Rivera Gets Injured and Weaver's No Hitter

Haven't been able to comment on the happenings in baseball the last couple of days. So some belated rantings. First Jered Weaver of the Angels pitched a no hitter. It came on Wednesday night vs. the Twins in a 9-0 victory at Anaheim. It was the 2nd no hitter thrown within 2 weeks with the other being Phil Humber's perfecto. With this win and achievement, Weaver is now 4-0 on the season with a 1.61 ERA., 45 K's and an impressive .78 WHIP. Of course the no-no brings that WHIP down considerably, doesn't it. Seems to be a rare bright spot for the Angels as they have lost 2 since and are currently 10-17. Also, Albert Pujols hasn't hit a home run yet. Heck, he isn't even batting over .200. I thought the new owners of the Dodgers invested in the wrong thing.

There was also news from the Yankees. Mariano Rivera apparently tore his ACL and meniscus when he was catching fly balls during warmup at Kaufman Stadium yesterday. This effectively ends Rivera's season and leaves the Yankees asking who else will finish games for them this season. Rivera since then has said that he intends to come back saying that he won't go down like this. While I do hate the Yankees, I do not wish an injury to end any career (except A-rod's). Mariano Rivera is the best closer in the history of baseball and someone of that status especially deserves to go out in a better fashion.

Couple of interesting days in MLB. I, meanwhile, can't wait to see Sunday Night Baseball where Bryce Harper will perform on "National" TV. HA HA HA
