The 2011 US Open has been a bit delayed thanks to the rain but one of the finals has been decided. The Women's Final between Sam Stosur and Serena Williams was played last night and it will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. During the match, Serena yelled loud perhaps too late after she had hit the ball and as a result the point was given to Stosur. She argued with the ump and asked "Aren't you the one who screwed me over last time here? Do you have it out for me? That's totally not cool." She would argue with her throughout the match. Through it all, Stosur beats Serena in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. This is Samantha Stosur's first Grand Slam title.
What is supposed to be a great moment for another player's career turns into another match where Serena lost her cool. Given that she was on probation because of that last aforementioned incident in 2009, Serena can be fined and even suspended from the US Open for next year. I'm not sure this warrants a suspension but it's hard not see some sort of punishment coming for Serena.
Anyway, Congrats to Sam Stosur on winning the 2011 US Open on the women's side. The Men's final is later today featuring Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal.
