FINALLY, KINGS OF THE NHL!!!

The NHL has been unpredictable as of recent memory. All a team really needs to do is just get into the postseason and that team seems to have a realistic chance of winning it all. That was certainly true of the 8th seeded Los Angeles Kings.

On the road to the cup, they had beaten the top seeded Canucks, then the Blues followed by the upstart Coyotes and all the while dominating their series' not giving the other side a chance to breath. This Stanley Cup Finals was no different. They had won the first three games of the series to put the Devils in a sizable hole. The Devils had fought back over the next couple of games to make the series 3-2 but game 6 had to be played in the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

The crowd was there in a raucous cheering frenzy for their Kings as if they were at a Lakers game. The Kings managed to take advantage of a 5 minute major penalty against the Devils in the 1st period and scored 3 goals within that time span. The Kings would then score another with Jeff Carter getting credit in the beginning of the 2nd period. The Devils tried mounting a comeback with a goal late in the 2nd and by pulling their goalie with about 4 minutes left in the game. It did nothing, however, as the Kings managed to score a empty netter and then scored a final nail in the coffin a mere 15 seconds later courtesy of Matt Greene. Kings send the Devils back to hell (or simply called New Jersey) and win game 6 , 6-1, and the series along with it to claim their first Stanley Cup title ever in their 45 year history.

What a blowout to watch. Sure, it was fun seeing all those goals and seeing the crowd continuously taunt Martin Brodeur but this one just seemed one sided from the start. The Kings didn't want the Devils to mount "The Comeback" and made sure they weren't going back to New Jersey. As for the Conn Smythe Trophy, that deservedly goes to Jonathan Quick, the goalie, for his truly fantastic play and great saves near net in the postseason.

LA does get a title after all and in a sport it usually doesn't dominate. Congrats to the Kings for finally living up to your name.
