After the Butler win over Pittsburgh, speculation began on how long it would take to bring down another #1 seed. Duke seemed to be that target as they faced Michigan. The Wolverines fought back from 15 down and managed to bring it down to the final seconds. However, the Blue Devils would win this one, 73-71. It gives Coach K his 900th win and a trip to the Sweet 16. As for the other #1's, they turned out fine. Ohio State beat George Mason, 98-66, and Kansas defeated Illinois, 73-59.
As for some Cinderella hopefuls, VCU continues to prove it belongs by defeating Purdue quite handily, 94-76. They dominated the paint and the scoreboard for their first trip to the Sweet 16. As for the hyped Notre Dame, they were elminated by Florida State, 71-57. The Seminoles defense did a great job to beat Ben Hansbrough and the Fighting Irish. Arizona would beat Texas, 70-69, thanks to a Derek Williams lay up and one (thanks to a foul) play for the win. UNC does get by Washington, 86-83, and Marquette upsets Syracuse, 66-62.
The First weekend of the Dance is over and the Sweet 16 is on the horizon. The Judges have removed 48 dancers but there are quite a few Cinderellas remaining on the Dancefloor. Can any of them make it to the Final Four?
