Spain came into their game against Chile needing a win fearing that Switzerland would get a win over Honduras at the same time. Chile, meanwhile, feared that if Spain won and Switzerland won by a few goals then they would eliminated. The Games were played and Spain managed to win. Their first goal came in a crazy way when Claudio Bravo, goalie for Chile, tried to clear the ball away from Spanish striker, Fernando Torres. Bravo was well outside the box and made a bad clearance, however, and David Villa (Spanish Striker) managed to kick it into the back of the net from a far distance away to put Spain up 1-0. Andres Iniesta would score the 2nd goal later on thanks to a good pass from David Villa. But, despite being down a man with a red card to Marco Estrada, Rodrigo Miller of Chile would score a goal making it 2-1. It would remain that way for the rest of the game.
Meanwhile, Switzerland provided no threat to Chile's spot as they played a scoreless game against Honduras. The Swiss go home while Chile breaths a sigh of relief. The Group Stage is officially over as Spain and Chile are the last teams to get into the Round of 16. They will have very hard opponents, however, as Chile gets the always dangerous, Brazil, and Spain gets to face their Iberian Peninsula neighbors, Portugal. Do I smell tension along the border?
