Kim Clijsters went into Saturday looking to win the US Open on the Women's side. She had already beaten Venus Williams in the Semifinals to get there and would not be denied by Vera Zvonareva. She would dominate the match beating Zvonareva 6-2, 6-1. Clijsters wins her 2nd straight US Open and her third Grand Slam (all at the US Open). A great day for Clijsters as she gets $2.2 Million total from the combination of winning the tournament and coming in 2nd at the US Open Series, whatever that is.
The Men's side has yet to be resolved. In fact they just played the Semis on Saturday. Novak Djokovic faced Roger Federer for a spot in the final. It was a grueling match as Federer seemed to have the upper hand near the end. Djokovic, however, survived a couple of Match Points for Federer and fought on eventually winning the match, 5-7, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, 7-5. Meanwhile, Rafael Nadal faced Mikhail Youzhny in his Semifinal match. It would prove to be a breeze for him as he won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4. Nadal now advances to his first US Open Final. Both Nadal and Djokovic have never won the US Open.
P.S. It's official, the Age of Federer is over.
