Matt Cain's Perfect Night by the Bay

Earlier tonight was one hell of a night in San Francisco. The Giants played the Astros in AT&T Park in the second of a three game series and it was a blowout from the beginning. The Giants scored 7 runs in the first three innings and it just didn't seem like it would be much of a game after that.

Then the crowd and everyone at home (including myself) noticed after a few innings that Giants' pitcher, Matt Cain, hadn't allowed a hit or given a walk yet. So we all stayed glued to our seats and Cain and the Giants didn't disappoint. Cain was dominate and he was striking out Astros left and right on his way to history. His outfielders didn't disappoint either with a couple of fine catches by Melky Cabrera and Gregor Blanco. The 9th inning came and he continued the theme. Joaquin Arias field a tricky grounder at third and threw out Jason Castro for the last out of the ballgame. Giants win 10-0 and Matt Cain throws the first Perfect Game in Giants Franchise history.

What a night for the 42,298 people there. Matt Cain puts himself in the record books with his night on the mound. He threw 14 K's in the 22nd Perfect Game in MLB history which is a career high for him and ties the most K's in a Perfect Game since 1900. He threw 125 pitches in this game which was the most ever in a Perfect Game. Cain is also the 2nd pitcher to throw a Perfect Game this season and the fifth to throw a No Hitter this season, 3rd in the month alone.

Matt Cain was simply brilliant tonight along with the rest of the team around him. He proved to the Bay Area and the country that he is the top pitcher in San Francisco. Despite it being a run away offensive performance, Cain was the story and he was Perfect.
