Why can't professional athletes just stay retired? Michael Jordan couldn't do it, Brett Favre couldn't do it, Lance Armstrong couldn't do it. And now Tiki Barber has joined that list. Barber, who hasn't played since the 2006 NFL Season, has filed paperwork to come out of retirement. As for his team, it won't be with the Giants in which Tiki has spent his entire 10 year career with.
I don't know if you've heard, Tiki, but there is a labor dilemma currently going on in the NFL. Not exactly the best time to make a comeback. Also, you are 5 years retired. That's a lot of time off. Players with that kind of break usually can't come back, especially in the NFL. Yes, you were a great player but now you are almost 36 years old and running backs have shown that their bodies just can't take it anymore by the early 30's (when you originally retired).
As much as this seems like a bad idea, good luck in your comeback. Try not to break your leg before training camp (if there is one).
