Given that many All Star Games are not really conceived as important, the NHL is doing something about theirs. The NHL has announced that they will get rid of the East vs. West match up in favor of two designated captains picking between a group of All Stars picked by the fans. It's basically school yard pick up game if you live in the frozen north. I'll give the NHL an "A" for effort but the move is questionable. Any kid growing up knows the pressure of not being picked last or "taken" last. Everyone knows the athletic and the popular kids go first followed by the average Jacks then lastly, if they have to, the nerds, the ill coordinated, and the fat kids. Why not bring that embarrassing part of life to the professional level. At least we get to see who the dorks are in the NHL.
P.S. Guess which one of the last three kids I was? That's right, all of them.
