Well, looks like we've found out who the next luckiest a**hole in the world is.
The trial to determine whether Roger Clemens was lying or not in front of congress just began yesterday and already it's over. No, we haven't reached closing arguments. Hell, witnesses only just began to testify. What happened was the case was thrown out and called a mistrial. The judge made this ruling after the prosecution used a video that contained footage of evidence of a statement that was already deemed inadmissible. The Prosecution wanted to call Andy Pettite's wife, Laura, to the stand to back up Pettite's testimony that Clemens said that he used HGH. Laura, however, was not allowed to testify. The footage that set this whole thing off was of Rep. Elijah Cummings who referred to Laura's testimony. After the mistrial was declared, a court date was set for September 2 to determine whether or not there will be a new trial as the issue of Double Jeopardy now comes into play.
Just great. Another Steroid perjury case that goes nowhere. Instead of a grand jury, Clemens "supposedly" lied before congress. Much bigger deal yet pretty much the same result. Clemens is free to go. Sure Barry Bonds was convicted of Obstruction but that's minor. More cheaters get off the hook. Sure, it's not murder like the Casey Anthony trial but it's rich people cheating the system. Clemens is still guilty by far in the court of public opinion and will likely not get into the Hall of Fame but a actual Guilty verdict would've been nice.
P.S. Maybe I should let go. The Steroid Era has "ended" and I guess it's just better to move on but I rather have someone legally punished first. 0-2 so far. We can sink a few million more tax dollars, right?
