Today was the end of the NHL 2009-10 regular season. It was also the end for the Rangers this year as their playoff hopes were dashed as they lost to the Flyers 2-1. In fact, they lost in a shootout, 2-1. Their season is over and the Flyers move on instead.
As for the standings and playoffs, the Capitals have the the Presidents' Trophy or the best season record. They have the top spot and they will face the Montreal Canadians in the first round. Meanwhile the Sharks have the top spot in the Western Conference again. They will face the Colorado Avalanche in the first round. Then there is the Penguins (Stanley Cup defenders) in the fourth spot in the East as they will take on the Ottawa Senators.
My picks for the Stanley Cup Championship: I would like to pick the Sharks but they have disappointed me the last few years. I pick the Red Wings and the Capitals. I think Ovechkin and the Caps will finally break through and the Red Wings will somehow prevail again. As for the winner, Detroit.
P.S. I dare the Sharks to prove me wrong this year. I would welcome it with open arms.
