The NFL regular season kicked off today with a rematch of the NFC Championship game featuring the Minnesota Vikings and the New Orleans Saints. This was the Saints homecoming after their Super Bowl victory back in February and they were greeted by 70 thousand strong and even a marching band. The Saints marched in strong as they scored a TD on the opening drive thanks to Drew Brees' passing attack and a TD Pass to Devery Henderson. It was a struggle for both sides to move the ball with good defenses and off season rust. Favre did manage to break down the Saints defense near halftime throwing a TD Pass of his own to Visanthe Shiancoe.
While the first half had the Saints playing at a pass happy rate, they slowed things down in the second half and manage to exploit the ground game. It would lead to a TD run by Pierre Thomas that gave the Saints the lead. They wouldn't let it go either as Favre just couldn't click with his receivers in the second half. The Saints would win it, 14-9. Maybe Brett Favre should've come back for training camp as his timing with his WR's seemed to be off. As for Drew Brees and the Saints, they start their Title Defense with a win.
