Week 1 of the NFL came to a close with a double header of Monday Night Football. The New Meadowlands Stadium made it's debut last night when the Giants beat the Panthers. The Jets made their New Meadowlands debut tonight as they faced the Ravens. However, they would not get a win for the home crowd. The story was defense on both sides but more for the Ravens. Baltimore held the Jets to 176 yards and only 6 first downs. The only TD of the game was scored by the Ravens' Willis McGahee on a one yard run in the 2nd quarter. Bad offense was all around but hurt the "soon to be champs" more as the Ravens win, 10-9.
The 2nd game featured the San Diego Chargers facing the Kansas City Chiefs. This rainy game turned out to be a stunner as the Chiefs made some breakaway plays. Jamaal Charles had a 56 yard TD run in the 1st quarter and, just before the end of the 1st half, Dexter McCluster returned a punt 94 Yards for a TD. The Chargers made a minor comeback, however, getting it within 7 thanks to a 59 yard TD pass from Phillip Rivers to Legedu Naanee. The Chargers would get it another shot within the last minute of the game but failed to convert on 4th and Goal as Phillip Rivers threw an incomplete pass intended for Malcom Floyd in the back of the end zone. The Chiefs pull off the win, 21-14 at home.
Nice to end Week 1 with a couple upsets and some more late game drama. Is Week 2 here yet?
P.S. I know the Ravens win over the Jets isn't really a upset. It just that someone needed to take Rex Ryan down a peg.
