had a deadline when to get a new deal done by which was earlier today. A deal was not met and as a result, Pujols has stated he will not talk anymore about a new contract until the end of this season.

There are many ways to look at this story. One perspective is that Pujols looks foolish for setting a deadline in the first place. Another is that the Cardinals look foolish for not being able to extend Pujols' contract before the beginning of his last year. A third thing to consider is that the team might think about trading Pujols if they are having a bad year even though Pujols has the ability to block any trade offer. Lastly, maybe Pujols actually does want to focus %100 on playing baseball rather than talking about new contracts.

My thought is that they will get a deal done sometime this year ultimately with Pujols staying in St. Louis. He's the face of the franchise and they will not let him reach free agency.
