HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!! THE HYPOCRISY OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL KNOWS NO BOUNDS!!!
The NCAA had suspended 5 Ohio State football players, including Terrelle Pryor, for 5 games apiece for receiving improper benefits and selling jerseys and memorabilia. That was back in December of 2010 and the suspensions are to start at the beginning of this upcoming season. The story is not over though as a report came out through Yahoo! Sports that Jim Tressel, the head coach of the Buckeyes, knew of the improper benefits long before the NCAA were alerted of them. As a result, Ohio State has suspended Jim Tressel for 2 games and fined him $250,000. Tressel made an apology (which he had to do) and will have to attend a compliance seminar. And this is just the university as the NCAA will investigate the matter and likely add to the punishment somehow.
This is laughable. The fact that a head coach of a major university has been caught knowing about these infractions and didn't tell the university just adds to the hypocrisy of college football. Now it's not like Tressel encouraged it or even gave them improper benefits (that we know of) but he still violated the so called sacred rules of the "Amateur" sport. This is just another example of wanting to win more than doing the right or responsible thing.
P.S. I still think that college sports in general need to change their rules regarding what players can accept or do. This system is broken all across the country and it just seems like every major team has had some history of improper gifts to players. I can't look at a National Champion anymore without thinking they didn't break some rule in order to get there.
