Happy New Year, everyone. How fitting it is for my first post of 2012 be about my home team, the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers entered St. Louis in a fine position indeed. They needed a win to get the #2 seed in the NFC and that was it. The Rams, meanwhile, have only 2 wins for the season and are playing for pride and possibly their head coach.
I must say it came close at the end. As the game wore on, it seemed like an easy 49ers win. Some solid defense with some tricks on offense helped put the 49ers up by 21 in the middle of the 4th quarter. However, some good passes, a fortunate onside kick, and a pass interference call somehow made it a 7 point game with 4:36 left. It came to be close but thanks to a defensive stand near the end, the 49ers prevailed, 34-27.
A magnificent regular season for the 49ers ends in St. Louis with a win. The 49ers, who were 6-10 last season, finish 13-3 and take the #2 seed in the NFC. That means the 49ers get a bye week for the postseason. This 49ers team certainly has exceeded everyone's expectations and have now created a buzz around the Bay Area. I am very excited to see what the team will be able to do in the postseason.
