Back in 2005, the 49ers had the first pick in the NFL Draft. Like many drafts, teams were looking for QB's. The 49ers were one of those teams and heard of a kid name Alex Smith. He had the attributes, the skills, and the quick feet. So the 49ers took him at #1 (not Aaron Rodgers who now has the belt). It was all downhill from there. Smith never really got it going as the 49ers starter. He would put up glimpses of talent but never really sustained it. The 49ers sunk six years into this guy and tens of millions of dollars for nothing. He was never great with pressure and never got us to the playoffs.
The 49ers have now seemingly moved on. The 49ers traded up in the 2nd round of the 2011 NFL Draft and got Colin Kaepernick of the University of Nevada for the 36th overall pick. Finally we have some one else. He's pretty big at 6'4 and 233 lbs. He has a great arm and can move pretty well. Boise State ought to know. True, he has to get used to taking snaps from center but he's not Alex Smith. Sure, he's from the WAC conference which isn't all that great but he's not Alex Smith. And fine, he's got some throwing motion issues but HELL, HE'S NOT ALEX SMITH!!!
