The initial deadline of the of the previously agreed upon CBA was Thursday at midnight. If the deadline had come, the NFLPA would've decertified in order to take their players' cause to the courts under anti-trust laws. However, the deadline did not arrive as they had extended the CBA for 24 hours. Talks continued today and it turns out that both sides agreed to another extension of the current CBA, for one week.
One more week to hashing out disagreements. This sounds like a good thing as they might be close to solving dividing issues. If you're an optimist, it sounds like they could get a new deal done by the end of the next business week. I, however, am a pessimist but to be honest there doesn't seem to be much negative possibilities to this. Maybe that a week isn't enough to settle the matter and that a lockout is inevitable but this extension makes me think that both sides don't want a lockout or the courts involved.
I still doubt a new CBA will be achieved by next weekend but it does seem that both sides will be able to get one by the start of next season.
P.S. Don't forget to listen to the Sports Khan every Thursday at 2 PM on Ksunradio.com... Pretty Good.
