2011 AL West Preview: Rangers vs. Halos

The AL West finally had the Rangers out in front which later lead to a World Series Berth. That was last year, however, and with Cliff Lee. What about this year?

Likely a tight race for the Angels and the Rangers. The Angels will rely on Dan Haren and Jared Weaver in the pitching department while the bats seemed to have diminished to first year LA Angel Vernon Wells. Rangers, meanwhile, have recovering Brandon Webb (newcomer), Tommy Hunter, and CJ Wilson as their starting pitchers. Hitting for them seems as solid as ever with returning Josh Hamilton, Michael Young, and Nelson Cruz leading the way. I pick the Rangers in the long haul.

As for the A’s and the Mariners, don’t look for them to surprise the Majors. The Mariners are still relying on King Felix to do most of the pitching work while getting no hitting support. As for the A’s, they somehow got the diminished Rich Harden back and they still have Dallas Braden. But other than that, they don’t look much better than the Mariners.

Right now, the Rangers are a hard team to pick against, at least for me. But crazier things have happened in this division.
