After the US' World Cup exit, there were rumors that Donovan would get transferred from the Galaxy to a European Club like Manchester City. He would've gotten more money and more experience playing in Europe. However, Donovan will not be leaving the US. MLS has stated that they have no intention of transferring Landon Donovan. I was a bit confused myself until I found out that Players in MLS make contracts ultimately with the league. Donovan staying is the best thing for MLS and US Soccer. Donovan is the US' biggest Soccer star and MLS cannot afford to let him go. Keeping the country's biggest soccer star will keep attraction high. Not to mention that it will drive concession sales, especially for Donovan apparel. He is too important to the league to be transferred away.
P.S. Loaned in the off season, no problem. But no transfer.
