In a 19 season span, Brett Favre has played in 297 straight games despite some of them with injury like a broken thumb, a sore arm, or a bad ankle. This amazing run finally came to an end earlier today when Brett Favre was sidelined for the game against the Giants. The Vikings would lose that game, 21-3. Brett Favre has started more games than any real player in NFL History (you heard me, Jeff Feagles). He was the Iron man of the sport and equal to that of Cal Ripken. Favre will now have more tests to see if he can play any of the 3 remaining games.
As for the actual games this week, the Patriots had a scrimmage run on the Chicago Bears beating them, 36-7. Tom Brady threw for 369 yards and 2 TDs in this victory while Cutler threw 152 yards and 2 INTs. The Bears would've been better off making snowmen to play defense. Another blowout happened in San Diego as the Chargers got even with the Chiefs, 31-0. Matt Cassel couldn't play due to an appendectomy and the Chargers took advantage of that gaining 426 total yards compared to the Chiefs getting a total of 67 yards. Then the Saints took out the Rams comfortably, 31-13 (thank you). Drew Brees threw for 221 yards, 3 TDs, and 2 INTs while Bradford threw 231 yards and 2 INTs. Saints are 10-3 and are looking good for a playoff spot.
Some controversy happened in the Dolphins-Jets game when the Jets strength and conditioning coach, Sal Alosi, tripped Nolan Carroll of the Dolphins when Caroll was running in the sideline area. Alosi has apologized for the incident and has been suspended for the rest of the season and fined $25,000 by the Jets. The Jets would lose that game, 10-6. The Sunday Night game featured the Cowboys and the Eagles squaring off in Dallas where the Eagles escaped with a win, 30-27. Vick was held back a bit in this game on the ground with only 16 yards but threw for 270 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 INTs. The Bucs get a win over the Redskins, 17-16, and are now 8-5. The Redskins actually scored the supposed game tying TD with 9 seconds left in regulation but the PAT was no good as Hunter Smith couldn't handle a slightly higher snap from Nick Sundberg. The Ravens would win the Monday Night Game in OT, 34-28, over the Texans. The Texans came back from 28-7 to force OT only to have the Ravens to win it with Josh Wilson returning a INT thrown by Matt Schaub.
Week 14 of the 2010 NFL Season marks the end of the streak by Brett Favre. Perhaps this is the end of the Iron Man altogether.
