Also added to the free agent drama was wondering if Phil Jackson and Doc Rivers were going to leave. The thought was Doc Rivers was going to spend some time at home while Phil might retire because of health problems. However, neither scenario happened. The Doc will finish his contract obligations through 2011 and Phil will come back for at least another year. Interestingly enough, Phil will try and win his 12th title as coach and if he is successful this coming season, he will have won all 12 with 3-peats dating back to his days with the Bulls and Jordan. Doc Rivers though seems to have a high risk situation returning to Boston what with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen's returns being put into some doubt with free agency.
But who needs who more? While most of it depends on how free agency turns out league wide, the Lakers probably need Phil more. With Phil returning, they have a much better chance of getting the 3-peat than some new coach. He just knows how to coach good players.
