After five years of investigation and prosecution, a verdict was reached. Barry Bonds was charged with 4 counts of perjury and 1 count of obstruction of justice at the beginning of the trial. After the prosecution decided to drop one count of perjury, the jury was left to deliberate. Nearly 4 days of deliberation had gone by and at end there was a verdict on one count. Bonds was found guilty on the obstruction of justice charge. As for the counts of perjury, the jury was deadlocked and the judge declared mistrial for all three counts.
So what about jail time?... It's very unlikely?... DAMN IT, WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!! Supposedly millions of dollars has been sunk into this trial and they get only conviction on the obstruction charge? That's a bit embarrassing. Sure, they do make Barry Bonds an example in something but I can't help but think this was all but a waste of time. He was already guilty in the court of the public opinion and now that he's guilty in actual court he's not likely going to go to jail. What was the point?
In a perfect world, the prosecution did the right thing going after a guy that broke the law but in this world it just seems like nothing was accomplished.
P.S. Don't forget to listen to the "Sports Khan Radio Show" every Thursday at 2PM on KSUNradio.com... Pretty Good.
