This has to be one of the most disappointing nights in the history of baseball. Armando Galarraga of the Detroit Tigers had a perfect game going in the ninth inning with 2 outs against the Cleveland Indians. He was pitching well, his defense was doing well, the ump was not. Jason Donald of the Indians hits a ball to the first baseman forcing Galarraga to cover first. He catches the ball and was about to celebrate when Donald was called safe by First Base Umpire Jim Joyce. The stadium was shocked as replay would later show that he was out. Galarraga would get the next guy out and complete the shut out while being robbed of history.
This has to be the most hated Ump in baseball. Jim Joyce would later say in a sadness "I just cost that kid a Perfect Game." Galarraga was so close to having the 21st perfect game and the third in a month's time. It isn't right to have this taken away because of a missed call. Sure it was a close play but this is history we are talking about. This event has to bring back the issue of Instant Replay in baseball. They could've reversed the call and given the Perfect Game to Galarraga. There has to be change in the way calls are made in baseball in order to preserve the integrity of the game.
P.S. You know what, I DON'T CARE!!! ARMANDO GALARRAGA THREW "THE" PERFECT GAME WITH 28 UP AND 28 DOWN!!!
