Junior Seau: 1969-2012

The NFL lost one of the greats today and far far too soon. Junior Seau, a former linebacker of 20 years, has been found dead in his home. He died of a gunshot wound which is right now being investigated as a suicide. His girlfriend found him unconscious and efforts to save him were unsuccessful. He is survived by his three children. Seau was known as one of the best linebackers in NFL history in which he spent 13 years with the Chargers, 3 with the Dolphins, and 4 with the Patriots. He was 43 years young.

A very sad day for the football world all around. He was one of the best defensive players of all time and is a sure Hall of Famer. Like probably a few others out there, I can't help but speculate whether concussions sustained over his career might've led to this. Dave Duerson committed suicide last year and it has been confirmed that he had a neurodegenerative disease linked to concussions. Seau had concussions himself and I can't help but think that this might be connected. Now it's really early to speculate about this kind of thing considering that his death is still being looked into but if it is confirmed that it was a suicide, I think this comparison will be made again.

This day, however, is not about the cause of death but simply about the man himself. Junior Seau was a fine NFL player and, from what I can tell, a class act as well. He will be missed and remembered forever more.
