The 2012 MLB Season is around the corner and it's time for me to look at each division and give you my prediction for each one. We start with the AL East.
You can't look at the AL East without first thinking about the collapse of the Red Sox which lead to a new manager and a new GM (what with the old one leaving us). With Bobby Valentine now leading the Sox, they look to come into the season with a new attitude and better results. What killed the team last year were the disastrous start and finish to the season. Look to Sox to learn from this lesson and come out of the gates running. Also look to Carl Crawford to improve or else...
As for the team that swooped us, the Rays, you can't ever seem to count these guys out. They just seem to always be in it. Their starters seem to be in top shape and that makes them a contender alone. Also, when did Carlos Pena go back on the team? The real contender to the nation and my division favorite, unfortunately, are the Yankees. While their offense is a bit overrated, their pitching isn't. The addition of Hiroki Kuroda to CC Sabathia and Ivan Nova makes them not just a division favorite, but, of course, a World Series contender.
What about the Jays and the Orioles? Nice new hats?
P.S. While my gut tells me the Yankees will take the division, I think the Red Sox will claim the Wild Card and push for the division. They are too good to miss the playoffs two seasons in a row.
